Expressing myself through my artwork is a mesmerizing process for me as I get to explore my creativity and learn more about how my imagination unfolds through these processes. As I was able to explore my creativity and talent within different means, the ones that I enjoyed the most were Charcoal and clay. They challenged me but I knew that my goal is to become an architect thus, my determination simply reinforced as I worked in 3D and 2D. It feels far but the journey to what I plan on achieving will always have worth as it shapes me to become the architect I aspire to become. Just like probably many others, I started by drawing and using intensively my imagination to create my different art pieces. It is through this imagination and love for creation that I realized that the ideal work field for me could not be medical or anything else really other than something that required the use of my imagination. Though there are many ways to use one’s creativity, I found out quite unexpectedly that I was gravitating towards architecture and design. I would imagine, just for fun during the long road trips with my family, how I would either rebuild villages or houses we passed by or just create a whole village where there were only empty territories. But as random this may appear, I had a specific pattern that I was unconsciously following and that is a design of more old houses with a pinch of modernity. Everyone has their own taste when it comes to creating and mine was all about older designs. I grew up in Haiti and was usually surrounded by Haitian gingerbread houses whenever I would go out of the capital. I do not know if that is where my attraction for this type of design sprung from but it is certainly where I want my signature style to be referred to. As I am discussing gingerbread houses and other older house designs to be my main inspirations, I could not put aside my keen for detail and my appreciation for other types of architecture as the ones in the Asian world. The complexity in the designs is mesmerizing and how different they display their art is very beautiful. I aspire to raise such feelings in the ones who will one day, contemplate my own artwork. Furthermore, my love for designs that are aesthetically appealing to me will not only serve beauty as I aspire to collaborate with others to recreate the slums in Haiti. It is too heartbreaking for me to watch the way my people are being treated and are treating themselves. I want to be one of the many faces to inspire confidence and growth in Haitians so that our conditions get better. The hardship that this goal of mine portrays inspires me more to reach it because I believe that it is possible to reform the mindset of Haiti and regain our cultural, artistic, and hardworking ways. Architecture does not only exist to appeal but is a means through which talent, love, and care are portrayed and can serve hope. I am proud of all of my artworks so far as they are the stones that are building me to the best creative being that I aspire to become one day. From drawing to painting and from painting to working with 3D materials like paper and clay, I realized that each time I was excited about the challenges. I made sure to never settle for convenient designs because it is through the hard work that I get to learn about how serious I am to reaching my goals and gaining new skills. Furthermore, these artworks are here for when I become a successful architect and proudly look back at the times where I did not let laziness and compliance become part of my process though that is, itself, a work in progress. Conclusively, I practice positivity and excessive goals as quitting would be letting myself down and robbing others of the better life, even small, that my talent can provide.
