In this article, lovers of all that is bright, vibrant and inspiring will find some colorful suggestions for local entertainment that like Dorothy’s transformation from black and white to color in “The Wizard of Oz,” will hopefully introduce first-time visitors and locals alike to a rainbow of art, concerts and festivals in San Antonio.

Madge fans, get ready to express yourself! Blonde ambition is back in the form of PriMadonna, an elite Madonna tribute band based out of Dallas whose musical and vocal skills are second only to the Queen of Pop herself. Undisputed as the best Madonna tribute live band in the U.S. the group will perform a night of the Material Girl’s hits at 8:00pm on June 4. Like their namesake, PriMadonna has goals of global domination and has already begun to garner national attention. So, break out those rosary necklaces, put on your lacy, open finger gloves and "Vogue" to all of Madonna’s hits and accompanying color-clad incarnations in this highly entertaining concert that when the music’s pumping, it will give you new life!

Everywhere you look there is colorful music, colorful clothes, colorful culture. There is even colorful PARTY ON THE RIVER If you thought the vibrant colors of Fiesta were over, think cuisine! But that is for another issue. again! The Alamo Kiwanis Club Charities is inviting the public to its 65th Annual Fiesta Noche del Rio–translated as “party on the river” celebration–that will showcase a cultural cavalcade of artists under the stars of the Arneson Theatre, an outdoor stage venue situated in La Villita on the River Walk, starting at 8:30pm on June 10. As in the past, this year’s event will feature colorful performances of music, dance and song from artists that include Alejandro Antonio and Mariachi Gallos de Oro. Check out the organization’s website to purchase tickets. All proceeds will go to raise money for children’s charities in and around San Antonio through local Kiwanis Club fundraisers that in addition to the annual Fiesta Noche del Rio also includes Clays for Kids and a charity golf tournament.

RHAPSODY IN BLUE

That mysteriously intriguing trio who call themselves the Blue Man Group are bringing their universally appealing brand of music and silent humor to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts for three performances: one at 8:00pm on June 18 and two performances at 2:00pm and 8:00pm on June 19.

AZTEC THEATRE

Alyssa Edwards is unstoppable and her new road show, “Alyssa Edwards: Life, Love and Lashes - Memoirs of a Queen” shows no signs of slowing as it makes its way to the Aztec at 8:00pm on June 4. This smash hit show brought to American audiences direct from London’s West End is a must-see tell-all story that chronicles Alyssa’s life, drag and finding love. From her beginnings in Mesquite, Texas and the global stage to her stint as a season 5 contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and her own Netflix series, “Dancing Queen” and America’s Got Talent (2021), this show has audiences raving!

When it comes to colorful humor, Marlon Wayans (younger sibling of Damon and Keenen Ivory, whose sketch show “In Living Color” stretched the bounds of comedy in the 90s) is no stranger. The film and television star is bringing his colorful, comedic observations to the Aztec Theatre on June 25 with his Microphone Fiend Tour. Wayans hit a career milestone with his highly anticipated first-ever stand-up comedy special “Woke-ish” that premiered on Netflix in February of 2018. He can currently be seen starring in the Netflix movie, “Sextuplets,” and in the upcoming film “On With their signature drumming, colorful moments of creativity and quirky comedy that has garnered them 35 million fans over three decades, audiences will be in awe of this colorful show that features pulsing, original music, custom-made instruments, surprise audience interaction and hilarious absurdity suitable for all ages. FREEDOM AND ART

In honor of Juneteenth, the Eye of the Beholder Art Gallery will host the art exhibit “What Juneteenth Means to Us,” starting at 6:00pm on June 19 at Legacy Park located at 103 West Houston Street. The event, which showcases works from Black artists, is being held in collaboration with the San Antonio African American Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) and will feature an evening of music, art and history celebrating freedom. the biggest and most colorful, the annual Pride Bigger Than Texas Parade may just have the market cornered.

As San Antonio’s official Pride celebration and the largest gay pride night parade in the city, this year’s annual crowd pleaser will kick off at 9:00pm on June 25, with the parade route beginning at Dewey and Main Street and running down to Lexington.

The parade is organized by Pride San Antonio—a local nonprofit that seeks to instill pride, celebrate unity, embrace diversity and recognize the contributions of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community–and will be preceded by a festival at Crockett Park from 11:00am-7:00pm that will include food, entertainment and a health fair. COLORFUL CAPED CRUSADERS COME TO LIFE

Cowabunga, dude! Looks like black, white and silver are not the only colors in Tony Parker’s wardrobe. The legendary San Antonio Spur also owns a colorful collection of larger-than-life comic book characters that he will share with the public as part of a special exhibition at the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) running from June 10 to September 4.

Tony Parker’s Heroes and Villains features an all-star lineup of some of the most popular figures produced by Marvel Comics and DC Comics over the years that is part of the four-time NBA champion’s private pop culture collection.

Visitors will “marvel” at life-size sculptures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Hulk, Star Wars, Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, just to name a few.

More than 40 figures from the best-loved comic book and science and fantasy fiction sagas will be displayed along with related films that also will be offered as part of SAMA’s summer programming. Visit the museum’s website for its hours of operation and admission fees.
