A SPIRE IN SLICES MEMORIAL SANT CHRISTOPH IN MAINZ

- MAINZ Competition entry at TAMANDUA BERLIN The tower of St. Christoph is again to be crowned by a spire in the form of an airy steel structure. The exact geometry of the original construction is resumed in an abstract manner. The design concept is based on the volume of the original tower helmet that was destroyed during World War II, but reinterprets it. This is done by a geometric operation, the juxtaposition of a plurality of imaginary cuts through the volume. This spire has interesting visual characteristics: depending on the viewing angle, it is transparent or solid in different graduations - the effect is similar to that of a classic louvered curtain. The exterior vertical access will be via a light and minimally invasive staircase, which will take up the design principles of the tower helmet. The entire measure is executed in Corten steel with its characteristic red color. On a roof of the visitor platform is initially deliberately omitted. This would only take a lot of effort and would negatively affect the visual transparency of the design.

embedded in the castle, are scattered in the landscape to resemble a molecular structure. The experience of perceiving architecture in harmony with the surrounding trees is promoted by the use of wood and the careful disposition of the architectural elements. The castle is left untouched to preserve its value and enhanced by the design of an arboretum that embellish paths leading to the towers used as viewing points.

RESIDENTIAL BUILDING VIA TUSCOLANA

- ROME The site includes an area of 2200 square meters, located in via Tuscolana. It is an area of intensive development along a main axis, the via Tuscolana, which on one side penetrates the urban fabric of Rome, on the other it leads to the outskirts of the city. Also the railway represents another important axis that cuts the area perpendicular to the Tuscolana and has an importance not irrelevant to the project. Other features of the area that must be taken into consideration for design purposes are the centralities and the guidelines; in this case we focused on the presence of “Piazza re di Roma” and the Via Appia Nuova, which come into contact and influence our project area. It is on the basis of these data that the market value of the residences of the project will be defined, varying from the studio to the loft and thus creating different types of housing in order to propose a wider offer, which, as emerges from the data, will be in line with the current market values on the city of Rome and not necessarily in line with the market value of the properties of the Tuscolana area.

WOODEN KINDERGARTEN

- ROME The

kindergarten

is

structured in three blocks

with a structure of pillars and wooden walls. It presents a fundamental element of distribution: the corridor. This environment allows the easy interaction between inside and outside and the communication with all the environments located on its sides. In general, the areas most frequented by children and of equal use are arranged in the central part. They are symmetrical to each other (services, classrooms, gardens). At the extremes, transit environments are also arranged by adults outside the educators (canteen, spaces:

DESIGN SOLUTIONS FOR THE KING’S ROUTE +

Polycentric structure of Gdansk: most of the districts of the city are autonomous; this involves the lack of a well-defined city center.

DŁUGI TARG PROPOSALS

Historic terraces, beer gardens and stores basements present along the way of the street they represent points of rest and interest both for tourists and for the inhabitants of the area.

- GDANSK Collaboration with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Gdansk in the summer semester class 2016. Długa Str. & Długi Targ have always played an important role in an urban layout of the Main Town in Gdansk. It has always been the main urban space positioned to Motlawa port. The most important public and cultural services have been located here. Prestige of this place has been emphasised by making it a “Kings’ Route”. Didactic aim of the project was to simulate the cooperation and coordination of a large group in a multidisciplinary realistic design process that would require the use of new unconventional methods of analysis and unusual solutions with the participation of the external consultants. Classes were organized on the basis of a laboratory project with an established yet flexible framework. The group was divided into six teams: Architecture, Urban, Heritage, Social, Information and Glue. Each team had a leader selected accordingly to the preferences and skills.

Future investments in the historic city area: shopping centers, residential and cultural buildings.

In the last phase, with the post war reconstruction, the King’s Route presents itself as totally reserved for the pedestrian movement.

Photos of the most important historical buildings and access to the King’s Route.

Points of view and perception of the King’s Route: residential construction presents a constant height.

Data on the participants of the interviews carried out: the users who participated most in the interviews were the people living in the area and the tourists, aged between 20 and 35 years.

Which activity should be intensified? Among the various answers given, the most frequent was the increase in activity cultural and catering services such as bars and pubs.

In general, the people interviewed have a favorable opinion about the Way of the Kings; nevertheless, some of them would not spend all their day in this area.

Analysis of the movement of the pedestrians and times of distance. Staging points: the most common reasons why people stopped were to take photos and take a selfie facing the Neptune, the City Hall or the Hard Rock Cafe; check the menus of the restaurants or buy souvenirs.

LIVING AND WORKING IN POTSDAM KRAMPNITZ

- POTSDAM Competition entry at TAMANDUA BERLIN The most important aim of the design is to continue thinking about the strong basic structure of the barracks and to adapt the requirements of urban planning for living and working. The structure of the barracks, which is based on a court or cluster structure, is being further developed. The clusters are interpreted as open courtyards on one side and are generously dimensioned according to the respective building density. The open side always points in the direction of a green space, either in the north or in the middle towards the central green corridor. In this cluster structure, different building typologies can be realized, denser multi-storey housing construction is concentrated in the design in the district center, row houses and smaller-scale buildings towards the edges. Despite the strict block structure, the development is largely relaxed and thus permeable. The creation of interruptions and jumps in the rhythm of the basic structure creates different urban spaces.

VALORIZATION OF THE PEACE MONUMENT

- BREGNANO The development of the project for the competition of ideas for the enhancement of the Peace Monument located at via Rampoldi Municipal, Cemetery of the City of Bregnano, places its bases on two important factors: the concept of “Peace, at the base of the previous monument and the act of blood donation, act of selflessness and love that deserves far more attention than it receives today. The project has a dual purpose: on the one hand to attract the attention of citizens on the issue of blood donation; on the other, the sense of participation, because the monument will become not only an object to watch but an area where people can sit, read, meditate.

Current situation

The new monument, commissioned by AVIS, depicts half of a heart taken from the concavity of a thick and solid slab of marble in which there is embedded a drop of blood made of Cor-Ten steel. The solidity of the monument goes to mingle with the fluidity of water, on which are supported both the monument itself that the howitzer. The “heaviness of the two elements, merges with the lightness of the water; creating reflections and movements. The two adjoining lakes are a metaphor of the blood donation movement. The use COR-TEN steel, in sharp contrast to the marble path, creates a dynamism that emphasizes the importance of the work as a transition area and reflection.
