A new beginning: local business closes one door, opens another By Rachele Odnokon For L-P Specialty Products hey say that when one door closes, another one opens. That saying certainly rings true for one locally owned and operated Regina business. Old Fashion Foods, Regina’s go-to place for all things health, closed the doors to their University Park Drive location on February 11, and opened the doors to their brand new store two days later at 2425 Quance Street East, just across the street from the old store. The new store features a much larger, open-concept design, creating a more inviting and relaxing environment for shoppers to stroll the aisles. As well, colourful, hand-painted murals by local artist Jayde Wizwon Goodon of Eleven Hooks Crew decorate the walls, providing a visual feast for customers from the moment they enter the store. Goodon also painted the mural at the head office store at 501 Victoria Avenue. On Saturday, April 27, the new Quance Street location will officially celebrate the Grand Opening from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Old Fashion Foods would like to invite all their loyal customers and newcomers alike to join in the fun. All of the locations will be participating, with most of the festivities happening at the new location. With all of the excitement of their

Grand Opening, Old Fashion Foods is sure to turn some heads, and hopefully turn in some profits for the Grade 8 students of Hawrylak School, who will be looking after the food on location for this fun-filled event. The students will make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy, selling hot dogs and pop, as well as veggie dogs, gluten-free buns and Zevia drinks for vegetarian, celiac and other healthconscious guests. All of the proceeds will go to their class, making this a perfect opportunity to get out, have a good time, and support your local community. Local business stays true to its roots By Rachele Odnokon For L-P Specialty Products rom its humble roots as a door-to-door milk delivery company to its leading position today as Regina’s mosttrusted and well-known health foods and specialty products store, Old Fashion Foods has always been dedicated to one thing: keeping the community healthy and wellnourished. Originally founded in 1964 as the Best-O-Milk company by Rene Bilodeau and his wife Marilyn Good, the family business soon partnered with the local Dad’s Cookies factory in East Regina, distributing bottles of milk and boxes of cookies straight to delighted Regina residents’ doors. Business was booming, with more and more grocery items being added over time, until ultimately the couple considered opening a retail outlet. Partnering with Good’s mother, Jackie Hoag, and family friend Ron Schroeder, they officially opened their first store on February 16, 1965, and Old Fashion Foods was born. This original location was just next door to where the head office for Old Fashion Foods is located today, at 501 Victoria Avenue in Regina. As the years passed, the grocery store began to evolve, with a growing interest in vitamins, health and nutritional supplements starting to blossom. As well, the customer base and demand was rapidly increasing, as the store’s reputation for top-quality products and friendly customer service was passed by word-of-mouth throughout the city. As a result, more stores were added, and the business quickly expanded to open up locations outside of the city and even outside the province, with franchises opening in both Manitoba and Alberta. Currently, there are five different locations in the city of Regina alone, one in Weyburn, plus three new franchises for a grand total of nine different stores in just under 50 years. When asked if there were any new stores in the works, marketing director Janet Odnokon replied, “At the moment, there are no future plans for expansion. We want to continue to fulfill our mission statement and to be the go-to place for customers’ health and supplement needs. However, we do have franchise opportunities available, so the business can always continue to grow that way.” Eventually, the family business was passed down from the original owners on to the next generation. Sunny Coles, daughter of Bilodeau and Good, along with Kari Waldbauer, daughter of Schroeder, took over the business from their parents in 2005. Since they were children, Coles and Waldbauer have been working in their parents’ store, and the pair continues to own and operate all but one of the seven locations province-wide today. Following in their parents’ footsteps, Coles and Waldbauer share the founding vision that made Old Fashion Foods what it is today. Local business stays true to its roots By Rachele Odnokon For L-P Specialty Products rom its humble roots as a door-to-door milk delivery company to its leading position today as Regina’s mosttrusted and well-known health foods and specialty products store, Old Fashion Foods has always been dedicated to one thing: keeping the community healthy and wellnourished. Originally founded in 1964 as the Best-O-Milk company by Rene Bilodeau and his wife Marilyn Good, the family business soon partnered with the local Dad’s Cookies factory in East Regina, distributing bottles of milk and boxes of cookies straight to delighted Regina residents’ doors. Business was booming, with more and more grocery items being added over time, until ultimately the couple considered opening a retail outlet. Partnering with Good’s mother, Jackie Hoag, and family friend Ron Schroeder, they officially opened their first store on February 16, 1965, and Old Fashion Foods was born. This original location was just next door to where the head office for Old Fashion Foods is located today, at 501 Victoria Avenue in Regina. As the years passed, the grocery store began to evolve, with a growing interest in vitamins, health and nutritional supplements starting to blossom. As well, the customer base and demand was rapidly increasing, as the store’s reputation for top-quality products and friendly customer service was passed by word-of-mouth throughout the city. As a result, more stores were added, and the business quickly expanded to open up locations outside of the city and even outside the province, with franchises opening in both Manitoba and Alberta. Currently, there are five different locations in the city of Regina alone, one in Weyburn, plus three new franchises for a grand total of nine different stores in just under 50 years. When asked if there were any new stores in the works, marketing director Janet Odnokon replied, “At the moment, there are no future plans for expansion. We want to continue to fulfill our mission statement and to be the go-to place for customers’ health and supplement needs. However, we do have franchise opportunities available, so the business can always continue to grow that way.” Eventually, the family business was passed down from the original owners on to the next generation. Sunny Coles, daughter of Bilodeau and Good, along with Kari Waldbauer, daughter of Schroeder, took over the business from their parents in 2005. Since they were children, Coles and Waldbauer have been working in their parents’ store, and the pair continues to own and operate all but one of the seven locations province-wide today. Following in their parents’ footsteps, Coles and Waldbauer share the founding vision that made Old Fashion Foods what it is today.
