Louis Loizou Dreamer. Entrepreneur. Founding father of Louis Group.
“Crafting unforgettable experiences,” is what the Louis Group has been refining since its inception, over 80 years ago, and Louis Loizou had the undoubtable talent of turning the ordinary, extraordinary.
illustration LUCA DE SALVIA words MELIA TATAKI
A visionary pioneer and bold entrepreneur, known for his innovative spirit and pluck, Louis Loizou’s extraordinary life is an ode to human achievement, passion and persistence.
Born in 1913 in Cyprus, an outpost of the British Empire, a colony that would become a Republic, Louis Loizou comes of age with a dream to see his homeland—a small island with a big history—find its rightful place as a popular destination on the global map.
If the mythical Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, could choose Cyprus to emerge from the sea, then the rest of the world, sooner or later, would also find their way to her beckoning shores.
Where others saw only trees, hills, endless seas, passing clouds and British oppression, Louis Loizou saw opportunity. A rich, glorious terrain percolating with possibility. He saw the allure of sunshine, sweeping sandy beaches, forested mountains and lush flatlands of fruit orchards, crops and vineyards, hot-springs and mines, archaeological treasures and grand Byzantine churches, ancient mosques and abbeys and he longed to bring the island’s beauty to the world’s attention. Looking into the future, he saw Cyprus inundated with people, visitors flocking to admire its cultural and natural wealth; travellers come to marvel at the landscape, sun-lovers escaping the rigours of their own winters, pulled in by the beautiful temperate climate.
Many thought him an improbable eccentric, an unlikely optimist, but the ardour of his tireless campaigning, courageous business moves; his steady growth and quick adoption of new travel trends and developing technologies, along with his determi-
nation and unwavering belief in the future, disproved all scepticism. Not only did Cyprus get the visitors Louis Loizou envisioned, but over the next three decades, tourism became one of the island’s main pillars of wealth, earning him the honorary title of ‘Father of Cypriot Tourism’.
Who would have anticipated that the 1935 purchase of a luxury car, an 8-seater, 8-cylinder, Ford Station Wagon, and the rudimentary beginnings of a first transport company to take Cypriots around the sights and beauty of their own country, would rapidly expand into a flourishing agency spanning all facets of the travel industry. Representing most major airlines, cruise and passenger ships, with a fleet of cars on land and a team of expert guides and agents, Louis Loizou created a bustling network that welcomed people from around the world and facilitated Cypriots in their travels abroad.
Constantly expanding to new areas, by the end of the 1940s Louis Loizou undertakes the management of the coastal resorts and hotels he’s already been sending his clients to. The next inevitable step is ownership which comes with the newly built Louis Hotel in Nicosia and the subsequent acquisitions of Pinewood Valley mountain resort and the prestigious, grande dame of hotels, the Ledra Palace, in the capital’s heart, cementing Louis Hotels as a beacon of hospitality throughout Cyprus and laying the foundations for a portfolio that today encompasses 26 hotels and villas across Cyprus and the Greek isles. In memory of Louis Loizou who taught us to dream, to you we dedicate the first issue of Voya, LOUIS Hotels Exclusive Collection Magazine.

With noteworthy experience, third generation, AUDO partner, architect, Phivos Skroumbelos, guided the reimagination of Valmar Corfu. He shares his thoughts on architecture, renovation projects and his Greek inspirations.
PHIVOS SKROUMBELOS speaks with ELENA PANAYIDES
Impeccably styled and eloquent, Phivos Skroumbelos, Partner architect at AUDO alongside his father, Costis, studied architecture at the Architectural Association, London (2000-2006) and was awarded the AA Prize in 2004. Having worked with pioneer Zaha Hadid on celebrated global projects, he recently designed the new archaeological museums in Chalkida and in Heraklion, Crete, and the re-envisioned Valmar Corfu.
What inspired you to become an architect and how does that inspiration materialise in your work?
First of all, it came as a natural outcome of my background. My father is an architect and his father before him as well. I grew up in the architectural practice and within its principles. So, I was shaped by the realities and the everyday life of architecture. Aside from that, I’ve always had the vision of bringing together a multitude of disciplines, so, in this sense, from my point of view, architecture with its universality is the ideal métier to achieve that.
What was the most inspiring feature of the Valmar project?
And what was the most challenging aspect?
For us the breathtaking view and the surrounding landscape was an inexhaustible source of inspiration. On the other hand, having such a continuous, elongated volume with close proximity to the sea instigated extra caution and diligence in order to lighten its perception. We faced the challenges of unifying this complex of buildings under a common architectural language.
Are there historic and cultural elements of Greece and especially the islands that feature in your designs?
This research concerning the historic and cultural background of every project constitutes a basic element of our design approach. Locality is a major factor, the impact of which doesn’t cease after the preliminary design phase, on the contrary, it extends and influences every stage of our architecture. It’s an interesting challenge to convey the specific, local elements: weather, construction methods, materials, colours, ways of life, in general, to today’s international array of people visiting Greece, while still reflecting on the local population’s needs. This background research runs through the entire corpus of our work, but it can be intensely found both in our museum studies and in our hospitality projects, because these two typologies allow for a vivid and creative utilisation of the historical and cultural heritage, findings, narrations and artefacts.
The retro feeling of the hotel holds a charm and sense of awe from the past. Your design work seems to be inspired by this retro feel but is simultaneously contemporary. How did you achieve that symbiosis?
It’s true that we often opt for some retro references or details. These details can be found in material and colour combinations, surface coatings, decorative pieces, lighting fixtures, but never on all these design aspects simultaneously. We gradually evoke past memories and a sense of familiarity and intimacy, while gently carving a contemporary environment, minimalistic, yet warm. The pairing of techniques, open-plan design, new methods and materials, with a touch of past references, accomplishes what we want to believe as a harmonious plurality. We wish to create spaces that allow for flares of imagination, for an unobstructed dialogue with the cultural background, for an immersive experience where the senses can be accentuated.
What advice do you have for aspiring architects?
I would like to refer to a book to answer that. In the ‘Manifesto for a Cinematic Architecture’, Pascal Schöning, whom I had the delightful experience to meet during my studies at the Architectural Association in the early-mid 2000s, argues for an architecture that transforms solid material into the appearance of energy and spatiality. He states that our basic material is light through which every form is energised by the person who occupies it. So, my tip would be, ‘go make a film and reveal the senses, show the light.’
You can only save 5 buildings around the world; which ones are they?
The spaces which I’d keep mostly ignite thoughts and theoretical debates around the fundamental principles of architecture. They pose questions around elementary concepts, or around the very nature of built things and deal less with questions of form or shape. Therefore, the works that come to my mind include, Rem Koolhaas’ and Elias Zenghelis’ drawings, the ‘Barcelona Pavilion’ by Mies van der Rohe, the ‘Zurich Pavilion’ by Le Corbusier, ‘Opus’ by Zaha Hadid or even the very concept of the primitive hut, the first protected space of human dwelling. An article on Valmar Corfu can be found on page 44.
We wish to create spaces that allow for flares of imagination, for an unobstructed dialogue with the cultural background, for an immersive experience where the senses can be accentuated.

We embrace the world around us and are continually staying informed and participating in global gatherings and forums regarding our industry. I personally am regularly on the road, absorbing the hospitality experiences in resorts in every corner of the globe and interacting with travellers and travel professionals. My wanderlust and curiosity allow me to bring back many lessons to the table and with my colleagues our intention is to advance, learn and develop consistently and with passion.
Where do you see the Greek islands heading? Mass tourism, or as a more exclusive destinations?
Greece continues to advance and grow its tourism offering and will undeniably entice more and more visitors to fall in love with its multitude of charms and stunning locations.
The intention of our Exclusive Collection is to create lifestyle hotels and experiences with decadently spacious rooms and suites, impeccable hospitality and style, lavish gastronomy, stellar pampering and wellbeing experiences that provide guests with intimate connections to the exceptional Greek islands and inspirational local culture.

Antonis Paraskakis, the Chef de Cuisine at Asterion hotel’s 35° restaurant, has forged a deliciously unique culinary journey and identity from his many years of experience at some of Greece’s finest hotels and restaurants.
Enthused and inspired by his childhood in Crete, Chef Paraskakis first foodie memory is of his grandmother baking bread and traditional pies in their wood burning oven in Vlaheronitissa village, Chania. At 16, he entered the kitchen alone and prepared his first marathopita (traditional phyllo pie filled with fennel) “thus entering the world of cooking with all its magic and mystery.”
Chef Paraskakis key inspiration for Asterion’s Cretan, à la carte Restaurant 35° is “to entice visitors to fall in love with Cretan cuisine and its many health benefits and spread the word globally, making it a way of life for them.” The chef, whose passion and purpose for his island’s culture, heritage and tradition can be tasted in every bite of the 35° menu, speaks of his favourite dish being the “Cretan dakos (a slice of soaked barley rusk topped with chopped tomatoes, crumbled feta or mizithra cheese, flavoured with wild herbs such as oregano.) A person can survive on this dish alone, as it incorporates all the beneficial ingredients that the body requires.”
When dreaming up his ideal, emblematic of Crete, dinner menu and guest list, Chef Paraskakis enthuses with traditional dishes and historical figures, “My first dish would be kakavia (Greek fish soup cooked in the kakavi tripod pot used by ancient Ionian fishermen.) Then I’d serve a Cretan salad, followed by sea bass fillet with wild Cretan greens and herbs. For dessert, Cretan xerotigana, fried dough strips with thyme honey and walnuts. My guests would be Greek historical figures: Eleftherios Venizelos, Ioannis Kapodistrias, Nikos Kazantzakis, and Kostis Palamas."

Elena Panayides discusses with architects Katerina Vordoni, Fania Sinaniotis, Katerina Synodinoy, and Martha Georgiou Richter about the revival of an architectural icon and the transformation of Theoxenia - a sanctuary for the contemporary traveller and nature lover.
VOIS ARCHITECTS speak with ELENA PANAYIDES
Conversing with VOIS team about their daring renovation and reimagining of the iconic Mykonos Theoxenia the powerhouse architects noted about their discipline, “Architecture is a broad subject where scale typology varies, yet it always requires a holistic approach. It involves creative vision, yet technical application. Creating a space, a house, a social building is creating experiences, memories and leaving a footprint in time. A product where time leaves its trace and where people refer and associate with it. We believe architecture is a platform where tools and methods of communication, psychology, and social aspects are to be interpreted and transformed into a creative amalgam.”
Their design at Mykonos Theoxenia and its grounds blends seamlessly with its surroundings as for them, “Greece and specifically the Cycladic islands, give us great inspiration, and they become our tools and methodology for our design. Looking into the Cycladic architecture we learn from its scale, the volumes, the composition of the traditional “chora” as a cluster, the small, yet well thought out, Cycladic farmhouses that are sustainable and organic developments.” With their clean lines, bright, airy spaces, natural palette which offset with the building’s original stone and marble elements, VOIS was heavily inspired by the visionary, post-modern architect Aris Konstantinidis’ original design and philosophy. “Renovating a building of Aris Konstantinidis, that is a heritage building, not only for Mykonos but for all of Greece, was definitely a challenge for us. This architecture has always been for our practice, a landmark, a methodology, and definitely a point of reference. We studied the amazing book by Aris Konstantinidis “Ta Theoktista” which explains the importance of the landscape and of Greek architecture built by ‘anonymous’ people, real people close to their land – topos, and its true needs. Materiality is also a great part of what we explore, Greece and its natural gems, marble and stone, are applied in different scales and treated with different finishes featuring in our designs.”
When working on the extraordinary Mykonos Theoxenia, the VOIS team felt that, “Hospitality requires function-
ality and practicality, combined with a strong design concept, to transport the guest with a new experience. We engaged and embraced the simplicity by working thoroughly on the layout of the bedrooms, rearranging the bathrooms and creating moments of experience by adding pools, creating secret mini-bars, and allowing the guest to feel the texture of the Greek marble in different scales. We navigated through the building and its challenges by respecting, and by underlining its values, reusing the materials, emphasising the colour blue and its Greekness, by combining it with a light addition of terracotta, as well as introducing nonornamental decoration, custom-made, and reclaimed items.
The Mykonos Theoxenia sits on the edge of the coastline overlooking the blue sea. Its simplicity, the small openings, its linear facade are different but harmonious and in dialogue with the Cycladic architecture as core elements for the project. We had to respect the rules of the building and balance its simplicity with the needs of the project for an upscale hotel where guests would sense the history of the building yet feel comfortable, hospitable and relaxed. The most inspiring feature of this project is actually the building itself and revisiting it as a luxury hotel. The challenge was to retain its era and at the same time update it in terms of functionality. We worked closely with the interior design team ‘Cosmosanima’ and the communication team of Alexandra Mercuri ‘AM Studio Paris.’ It was a holistic approach in order to create a new brand which could co-exist with the modernis architecture and the slow ambience yet quickly developing Mykonos.”
The creatives of VOIS also expressed that, “Simplicity, Greekness, and a non-ornamented decoration approach was our key methodology. We wanted the luxury to be expressed through the airy spaces, the view, the memory of the past and the fact that the hotel is surrounded by a vast garden allowing the guests to find themselves in a remote environment within the busy Chora (town) of Mykonos.”
Immersing myself in the Greek island culture took me both back in time to the ancient philosophies of life and forward, thanks to the locals proudly sharing their land in both traditional and elegantly fabulous contemporary style.
Bon vivant and experience curator, Charalambos Lardas, as the General Manager of Sales and Marketing, is at the helm of spreading the word about the exciting new venture for Louis Hotels, the development and launch of the Exclusive Collection.
What was the vision of the Louis Group founder, Louis Loizou, considered to be the father of tourism in Cyprus?
He was undeniably an innovator and visionary, who, as early as the 1930s, had the foresight and ultimate goal of putting Cyprus on the global tourism map. Mr. Loizou was a businessman who never wavered from his mission, from his first steps of creating the ‘Adelfotis’ transport company, to expanding into an excursion operator within Cyprus, promoting the new idea of internal tourism with his Louis Tourist agency which was the first time ‘tourism’ as a concept and word was used in a Cyprus trademark, to great innovations in hotels, excursions and global travel marketing. He was a pioneer and his legacy lives on in the Louis travel footprint that is globally recognised and followed.
Can you tell us about the company’s new Exclusive Collection and what makes this project unique?
Effortless luxury, tailored services, an intimate atmosphere, distinguished style, and respectful focus on local experiences are what makes this project unique. We are all extremely excited for this new collection of hotels which is currently under expansion in Greece, offering five-star, unique properties with distinct locations, architecture and style.
What do you believe sets the Exclusive Collection apart?
We never lose sight of our vision to authentically celebrate our hotel locations, unique culture, and warm hospitality with a sense of modern sophistication. We warmly embrace our guests in Mykonos, Corfu, Crete, and Zakynthos and immerse them in the ultimate sense of wellbeing which derives from excellent, personalised service, delectable local food experiences, one of a kind wellbeing therapies and sessions. With an attention to detail and service, we create sanctuaries of inspiration and relaxation.
What role do your staff play in the success of your hotels? They are the most essential and fundamental players. A place is its people and over the years we’ve built an incre-
dible family of team members that have dedication, care and consideration as their mantra. Every staff member takes great pride in providing impeccable service and experiences and nurturing growth and success for one and all.
What are your properties' culinary, wellbeing, and lifestyle plans for the near future?
We have sought out ingenious chefs that showcase Greece’s culinary traditions, history and legacy with a contemporary, sophisticated twist. Our signature restaurants cultivate the farm to table concept and receive their inspiration from the local, characteristic and organic ingredients that transmute the essence of Greece. There are amazing health benefits to the Mediterranean, Peruvian, Asian and Levantine cuisines we fuse together. Guests' lifestyles and unique needs are also factored in before crafting the customised wellness experiences. Our wellbeing programs at the Exclusive Collection hotels include sound healing, kundalini and yin yoga, as well as Ayurvedic healing. We take our guests on a journey of the senses, in beautifully designed spaces with stimulating aromas, relaxing sounds, experienced practitioners, and a blend of ancient and contemporary knowhow to raise your consciousness.
Where is your ideal travel destination and what is your definition of authentic travel and true relaxation?
I recently returned from Mykonos and was mesmerised by the vividness and liveliness of the island. Its people, sounds, landscapes, and colours transfixed me, as everything felt so much more alive and intense, in a great way. Immersing myself in the Greek island culture took me both back in time to an ancient culture and forward to a people with genuine hospitality and care in their hearts, proudly sharing their land in both a traditional and elegantly fabulous contemporary style.

Aris Konstantinidis
Architect. Lecturer. Writer.
The trailblazer of Greek architectural modernism, Konstantinidis' iconic buildings around Greece helped expand the country’s tourism industry and position it firmly in the international travel scene.
illustration LUCA DE SALVIA words ELENA
“I believe in dreams, not fantasy,” characterised the life and work of famed architect, Aris Konstantinidis, (1913-1993). Heralded as the father of Greek architectural modernism, his iconic buildings expanded the vision of his motherland’s hoteling and hospitality. An incomparable architect that composed his visual poetry with stone, wood, metal and concrete.
In the late 1950s, the architect was appointed head of the Workers Housing Organisation at the Greek National Tourism Organization. From 1957 to 1967 at the GNTO’s Technical Service he oversaw the construction of one of Greece’s largest infrastructure schemes, a series of hotels around the country called “Xenia.” Konstantinidis, along with a team of other modernist architects, designed cutting-edge hotels in breathtaking locations such as Mykonos, Andros, Chalkidiki, Kalabaka, and Olympia for the following seventeen years.
A man for all seasons, he also taught at the Zurich Polytechnic as a visiting professor and in 1978 received an honorary doctorate from the University of Thessaloniki. In later years he was appointed as corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich.
Through his work, Aris Konstantinidis created architectural solutions unique to Greece and in his final book titled “Ta Theoktista” (“God-built”), the architect noted his belief that anonymous architecture, as well as the landscape of Greece itself, constituted the foundations on which modern architectural practice could and should be grounded.
In 1960 his architectural dream evolves. Mykonos Theoxenia breaks ground. A harmonious beauty influenced by the Bauhaus movement, Konstantinidis considered the form of a building of equal importance to its function. The property effortlessly embraces Greece’s native architectural traditions
and includes elements of the country’s stunning landscape. With his life’s work, Konstantinidis crafted a new modernist style, unique to Greece. A homage to the beauty of simplicity. The Mykonos Theoxenia had a vision: to establish the example of contemporary hospitality on the cosmopolitan island and elevate architectural standards and premium servicesa Greek hospitality renaissance.
The hotel reflects the purity of traditional Cycladic architecture and the stone craftsmanship of one of the greatest Greek architects. It remains soulfully connected to its Cycladic environs, rising from the sea walls, incorporating the same stone for its construction. Theoxenia created a visual dialogue between history, heritage, location and modernism.
A vision of structural logic without any embellishment, the property nods towards the light and spirit of the mystical isle of Delos. Respecting humanity, nature, and its environment, it remains even today timeless and contemporary. Eternal in terms of its artistic identity. Elegant and sophisticated, Mykonos Theoxenia, with its unparalleled location next to the windmills in Chora, with its singular design, became the island’s first five-star hotel and was later designated by the Greek Ministry of Culture a heritage landmark building.
This architectural gem, a Member of Design Hotels, recently passed the baton to the creatives at VOIS Architects. Theoxenia’s openness, abundance of natural light, and wide views are enhanced in a dialogue with the Myconian unspoiled environment, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, the soft with the strong. A juxtaposition of grace, integrity and ultimate style. The vision remains essential. Effortless. Encompassing. Exhilarating.
Mykonos Theoxenia, a member of Design Hotels, the building that broke all norms for being ahead of its time.
The Founder of SP Architect & Partners has designed some of the most renowned hotels in Greece, most recently undertaking the reimagining of the monumental King Jason Zante.
STAVROS PEPPAS speaks with ELENA PANAYIDES
How do you balance functionality and practicality with aesthetic beauty in your hotel design of King Jason Zante? This is the biggest challenge that we always come across while designing a hotel. To face this challenge, the architect must be equipped with multiple capabilities, imagination, technical training, experience and dedication to the final objective of the project. The direct connection of all common areas and private rooms with the water elements, the pools, and the natural environment is both the most inspiring and challenging feature. The location of the hotel is stunning, with an olive grove on a hillside and an unlimited view of the sea. This is an ideal area for a project like this and influenced my considerations from the beginning.
How does the motto ‘The Art of Slow Living’ incorporate into your design of the property in Zakynthos?
I absolutely believe that the spaces we create also determine the behaviour of those who will experience and live in them. In other words, given that the concept of the tourist product we create is slow living, this will be the direction that visitors will be led towards. For this reason, in our projects, we undertake the designing process from the very early stages, the general concept of the project, to the last and smallest details of it.
Are there historic and cultural elements of Greece and especially the islands that feature in your designs?
In the islands and, in general, in Greece as a whole, the historical and traditional elements are quite different from one location to another. This is also reflected in the architecture, thus creating a very beautiful variety. I feel very lucky to be able to work simultaneously in different areas of Greece, all equally beautiful, but with different elements that I always try to integrate with one other.
What was the greatest lesson from one of your past projects? Each project is a new lesson for me. “I grow old while learning” (“γηράσκω
as our ancestors used to say, that is, as we mature we never stop learning and evolving.

When it comes to lifestyle, Corfu pulsates with a vivacious social energy, buzzing with music festivals, jazz ensembles, theatre, museums, art exhibitions and galleries.
Anchored in the heart of the Ionian Sea, the island of Corfu has long been a destination for travellers seeking a slice of Mediterranean paradise.
“Never a possession, but always a passion,” Corfu is the enchantress of the Ionian Sea.
This aristocratic island with its colourful and chequered history of conquests and sieges, castles and fortresses has long been a pole of attraction, bewitching visitors with its fusion of Italian swagger - the residue of a long Venetian rule, Riviera glamour and blithe Mediterranean spirit. It’s no wonder that this suave and dashing destination with its mesmerising cinematic beauty has played backdrop to a slew of films, hosting silver-screen legends like James Bond and Anthony Quinn, playing real-life legend, shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis in, “The Greek Tycoon.”
Captivated too by Corfu were the famous Durrell brothers, whose lives on the picturesque island, with its luminous sunlight and shimmering waters, inspired the tales that came to life in script and screen. There’s beckoning magic in the air in Corfu, plenty of splendour and mystique.
Settled over the slow-cooked and seasoned cultural and historic wealth, is present-day Corfu, sparkling like fairy dust and bubbling with cosmopolitan charm. Few can resist the retro-allure of the old town, a UNESCO heritage site, with its layered history, architectu-
ral whimsy and fading Venetian grandeur and its lively nostalgic ambiance that makes you want to hop on a pastelcoloured Vespa, mint or pink, and go whizzing through the maze of narrow cobbled streets, past the elegant colonnades and arches of the Liston, heart-pounding, scarf flying in the wind, carefree and joyous, transported by the spurious joie de vivre spilling from every glorious corner of this fascinating destination.
When it comes to lifestyle, Corfu pulsates with a vivacious social energy, buzzing with music festivals, jazz ensembles, theatre, museums, art exhibitions and galleries. Culture vultures will delight in the ongoing roster of entertainment and pizzazz. Posh and perky, with its musical and creative soul, Corfu attracts a dapper, sophisticated crowd devoted to its mix of finesse, old-world exoticism, and free-wheeling dolce vita vibes.
But nothing quite tops the natural beauty of Corfu. You’re going to want to continue that head-spinning joy ride through the island’s hinterland, marvelling at the landscapes as you cruise between mountains blanketed with pines, vineyards, villages and summer palaces of bygone kings. The island’s coastal splendour is a sensory, chromatic spectacle of dazzling green and blues. Ringed with glorious coves and bays for every mood, from secluded sweeps of powdery sand, to thrumming see-and-be-seen limelight spots, Corfu’s varied beaches are a calling card to sun worship. Corfu is one of those unforgettable destinations this side of paradise.

An extraordinary coastal hotel with staggering views over the Ionian Sea, cosseted in a lush backdrop of pine-peaked hills and cypress trees, and, wherever you look, the sea, giving up its pigments every hour of the day. Emblematic and lively, this exclusive, lifestyle all-in, adults-only hotel will seduce you with its dolce vita vibes, five-star finesse, and joyful charisma.
Masterminded by AUDO, the dynamic team of father and son architects, set to open summer of 2024, the breathtaking reiteration of an existing vintage hotel ushers in a new era. Valmar’s reinvention sees the meticulous reintegration of the building back into its natural environment. Raw and earthy materials; wood and stone, along with extensive planting of local flora toned down the previous façade and reharmonised the structure back into its indigenous and verdant ecosystem. Low-key and classy, none of the buildings flaunt their presence; their quiet grandiosity in complete flow with the scenery. Amphitheatrically posed, the clustered buildings follow the natural incline of the terrain, cascading from mountain summit to sea level.
The elegant arched colonnades are a subtle nod to Corfu’s Venetian influence and the structural linear lines, stone walls and naturalised exteriors blend with Corfu’s magnificent, multi-cultural and profoundly historic heritage.
At Valmar, we celebrate the duality of our two landscapes; sea and mountain, and the versatility it provides our guests in their
choice of accommodation. Those in search of seclusion and privacy will enjoy the hilltop suites, bolt holes tucked away behind breezy fronds and dense foliage. Down by the seafront, the pace picks up and Valmar’s social and energetic buzz will compel you into movement, activity and high visibility. Either by the shore, or ensconced in the hills prepare to revel in elegance.
Valmar is above all a lifestyle all-in experience hotel with a keen and social vibe as lively as Corfu itself. A testament to untamed and rugged nature. Olive groves, vineyards, mantles of sweetscented pine forests.
Land of plenty, sun-drenched and bountiful. From Byron to Goethe and from Odysseus to Oscar Wilde, poets and literary greats have extolled the stirring, Edenic beauty of this fertile island. Dubbed by the Venetians, “Il Fiore Del Levante,” “The Flower of the East,” Zante’s utopian abundance, lavish overgrowth and explosive burst of natural resources and vegetation offers some of the wildest wildlife of the Mediterranean.
Olive groves by the mile. Vineyards as far as the eye can see. Mantles of sweet-scented pine forests. With a wealth of figs and lemons, currants and mulberries and seven thousand different flowers, Zakynthos is an island of sharp contrasts and diverse landscapes that weave together hills, mountains, plains, villages and valleys into a tapestry of sights and landmarks that will leave you breathless. Venetian castles, prehistoric ruins, monasteries and a scenic portside historic town with grand squares and even grander churches and museums, reveal the island’s storied past.
Yet the true essence of Zakynthos is its landscape, a testament to untamed and rugged nature. An impressive mountain spine divides the island in two, one part fertile, one part craggy with an exhilarating coastal region of perilously sheer, razor-sharp white cliffs that plunge to the sea and enclose an endless string of silky beaches and cliff-backed caves with waters so translucent you can see the fish swimming beneath. Waters so see-through, boats appear to float, mirage-like, across their surface, as if suspended in ether, not water. Here, amidst the harmonious coexistence of elements and the lyrical splendour of the land, you are reminded that in Zakynthos nature reigns supreme. Anyone visiting these shores will feel the go-slow pull of the terrain which invites you to embark
on a journey of tranquillity and reconnection to the natural world and its gentle tempo largo rhythms. Small enough to feel intimate but large enough to evoke adventure, as you explore Zakynthos, at your own time and pace, from the notorious Shipwreck Beach, with its tales of pirates and contraband, to the protected National Marine Park, stretching from Marathia to Gerakas Bay, which safekeeps the habitat of the graceful monk seal; and from the bays of Gerakas and Laganas where the endangered loggerhead turtles come to nest and hatch, to the wetlands of Alykes, ideal for bird-watching the countless feathered species that stop over on their way to and from Africa, a fragile, glorious ecosystem unfolds its secrets. Every moment is an invitation to embrace the island’s raw beauty and immerse in the wonders of its rich, biodiverse wildlife, home to so many creatures, from the shy and lonely, semi-aquatic European mink to the majestic falcon swooping across the skies above. Either visiting the lonely monastery on the nearby tiny island of Strofades, or sun downing at the lighthouse in Keri, or l azing on the blue-flagged beaches of Tsilivi Bay, prepare to experience the tremendous, awe-inspiring force of the surrounding natural world. From horseback riding across powdery stretches of sand, to sipping wines in one of the island’s gorgeous ancient vineyards and from forest-bathing amidst fragrant pines, to hiking across the island’s mountainous backbone along a tangle of dusty donkey trails, to boating its impressive coast, rimmed with secluded bays and snorkelling in glittering, lagoon-like caves, travelling through Zakynthos can be a grounding, restorative and revitalising backto-the-land experience, a digital detox and a revel in slow-living, done nature’s way. Never in a hurry but always perfectly timed. Earthing at its best!

Since the 1950s Mykonos has been a favourite destination for the cosmopolitan jet set. An oasis at the edge of town, set amid spacious and fragrant gardens. A hotel with a vibrant history and a superbly glamorous resort-feel, perfectly poised between seclusion and sociability.
Supremely modern yet harmonised into the landscape, built from the same stone as the existing sea walls and gazing across the water to the majestic and mystical island of Delos, the birthplace of light, this mythic establishment set the pace for a new era in eclectic travel.
Throughout the decades, the iconic Mykonos Theoxenia has consistently maintained its relevance on the ever-evolving and competitive Myconian hotel scene, thanks to an unwavering commitment to innovation and renewal.
Now a landmark domain, protected by the Greek Ministry of Culture, the recent revival of this mythic, vintage hotel unveils a spectacular reimagination, spearheaded by VOIS Architects working alongside designers, Cosmosanima. Together they reformulated the existing dialogue between the building’s bright interiors, strong linear rhythms, exterior spaces, and its connection to the land, to the view, to the history, to create an overall feeling of comfort, wellbeing and elegance, compatible to the needs of contemporary travellers, but in line with Aris Konstantinidis' original vision.
The bright, light-filled spaces, the effortless merging of indoor and outdoor areas, the deconstructed, geometry of the building’s bones, with its subtle reverberations of timeless architectural motifs, were redrafted into a startling, fresh and welcoming new vernacular.
The revival of the Mykonos Theoxenia is a graceful fusion of sleek lines, radiant
spaces and an easy flow from interior to exterior lifestyle. Smooth linens and soft sculptural forms tone down and complement the building’s original stone and marble accents. Vibrant terracotta and cobalt blues offset the sun-scorched hues of the surrounding landscape.
The rounded curve of an ancient vase, the softened, time-worn fluted edges of a marble column, the repeating folds of the peplum are some of the trace elements and echoes of a classic and familiar Grecian iconography that subtly find their way into the purposefully minimal interior design, creating an elevated, Meta-Cycladic style that redefines the concept of Mediterranean chic and evokes the euphoria and simplicity of the eternal Greek summer, golden and carefree.
Barefoot elegance throughout, this architectural beauty, intimate and elegant, will impress you with its history and soul connection to the staggering natural beauty of the Cyclades and Delos.
Location here is everything. Spacious grounds, fragrant gardens, radiantly stylish interiors, gorgeous landscapes and sweeping views and an easy come, easy go atmosphere that combines tranquillity and fun at the epicentre of the action. We offer you the vibrant heart of Mykonos from the seclusion of a private and verdant hideaway.

Tune into the perfect frequency of blissful serenity, just steps from the compelling pace of town. Enjoy the seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living of these carefully thoughtout spaces that reflect the quintessence of the Mediterranean lifestyle, an effortless glide from inside to outside, following the air and light, which is the soul of the build-
ing’s original design. From the spuriously lively and social Koukou Bar for mixed drinks and spontaneous conversations, to the explosive flavours of Apanemi restaurant, drifting above the Aegean Sea, and from the amazing, palm-studded central pool, to the romantic private lounging patios and tucked-away alcoves of our gardens, to the choice therapies at So Spa!, every area of the Mykonos Theoxenia is designed to transport you on a journey that will delight and ignite the senses. From what you see, to what you taste, to how you feel, every experience is evocative of the pure joys of the Greek summer. A rugged land of gods, monsters, heroes. Crete. Europe’s oldest city and largest gorge. The minotaur’s fabled labyrinth, Theseus’ courage and creativity. Landscapes of dramatic cliff-lined coasts and transparent waters. Villages untouched by modernity nestled in the cracks of mountains. Impromptu music jams with the traditional lyra in the local kafeneio. Emerald green olive oil, cured meat, artisanal cheese and potent raki liquor. Natural authentic gastronomy. Unfiltered, unconventional, unbelievable and unforgettable.
