My Educational and Technology Bio and Philosophy: With seven years experience teaching IT and coordinating IT programs, I am committed to technology integration, digital citizenship, and 21st Century instruction. The technology tools that can be applied to education are continually evolving, and in order to stay current and meet the needs of my students, I have obtained a Masters of Educational Technology program, in 2011. At present I am the IT coordinator for the middle and high school; I facilitate technology trainings, budgets, a one-on-one laptop program, an IT assistant, resource management, liaison, and various other duties as determined by the schools administration team. I believe it is critical to implement new technologies that will take students outside the classroom walls, making complex processes accessible and enjoyable, and providing students with holistic technology skills that are transferable across a variety of life experiences. From open source software to Web 2.0 tools, students have many different options to expand and grow in both their educational progress and their wider accomplishments. I believe that students, with the experience and support of technology, can develop higher order thinking skills that will take them through many of the challenges they encounter as they mature. At the core of my pedagogical philosophy is the conviction that, through patience and open-mindedness, educators can use powerful and interesting technology tools to generate positive results in their wider curriculum. I am committed to providing a bridge between our digital native students and their teachers in order to facilitate 21st century skills in educational technology. I use the ISTE NETS standards to guide my design intentions, and focus on the NETS exit skills to help shape my instruction. As the 21st century progresses and mechanization increases, employers are looking more and more to creative individuals who have critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I believe that problem-solving skills are a key attribute in students, enabling their educational growth and improving their future employment opportunities. I have seen that students work better when they have the chance and the ability to exhibit their skill sets to solve problems. I therefore design my lessons around students? Holistic technology needs, and organize my instruction to promote independence and life-long learning.
