These individuals share their knowledge and both professional and life experiences for no other reason than to help those less experienced, and, in turn, to ultimately help the profession. During the month of March, we asked LP professionals to tell us about mentors who have helped in their careers. In Greek mythology Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca and hero of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, placed his friend Mentor in charge of his son Telemachus when Odysseus left for the Trojan War. When Athena visited Telemachus, she took the disguise of Mentor to hide herself from the suitors of Telemachus’ mother. As Mentor, the goddess encouraged Telemachus to stand up against the suitors and go abroad to find out what happened to his father.
