Elza Jo, 32, photographer “I was born and raised in Amsterdam. Amsterdam really is my city. It’s a strange feeling to even experience a certain chauvinism towards my city. I genuinely find the place where I live now a lot of fun: de Zeedijk. It’s always messy, too noisy, with too many people, too little space, too much alcohol, too much gossip but at the same time everyone knows each other. It’s like a little village in the big city. I enjoy having dinner at Ricardo’s in Odeon. The food is delicious and the dining is a total experience. For late night drinks I recommend San Francisco. However, don’t go there if you’ve had too many already, because the door policy is quite strict.” Elza Jo’s favourites: Dinner – Ricardo’s in Odeon Drinks – San Francisco

Bakers & Roasters, De Bakkerswinkel, Four Leaves, Pompadour, Quartier Putain We at LOST are a carefree sort, but there is one thing we take very, very seriously: coffee. We love to go to places that know the difference between a flat white and a cappuccino, but also that go beyond your average coffee bar. Our selection will please everyone, from the aficionado to the lazy Sunday bruncher.

Drinks
Top–5 Drinks Café Hoppe, Bar Brandstof, Hannekes Boom, Bar Paul, Café Wildschut LOST wants to take you beyond the sad tourist drinking holes on the Leidseplein and show you the vibrant venues that make Amsterdam the great party city that it is. From casual Friday night drinks to the most mind–blowing cocktails you’ll ever have, get ready to hit town!
1
Café Hoppe
Café Hoppe is one of those bars where you feel straight at home. Why, you ask? Well, it’s a combination of the hardest working and nicest bartenders you’ll
Spui 18-20
ever find, a great mix of people inside and fingerlicking
+31 (0)20 420 44 20
good bar snacks. If you need further convincing; Hoppe
bar–hoppe.nl
has been named “Best Bar in the Netherlands” multiple

times, so what are you waiting for?
Drinks
“Old-fashioned good times”
2
Bar Brandstof
Even when it’s raining, there’s at least one person sitting on the terrace of Brandstof. And who can blame them, as it’s one of the best in the whole
Marnixstraat 341
city! On a sunny day it’s packed with the coolest

people enjoying the drinks and the scenery on
bar–brandstof.nl
the corner of the Rozengracht and Marnixstraat.
open: daily
Our tip: try out Brandstof’s crazy good nachos.
Drinks
“See and be seen”
3
Hannekes Boom
Located on the site of a former tollhouse for the harbour (dating back to 1662), Hannekes Boom is definitely one of the most unique venues to have a drink
Dijksgracht 4
in Amsterdam. The vibe at Hannekes Boom is distinctly
+ 31 (0)20 419 98 20
beachy, with lots of driftwood incorporated in the
hannekesboom.nl
decor. Prepare to spend some long summer evenings on
open: daily
their gorgeous terrace overlooking the IJ river.
Drinks
“Beachy vibes”
4
Bar Paul
If you’re looking for a bar with a relaxed and laidback attitude, with a friendly staff to match, look no further than Bar Paul on the Reguliersdwarstraat.
Regulierdwarsstraat 41
The interior is reminding of a “brown bar” that you
+31 (0)6 53 84 53 47
can find all over Amsterdam, but with a modern and

hip twist. On a sunny day their terrace is the place
open: daily
to be, with a cold beer in your hand of course.
Drinks
“Brown bar with a twist”
5
Café Wildschut
Going to Café Wildschut is always a good idea. This massive café on the corner of the Van Baerlestraat and Roelof Hartplein is a mainstay
Roelof Hartplein 1-3
for the people in Amsterdam-South. Despite its
+31 (0)20 676 82 20
size, Wildschut has a very cosy atmosphere, due

to the fact that the interior is warm and inviting

– and because it’s always packed to the brink.
Drinks
“Always a good idea”
