Ensemble Ancien
It was gratifying to be able to welcome an audience, in person, to the Chapel of Christ the King on Sunday afternoon, 18 April, for a delightful performance by Ensemble Ancien. The Ensemble features our very own alumna, soprano Emilia Bertolini (2014) along with soprano, Alexandra Toussaint-Jackson and instrumentalists, Donald Nicolson (harpsichord), Nicholas Pollock (theorbo) and Lucy Price (cello).
Ensemble Ancien is a collective of passionate early music specialists devoted to the performance of rare music from the 17th and 18th centuries. Their stylistic interpretations present the true elegance and charm of the early music genre. They present an eclectic range of salon music including pieces by Purcell, Rameau and Handel. The excellent acoustics of the Chapel were perfectly suited to the clarion tones of the soprano duo with the interweaving harmonies of the repertoire. The instrumentalists performed as soloists in their own right as well as providing accompaniment to the singers.
