utsider’s Magazine is a a product
for creatives, by creatives. This magazine showcases work of the outsider, the person who hasn’t yet “made it.” It is a maazine that gives relatively unknown artists, no matter which art form they associate with, a platform to showcase some of their work, and discuss a bit about themselves and why they do what it is they are doing. Winter is officially here!! I hope all of you have finished your Christmas shopping and are planning on spending the holidays surrounded by the one’s you love. Remember that it isn’t about how much money you spend, but the time spent with those you care about. Make some goals for the new year and stick to them. Travel, do something you’ve been wanting to do but have been holding off forever, go live life and create. -DJACKS

MOLLIE HORVATH SAMANTHA BRAUN JOHN KRAUSE
MOLLIE HORVATH PHOTOGRAPHER BENICIA, CA @MOLLIEHPHOTO
My name is Mollie Rae Horvath. I’m an 18 year-oldw photographer based in Benicia, Caifornia. I was born in San Diego, but I only lived there for 3 years and then I moved to Japan and was there for 3 years then moved to Guam and lived there for 8 years then Washington for 2 years and now California for so far almost 3 years. So I guess I would say I’m from Guam because that’s what’s most familiar and what I consider home. I have such a passion for taking pictures of people and it’s the coolest job in the world. I get to capture people’s happy moments or emotional moments and I think getting to preserve those moments is absolutely amazing. I think that without photography so much of what people know would be so different, if there weren’t pictures to tell the story the world would be hella sad. And I think the same thing applies to just everyday people, since I moved around a lot I really cherish all the moments I’ve captured and that’s why it’s so important to me
@audreydelrae
@bibi_kun_
Next year I see myself being a full time photographer and not just working for people but really pushing myself creatively to be a better photographer and creative in general. My goals for the new year are to explore more and travel more. I need to have constant change and I want to incorporate that ith my photography. I want to force myself out of my comfort zone and see what I’m capable of.
SAMANTHA BRAUN PHOTOGRAPHER ORLANDO, FL @SBRAUNPHOTOS
My name is Samantha Braun. I’m 23 living in Orlando, FL. I don’t consider myself a photographer, only because I don’t ever want to limit myself. I create content for brands and build their social streams. I make some damn cool videos, too. I’m out exploring and experiencing as much as possible to be able to understand and capture people’s most important moments. I cater to anyone and everyone’s creative wishes by presenting ideas they hadn’t imagined. I like to tell a story and connect with those around me. I try to maintain a mix of a go-with-the-flow personality with an entrepreneur’s mindset. Within the next year, I don’t care where I am, as long as I’m 10 steps ahead of where I was this year. I’d love to work with other respectable creators and share my ideas and art with the world. Every single day I make sure to figure out what I’m doing to limit myself and how I can move forward from there on out. I genuinely love what I do.
JOHN KRAUSE MUSICIAN SAN FRANCISCO, CA @AEONFLOWMUSIC PHOTOGRAPHY BY EMMA LI
I am ÆonFlow (John Paul Krause), a 29 year old musician originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. Though, technically from Metairie, a part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. I live in San Francisco, California. I create improvised compositions using a drum machine, bass guitar, and loop pedal. Popular music imposes certain expectations on us, expectations that music must be of a particular form in order for it to appeal to us. This limits music to a subset of what is possible, and limits our perception of beauty. I’m opposed to music being used only as a way to get a message across or influence people, and I see it as an expression of human and cosmic consciousness. By choosing to create improvised, free-form music, allow it to flow freely through myself and express itself as it wishes. I want to set people free by expressing my own freedom. It’s important that we are exposed to different perspectives, different frames of reference, in order for us understand clearly what is imaginable, and the beauty in it. Bass is not necessarily perceived as a beautiful, melodic instrument, and yet I have found no other instrument capable of expressing myself as powerfully and eloquently as bass does. I show people the landscape bass is capable of painting, and present a different perspective on what music is and what it can do for us. time around. I want to do what I love for more than just myself, and include others in my craft. Having people be a bigger part of my work is a priority, and I plan on being more invested in my community.
When I perform for people, what they are hearing is something new, not something from the past or from the future, but something from the now. I create music without the desire to recreate it. I record the music to preserve that moment, though I know any attempt to reproduce it wouldn’t be the same. What I want to bring to people is an experience of myself, and themselves, that is from the very moment we are sharing. Now is all we really have to begin with. Next year I see myself continuing to do what I love with more people and in more places. I hope to experience more of the music and art scene in the Bay Area and play a lot more open mics and shows. I don’t like to think much about the future, as today has enough to think about already. One thing I want for my future is to create more memories worth remembering. My goals for the new year are to refocus on what is important to me and let the past remain in the past. I am again becoming excited and motivated about music, after several years of focusing on other things, and I want to proceed with more mindfulness and patience this time around. I want to do what I love for more than just myself, and include others in my craft. Having people be a bigger part of my work is a priority, and I plan on being more invested in my community.

IEWS LILY KITI EMMA LI
MEET LILY KITI, THE LIFESTYLE/FASHION BLOGGER ALL ABOUT DESIGNING AND CRAFTING TO EXPRESS HER CREATIVITY.
“Nothing is impossible, the world itself says “I’m possible.” - Audrey Hepburn O: Who would you say is your number one fashion inspiration? It changes every month but a woman that is constantly dressed in the most eye catching, confusing, and artistic outfits is Leandra Medine. Leandra is a fashion icon! Whenever I need some inspo I pop onto her instagram and find something that I can mimic but add my own touch to. O: What made you decide to start blogging? Sharing ideas, thoughts, products, etc is inspiring to me. Good words and images. I think that blogging creates more of a personal connection between brand and customer, icon and audience, it gives the people content! It’s easy and interesting. O: Favorite fashion magazine? I like i-D magazine but I’d rather read a blog than a mag so my go to fashion blog is manrepeller.com
O: What are some of your current fashion obsessions? Currently loving the comfortable but still chic vibe. I love a good tracksuit or a velour set (like Juicy Couture 2000’s). Being comfortable is key but making it look high fashion. O: Celebrity crush? Yoon Ambush is my girl crush, I don’t really obsess over or pay attention to the mainstream men in the media, but I love following up on women that are influential, empowering, and straight up BOSSES. O: What are you doing for New Years? I’ll probably end up at a party! I usually spend my New Years Eve and day at my grandparents house watching Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin act like fools up until the ball drops. O: What type of camera do you use? When I am doing projects I use my Canon Rebel T3i with the 50mm lens. When I am on the go I use my iPhone camera.
“I recently just got into heels, I’m all about comfort so heels were never my go to’s but I love how I feel in heels.”
O: Coffee or Tea? Mmmm a very sweet iced coffee or creamy warm latte. I don’t drink coffee often but it’s the go to beverage when I need to stay up late and work work work. O: Favorite food? Sushi! Simple, fresh, and satisfying. My favorite roll is the Fried Philly with eel sauce drizzled on top or on the side. O: Heels? or Boots? I recently just got into heels, I’m all about comfort so heels were never my go to’s but I love how I feel in heels. O: 90s or 80s fashion? 90’s O: Favorite TV show? The Kardashians, oops. O: What is your dream job? Working for a magazine or brand that I look up to, absorb all the techniques that I learn within that business and start my own thing with the knowledge from the previous job(s). O: Name your Top 3 favorite bands. RHYE Sylvan Esso Glass Animals O: Goals for next year? Move out of St. Louis.
O: What makes the perfect outfit? Adding a little touch to the outfit that makes it funky. Like an all black sleek outfit but then adding a shiny silver boot, I love throwing people off. Spice things up a bit, being able to have fun and adding creativity to an outfit. O: Beyoncé or Rihanna? Beyoncé for sure but RiRi’s makeup line changed my life, they are both queens. O: Night owl or morning bird? Night owl! I love the night scene and being out late with fun people doing spontaneous things. O: Favorite Quote? “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible” - Audrey Hepburn O: What is one thing your readers would be surprised to hear? I am Thai, Chinese, and African American! 50/50… When I tell people this they are usually shocked! My mom is the Asian one and my dad is the black one.
EMMA LI, THE BLOGGER BRINGING YOU THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE FOR FASHION AND PHOTOGRAPHY. PHOTOGRAPHY BY HANNAH ANISA @THEROADTOHANNAH
O: Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog? Describe how did you first get into blogging? My name is Emma Li and I’m a fashion blogger and photographer. I’m originally from China and have been in the U.S. for almost 10 years. My blog is called Imaginesville. I started it when I was working part time at a coffee shop in downtown San Francisco. I was amazed by all the unique outfits people wore and decided to document them on my blog. I actually did a cross-country road trip in 2016 to document styles in different cities. I got into portrait photography this year and started to pose in front of the camera to showcase my own style as well. O: Can you tell me some of your strengths that really helped you in blogging? My friends were telling me that the photos I took of people were cool, but the writing I did about these people was what really got them interested. I think people always like a good story. I have read a lot in the past few years, which helps me with writing. I think that reading, writing and being a good storyteller in general are some of my greatest strengths that helped me in blogging.
O: How would you describe your blogging style? I think my voice really comes through as I blog. I usually find a topic that is very interesting or concerning to me and write about that. Sometimes I base my topic on my outfit since I do fashion blogging. I would describe my blogging style as casual, personal and engaging. O: What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog? First, I think you should produce quality content that is relevant to your readers. Don’t write stuff that is only interesting to you, but think about how it would be beneficial or interesting to other people. Second, Produce a lot of quality content consistently. This might be the hardest thing as a blogger and it is what separates an amateur from a professional. If you want to be serious about blogging, you have to be consistent with producing original content. Third, Promote your blog through social media channels and leverage people, organizations and publications you know to put your work out there.
O: What do you think is the best service a blogger can provide to his readers? I think we as bloggers do need to think about what we are set out to do. You should think about what your blog is about and have a mission statement. Then think about topics that are relevant to your mission statement. Ask yourself what kinds of questions your readers might have regarding these topics and write about them. You want to be able to answer questions and be engaging as the same time. O: How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently? As a blogger, it’s important to have a calendar and find out a workflow that is efficient to you. Knowing how often you need to go out on a photo shoot, how many blog posts you want to publish in a week and how often you want to post on social media is essential. Next is to set deadlines for yourself and meet those deadlines. Once you figure out what you need to do, then you can figure out how to find time to meet these requirements.
O: What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog? Promote your blog posts through all your social media channels. Whenever I publish a blog post, I post it on my Facebook page and Instagram story, which drives traffic to my website. O: How do you want to improve yourself in the next year? I want to work on my writing more in the next year. I found great pleasure in writing and telling stories. I would like to expand on this area of my life and see where this can take me. O: What was your greatest failure and what did you learn from that? I think I did a really poor job with Instagram in the past few years. I just wasn’t involved in Instagram in the first couple of years of blogging. When I realized the value in it, it was kind of late. I made some really silly mistakes on Instagram in the beginning, like putting a link in captions. I didn’t know people couldn’t click on it. I wasn’t tagging people I was taking pictures of on the street either. I just wasn’t using Instagram properly. What I learned from this is that I need to keep my eyes open when it comes to social media. I don’t want to miss the next big thing when that happens.
O: Tell me about your proudest achievement? What is your greatest achievement outside of blogging? You mean in life? My proudest achievement is moving to the U.S. I think. Growing up in China, I always have this fascination with American culture. When I was 2nd year in high school, I had this idea of coming to America for college. My family supported my idea and a year later, in 2009, I came to the U.S. Since then so many doors have opened to me. I’m very grateful to be able to come to the U.S and have the life I have now. It’s a dream coming true in many ways. O: Who has impacted you most in blogging and how? I have followed closely a very young blogger named Hannah. Her blog is the road to Hannah. She is a big inspiration of mine because she is only 19 but is very serious about her blog. I have worked with her quite a lot to produce content. We actually teamed up to take photos of each other on a weekly basis. She is very generous in sharing her knowledge in the blogging world with me. O: What do you do in your spare time? I really enjoy reading, mostly nonfiction. I always have two to three books by my side that I’m reading around the same time.
I just finished Atlas Shrugged not too long ago. What a masterpiece! My favorite author is Chuck Palahniuk. His writing style is so explosive, creative and addictive. His works show that imagination is your only limit. I think a good book is the best company people can have. O: What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far? The most challenging moment is really figuring out what I am about and what I want to write about. I have done a lot of soul searching over the years about what I am about and what I want to do. I think I have come very close to it, but it is not 100% narrowed down. O: Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites? To be honest, I don’t really follow many bloggers. (I should probably do.) I do have a few favorite writers though. I can share a few books I have read in the past few years that made pretty big impacts in my life. If you read them, they might just change your life.

DEAR LOVE: Love Theory. What does love look like? Theres a million ways to tell you that I love you … I “like like” you. Hay muchas formas de decir “te amo” Im passionate about you. A million way to describe a feeling that no one has come to fully understand Scholars, MUSICIANS, POETS & English majors have failed us for centuries, Formulating and rearranging letters only TO say the same thing a different way they tried to teach us that love was “Where for art thou Romeo” Or “Tis better toi have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” Or TELL US REAL LOVE IS LIKE the Great Gatsby, THAT REAL LOVE IS TO CHANGE YOURSELF FOR SOMEONE ELSE Or THAT LOVE IS reminisce about how you use to call me on my cell phone.. Late nights wen you need my love. For Centuries, we’ve had fake people tell us what fake love is, Drake was just the first to write a song about. But the wait is over…. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have deciphered the code Ive come up with the greatest theory since Newton and gravity GATHER AROUND! Listen! Maybe no one knows what love looks like….they never actually met you. Maybe They never got to witness the gravitational pull of your glance That only constant, that constantly has my heart in orbit, making me constantly fall for you over and over They never got to feel what its like to lose their breathe from the geometrics that makes up your face, The slope of the bridge of your nose, the circumference of the pool of your eyes, the surface area of the wrinkles in your smile,
the intensity of your diamonds you call teeth. All in perfect alignment with one another, you are my favorite constellation. Maybe They never got to calculate the velocity of how fast we connected. I guess they took it 3.00x10^9 I mean... I guess they took us light Maybe they never got to hear the way you show me everything is going to be alright You tell me Potential Energy = mgh And only you can define how high you can reach. You helped me unlock my potential You make me feel like a super Saiyan I am Goku around you. Or the maybe they never go to measure the magnetic force of your soul that keeps attracting me Maybe They never got to calculate your energy, Because if E = mc^2 Its makes sense that… Everything= must come second. I guess they never had the opportunity to realize the biggest star was in front of them, the whole time. You are the sun in 2017, Love is cliché, I think we need a new word. We should replace them with experiences that gives us butterflies. Like Instead of I love you say I “First Time Listening to Kanye’s Graduation” you I “Last time Listening to Kanye’s Graduation” you I “Moving to the West Coast” you I “sitting in the front of Kingda Ka” you
I “Benign Watching both seasons of insecure together” you I “a child waiting to open my presents on Christmas Day” you I “me trying to hold back my smile as we are walking toward each other” you I “the first time, we netflix’d and chilled and actually netflix’d and chilled” you As long as we love ourselves As long as you love yourself As long as you spread love around yourself I think We should forget what people have been preaching to us about love and just be love. Im passionate about you Hay muchas formas de decir “ te amo” But this is greater than any combination of letters What does love look like? Love is you. Love is Me. Love is all of us. Love taught me that. - Malik Bey @kilam_
