A p a rtm e nt in Erla Date: January 2019 About: Client commission Role: Individual Location: Erla, Austria. Program: Private Housing

Project located in Erla, Austria. A small town near the city of Vienna. This apartment was commissioned by a client whose desire is to use the attic from an existing family house just next to the woods. According to the client’s needs, I proposed to locate public areas on the east side of the attic where there are two existing windows. Also, there are the chimney and gas installations coming from the ground floor. I located the kitchen in the same position as the kitchen from downstairs in order to reduce the costs of installations and heating ducts. The client asked for a meditation room beside a guest’s room so as a master bedroom. This meditation room took place next to the kitchen with the possibility to use it as an office room. Also, I created a corridor that distributes the guest room, the bathroom, and the master bedroom. The woman asked for a walking closet in direct connection to the master bedroom, given the existing water and gas ducts, I had to locate the bathroom in the same place as the toilette from downstairs. So the walking closet had to be located after the bathroom. In addition, the proposal aims to open new windows over the ceiling, so that more natural light can come inside. The four existing windows help to provide the attic with natural crossed ventilation. Whereas the proposed materials are heated tile for the floors, plaster walls with white paint finish, wooden ceiling to preserve the heat, and automatic window systems for the proposed windows over the ceiling. The aesthetics I aim to propose are based on the client’s taste with maximizing the reduction of costs parallelly.

Artis t P a v ilion Date: December 2017 About: 1st sem MSc in Architecture AHK Tutor: Tatjana Djordjevic Role: Individual Location: Rembradntpark, Amsterdam. Program: Culture, Public space

The project arises through designing a pavilion inspired by an artist to choose from. I decided to take inspiration from “Kygo”; Dj / electronic music producer from Bergen, Norway. This pavilion aims to explore the emotions that music causes in people. The proposal consists of three volumes with different uses each, all of them connected through a walking path going inside and outside across them, this to make the visitor feel like walking through a Nordic natural landscape inspired by the origins of Kygo. We were offered to choose any spot inside Rembrandpark in Amsterdam, I choose a central part of the lake going all the way through the park. Given its wide-open view and also this spot frames perfectly the post-war buildings on the west side of the park. This spot has a smooth and soft atmosphere capable to provide comfort and relaxation to give place to meditation, reading, listening to music and so on. Therefore I aimed to recreate Kygo’s music path and also a Fjord feeling by fragmenting one pavilion into three connected volumes. The three volumes serve as shelter for visitors and also as a recreational hub where music is the main activity. They can be used as a scenario for a small live concert or set. The first volume is the starting point in Kygo’s career. Which is coming from a cold-weather country and yet producing “tropical house” music. This first volume is meant to host live concerts. The second volume is the transitional one, where visitors can sit down or stand still and admire the surroundings. The third volume represents the highest point on Kygo’s career. Here visitors can experience a very high-quality sound system while relaxing in a warm and calm atmosphere. It has the best views towards nature and also there is a traditional nordic chimney to recreate the “tropical” vibe, which is the main style Kygo produces.

Sc a n d ina v ia n Ce ntre CDM X Date: June 2017 About: Diploma project BA in Arch (5th year) UNAM + Merit Diploma Tutor: Miguel Soto & Efraín López Role: Individual Location: Chapultepec, Mexico City Program: Culture, Public space

Through this project, I aim to create the first multidisciplinary space in Mexico capable to offer strong cultural cooperation between Scandinavian countries and Mexico. It is thought of as a great cultural hub where Mexicans can learn about Scandinavian practices within architecture, urbanism, art and cultural studies among other multidisciplinary activities such as language learning, dance, crafts, etc. The project is located in the only one big water corp in Mexico City, where the biggest cultural offer of the country is placed. Bosque de Chapultepec is a world-class cultural infrastructure that hosts more than 14 museums, art galleries, concert halls, theatres among many other cultural offers for more than 15 million visitors each year. The reason why I choose to emplace the project here, it’s because given the stunning natural landscape and enormous cultural exchange is the ideal place to insert a new cultural ax between Mexico and foreigner countries. The plot in question has 360º views and can impulse the lake’s economy through new cultural activities and outdoor recreation. The Scandinavian Center, is an architectural project, based on the concept of a space in which users interact with a tacit content, a space that seeks to translate part of the content of each exhibition room into the outdoor and public space, it is a project that seeks to give a new usage and landscape preservation thought of the activities that are currently carried out in the lake. Likewise, one of the objectives is to capture the aesthetics and plasticity of contemporary Nordic architecture both on the facades as in the interiors of the center, to unify in an enveloping design the aesthetic, symbolic, socio-cultural context parameters between other from the different Nordic countries, that is, that the design of the exteriors as of the interiors including the re-design of the shore from the lake corresponding to the lot, clearly, express the Nordic architecture adapted to the physical conditions and context of the site, merging subtly with the direct environment that is trees and water. That adapts to the physical-cultural context of the Forest of Chapultepec to create a new axis of cultural exchange between Mexico and the Nordic countries. 24

Lo ge m e nt à M onte ruil Date: June 2015 About: 2nd sem MA in Arch 1 ENSA-PB 4th year (Academic Exchange Paris) Tutor: Pascale Richter & Mathias Romvos Role: (Group): Investigation and site analysis. Contribution to the investigation: Research of the historical background, timeline making. (Individual): Project. Location: Montreuil, Paris. Program: Housing

Located in the Montreuil district, a place with a long history of peach harvest in the ’40s. The project started with the site analysis from a critical point of view, focusing on the history of the place more than the physical conditions. The second phase consisted of elaborate individually on a complex analysis of one housing project. In the third phase, we were asked to think about what is for us an “ Instant of inhabiting”. I decided to recreate and transform the way I used to inhabit my family summer house located in a small city close to Mexico City. We developed a floor plan from the scenario created on this “instant of inhabiting”. The final result of my housing block is composed of two towers with an “L” shape with different heights in order to let the sunlight come inside the plot. The different typologies of apartments analyzed throughout the semester are distributed along with the two towers. The ground floor of both contains services such as laundry, bicycle storage, garbage room, etc. Also, there is a retail space located in the south tower where there is the main road. The distribution of each apartment typology allows the building to be suitable for collective and private housing standards. Finally, the materials used on the project pretend to be transparent and contrasting at the same time with the surrounding buildings, so that the historical background of the site is portrayed on the facades.

Phase 2. Defining the “Instant of Inhabiting” From a chosen memory.

“...Let’s turn this way to look at the other side... What do you think there is? I dunno...” Any time during our stay at the summer house, around the evening, my sister and I have imagined a whole life placed on the garden on the other side of the house. This terrace was the door for us to freedom.

A r t G a l le y in a P ub lic P a rk Date: February 2014 About: 4th sem BA in Arch (3th year) UNAM Tutor: Luis Saravia Role: Individual Location: Prados Coapa, Mexico City. Program: Culture, Public space

Project located in the neighborhood of Prado Coapa in the South of Mexico City. The neighborhood is separated into three sections due to its population density. The rich culture infrastructure of the surroundings gives a potentiality to the area where the project is located. There is rapid economic growth in retail direction, but unfortunately, culture and education have been put aside. This project aims to give back the society the strong cultural roots the area has by giving this emplacement a new meaning and a whole new usage to the locals as well. The Gallery is placed in the 2nd section over a public park. I decided to make a crossing of axes bringing in all directions the culture from some of these close cultural places. In order to provide a contrasting way to discover the art, I have traced the walls according to the existing trees and created both exterior and interior paths with different textures. The materials I proposed for the gallery pretend to be simple and adaptive to the context. So as merging smoothly itself to the green structure of the site. The materials I used are concrete, glass, wood, and steel. Lastly, for the landscape design I took the existing trees over the area as guidelines, the axes I draw follow the position of the trees, and therefore I added different textures for the paths. I added features to the program to the landscape design including a playground, space for outdoor plays and sitting areas. The square design aims to be a playful and rich scenario for visitors and locals where all people can bring together either for just using the park for recreational activities.

Exhibited at Galería Enrique Guerrero General Juan Cano 103 Colonia San Miguel Chapultepec CDMX, México, 11850

In this art project by Sofia Cruz Rocha, I collaborated in different ways from the planning of each piece to its final assembly. My role served as an assistant for the artist along with a team of other assistants. My activities were carried out in the management of obtaining materials as well as their management with the suppliers and different artisans that gave rise to the pieces. I assisted the artist both in the preparation of mixtures, painting, layout, handling of the pieces, assembly of the different parts of the pieces, detailing certain elements as well as finalizing details in their final finishing. Below are the final pieces where at all of them I collaborated with the entire work team as well as with the artist directly and/or remotely since she resides in Vienna. In this project, I used my architectural knowledge to support the artist in the implementation of different materials depending on her resistance, aesthetic qualities as well as durability. In addition, I supported the artist in the logistics of the agenda established days before the inauguration of all the exhibitions presented here. Artist’s Brief: “The mystery of number 3” Series of pieces that invite reflection on the consciousness of being. “Meditation” is a symbol or archetype that represents the typical position of Western meditation. In relation to the materials; on the face of the sitting sculpture there is a mirror because it refers to the inner world and the outside world. The cement, the carpet, the chair are symbols that have to do with metaphysics processes. “Inner Light Expansion” represents the idea that the human body is a shell of the soul, the skin with the cracked finish symbolizes the act of being able to discover what is inside of human beings. The viewers of both pieces reflect themselves through the mirrors, so when people see themselves reflected in the mirror, they invite an introspection of the consciousness of being and therefore understand that all beings are a unit.

X Ta b le Date: August 2019 About: Designs I have made on my own Role: Individual Materials: Black stone, stainless steel, gold plating, glass.

X table has its origins after I made a trip to Copenhagen for the CAFx summer school. I visited plenty of design stores and walked almost the entire city. After my arrival back home in Mexico City, I felt overwhelmed by such clean aesthetics I have been admiring since years ago. Therefore I wanted to transmit what I learned on-site and combine it with materials I have used on my architecture processes. Materials that are very often used in Mexican architecture. This assemble of experiences result in a Scandinavian inspired table made with local materials from Mexico, that be “Cantera Negra. The surface table represents the thick and resistant facade of the piece of furniture. The base of the table aims to be more floating and seductive by using stainless steel circular profiles that go in opposite directions to provide more support and equilibrium to the table itself. The final touch is the connection nodes made out of a denser stainless steel profile and with a gold plating as a finishing layer. To create a small set of houseware, I added a couple of vases with the same aesthetics, they differ from the table because of the glass on them. This represents the contrasting feature from the black stone. Half of the vase is made from black stone and the other half is made from glass. The overall concept relies on playing with contrasting visual weight to produce a very sophisticated aesthetic and also they have resistance properties that made this set of objects functional and visually pleasant.

HarlĂŠ Role: Individual Materials used: 5mm wood sheet, industrial glue, wood veneer, socket, electric cable and light bulb. Exhibited at the Student’s Work final show at the ENSA-PB Gallery : 60 Boulevard de la Villette 75019 Paris (M° Belleville)

The concept of this lighting object comes from choosing a word from a brainstorming we did at the Studio. This brainstorming was about actions humans do when producing something. The purpose of this session at the studio was to get us in context when starting to conceive a design object. After choosing a word, each student had to materialize the word by bringing an object that represents that word. I decided to use the cutting tool cutter. It had to be a quotidian object people use in their daily lives. Afterward, we had to approach such an object through its historical background and meaning. Besides making several sketches to understand its shape, function, and usability. Later on, on the research phase, we added contrasting concepts of the chosen word, to see how many different approaches the design can have behind the process. Logically, the contrasting action of cutting is pasting. So, the design process started to take shape by formulating a broad concept of a single word/action. The reference phase came in, I have chosen an Italian artist to represent the cutting action. I also took inspiration from natural cutting edges, meaning edgy rocks over a lake or icebergs. We started to sketch a defined volumetry of the possible object and also modeling on 3d. Also by building the prototype, we analyzed the liability of the intended materials. I have used a 5mm wood sheet and industrial glue for the main structure, wood veneer for the finishing and put a light bulb with its socket and cable.
