Introduction- to the Caledonian Centre Engine McHAYNES explains ‌.. The MGCC Caledonian Centre The MG Car Club, founded in 1930 is the oldest MG car club in the world and within the UK is divided into various geographical areas. As one of the youngest Centres we cover the whole of Scotland and organise over 20 events per year ranging from One Day Tours & Shows to Three & Five Day Tours with lunches, film nights & technical days as well. And if you are into motor sport some of our members race, hillclimb & sprint their cars! No matter the age or model of your MG, it is welcome! We have members owning some of the earliest cars from the 1930s right up to the latest 2018 models and all are able to enjoy our events. As far as possible we try to cover the full country attending shows from the Scottish Borders to the Highlands and with tours in virtually every part including the islands. This year our main show feature is V8 MGs but at all our shows any MG model is welcome so no matter whether you have a recent MG3 or MG TF you will be just as welcome as those with a 1950s car. We usually provide catering facilities and more details of these shows and all our events can be found on our website or on our Facebook page
4 Chapter 1 Events Shows
So don’t let that highly polished MG go to waste .. Have you thought of showing it off at one of the many shows we attend .. We are always looking for cars to take part in our shows and also volunteers to help set up the winning stand ( perhaps ) and dismantle.. the more the merrier .
A few shows we currently attend:Thirlestane Castle 3rd June 2018 Tain 17th June Glamis Castle 7th/8th July Dumfries 12th August Bo’ness 1st /2nd September
Chapter 2 Events Runs
But if you are more into driving your MG rather than polishing it we have a series of one day runs which usually visit somewhere of interest including a stop for eats and drinks. And to mark mid-summer we have an evening run. And of course we still meet up over winter with an “Ain Car Run “ where you can turn up in your normal everyday car, Film Night, Technical Day at Technical Day at Dreadnought Garage and lunches over the ‘quiet season’.
5 Chapter 3 Events Tours
In 2013 we organised the MG European Event of the Year based in Aviemore when over 350 MGs from 24 different countries attended for 5 days of great drives & great fun. As a result the Centre was awarded the Nuffield Gold Trophy by the directors of the MG Car Club.Such is our reputation that there is usually a waiting list to join our Tours.
However we need to plan well ahead and for 2019 our Three Day Tour will be based in Inverness and for a change our 5 day event will be held south of the border in the Lake District. This May we enjoyed 3 Days around the Solway & South West Scotland while our 5 Day Tour in August will be based around Deeside, Braemar & Cairngorms. In 2020 we will be in North Berwick for three days and later have a very special 5 day event. We have teamed up with the Ulster Centre and will run an event known as ‘Celtic Connections’ which will involve a tour of Northern Ireland as well as one in Scotland with a boat trip in between. Of course it goes without saying that generally Scottish roads are uncongested….. the further up the M6 or A1 you come the better it gets. So if you want some fresh air & relaxation with proper roads for your MG join us on …….. A Caledonian Centre Tour.! We can’t guarantee the weather but we can guarantee that you will enjoy yourself!

6 Chapter 5 Competition Hill Climbs - Sprints-PCTs- Track -Auto Solos/Auto Test
If you have a more competitive edge then that can be catered for even with a relatively standard MG. Some of our members take part in various motor sport events including the Bo’ness and Doune Hillclimbs and others in less frantic events such as PCTs or Auto Tests. The MG Car Club through ‘MGs on Track’ also organise track events at many major UK tracks. Whatever your motor sporting needs, the MG Car Club can cater for you!
