Hezekiah Dantzler is a class of 2024 wide receiver from Madison Prep High School out f Baton Rouge, La. Heze kiah has a 4.3 GPA and will be taking the ACT shortly. He stands 6’ and weighs 175 lbs. He is currently being looked at by Grambling State and Nicholls State. Hezekiah finds ways to get open by his good speed, great footwork, and good use of his hands. Hezekiah has the ability to be a huge playmaker in college.
After speaking with Holy Savior Menard High School head football coach Justin Charles yesterday, David Roberts was certainly one of the biggest takeaways I had in my conversa tion with Coach. At 6-3, 225 pounds with 4.7/40 speed, David has all the physical attributes of becoming a big time linebacker at the next level. In the weight room, he can bench press 265 squat 330, and power clean 255 pounds. As one of the best linebackers in the CenLa area for the Class of 2023, David hopes to get that first offer as he has been drawn a lot of interest from schools like McNeese State, Northwestern State, ULL, Louisiana Christian, and Belhav en. Coach Charles says that David is a type of player that sets the tone with his actions as he has a 3.8 GPA and is one of the school’s student ambassadors. Not only is he a great player, but he is a great leader for the Eagles as he never lets his teammates down and holds himself accountable for his actions.

Jayven Claybrook is a Class of 2023 wide receiver for Logansport High School in Logansport, Louisiana. At 6-1, 210 pounds, Jay ven is one of the most underrated upcoming seniors in the state. Although his name is not known nationally, he has accomplished quite a lot during his high school career. Jayven is coming off an incredible junior season in which he had 85 receptions for 1,541 yards and 23 touchdowns, which are all single season school re cords at Logansport. Not to mention, he also had five more touch downs on the ground. The 1st Team All-District and All-State wide receiver led the Tigers to the Class 1A State Championship game last season. This big physical wide receiver has deceptive speed and attacks the football in the air as good as anybody that I saw play last year. He is the main offensive weapon for the Tigers, but he is also just as dangerous when he is involved in the blocking game. The Tigers have produced some great offensive playmakers such as John Stephens Jr. and Key’Savalyn Barnes, who are both playing for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns. Now, Jayven Claybrook will certainly be the next great player to come from this accomplished program.

The class of 2020 was no different for the Chargers. They were led by Major Burns, initially committed to Georgia as a Safety then later transferred to Louisiana State University, and Joel Williams, who committed at the University of Kentucky as a Cornerback. These two defensive backs played both ways at Madison Prep and excelled at receiver and the defensive roles.
Fast forward to the 2022 season. The Chargers are once again led by a young quarterback. Tylan Johnson is a class of 2025 prospect that says he is more of a pocket passer than a run and gun quarterback. “I am probably going to bring more of a Joe Burrow/ Brice Young type of playing ability. I am more of an improvisor and not so much as a dual threat. I am going to try and get the ball to my receivers and let them make the plays,” Tylan told me during an interview. Why is Madison Prep Wide Receiver U? There a bunch of great programs across the state including in city rival Woodlawn. Woodlawn is loaded with talent from top to bottom. The same can be said about South Oak Cliff
Madison Prep Chargers: Wide Receiver U.
Madison Prep sits in the shadow of the capital in downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Madi son Prep has a rich history of producing some of the top college talent in the nation. This program just recently won the 2020 3A State Championship over Union Parish by a score of 50-0. That team was led by Zeon Chriss, class of 2022 Quarterback signed at Uni versity of Louisiana, and Quency Wiggins, class of 2022 Defensive End signed at Louisiana State University. Zeon began his career at Madison Prep as a Freshman and had instant success. After interviewing and follow ing his career over the four years he was at Madison Prep, I learned two things about Zeon, he keeps God first in his life and he works hard at everything he does. Zeon competed at several quarterback competitions over the years and consistently ranked in the top of the quarterbacks at those camps. Quency is no different. He too worked hard to become one of the top pass rushers in the country before committing to the Tigers. If asked, they would both say that they were highly encouraged during their careers at Madison Prep to be the best.

What astonishes me on this Madison Prep team, is not just the talent of the upper classmen, but the depth and talent of the younger guys. Soph. Semaj Pierre has al ready received offers from school like Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, and Grambling to name a few. “Semaj is one of the best rout runners I have ever had the pleasure to coach,” said receivers coach Anthony Jones. Semaj is joined by Andre Gipson, QB Tylan Johnson, Calvin Spears, and Brandon Blunt in the class of 2025. The incomming Freshmen class is as talented as well with Keyon Robinson and Javen Holmes. Going into the 2022 season, the Madison Prep Chargers are talented, young, and deep with skill players. I look forard to wathing this sqad perform this season.

So why Madison Prep? “The Chargers are loaded with surrounding this young quarterback, Tylan, with 10 receivers that could start on any other program,” said coach Anthony Jones, “Senior receivers David Jones and Treylan James have gained a lot of attention from a number of top-notch college programs including Ne braska and Grambling State to name a few.”

This season, coach Landry Williams is turning over the reigns of the Madison Prep Chargers over to sophomore quarterback. This is noting new since coach Williams is known for trusting in his players. Four years ago, he started fresh man Zeon Chriss and for the past four years Zeon set records with the Chargers that will be difficult to match. However, now that Zeon is headed to the University of Louisiana, it is time for the newcomer to begin his legacy. The team will certainly be challenged in the first three games of the season as Warren Easton will be playing against Louisiana pow erhouse programs including Ruston High School, Catholic High School (Baton Rouge), and Edna Karr High School before even getting into the meat of the schedule. By: Jace LeJeune
The Warren Easton Fighting Eagles have proven to be one of the best programs in the entire state of Louisiana regardless of classification. Located in New Orleans, the Eagles are one of the many football teams in the area to produce collegiate talent every year including the likes of guys such as Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyron Johnson, UL Ragin’ Cajuns quarterback Lance Legendre, and Tulane running back Ashaad Clayton just to name a few. Under the leadership of head coach Jerry Phillips, the team has always been in the conversation of contending for a state champi onship. In fact, since 2014, the Fighting Eagles have been at least to the semifinals every season and also made the state championship game four times during that span including last season. However, the team is still searching for its first state title since 1942. Heading into the 2022 season, the Fighting Eagles definitely want to get that elusive monkey off their back, but right now, the team is only fo cusing on what they can control today just to get themselves ready for the upcoming season. I got the chance to catch up with Coach Phillips and see what the Fighting Eagles have cooking for the fall. The Fighting Eagles have had themselves a very busy offseason, and because of that, the team is right on pace to start off the season where they want to be. “We did a few seven on sevens. We went to Southeastern, LSU, South Alabama, and UL. We got a lot of seven on seven work this summer because we have a lot of new guys at receiver that need to catch the ball as much as possible, but I think we have had a productive summer. Spring has also been really good for us too so I think we are back on the right track.”
This weekend, the coaching staff is taking the team on a team retreat in order to build even more camaraderie before the start of the sea son. For the coaches, it is another opportunity to grow this team even more while continuing to preach their overall message to the players. “It is all about sticking together and account ability. They have done a great job in doing that. They are holding each other accountable and this just seems to be one of these teams that are really bonded. It means a lot when the players are holding each other accountable.”
Holy Savior Menard High School goals during the spring and in the summer. Now, it is time for the Eagles to focus on what is ahead of them, which is the 2022 season.
“This summer has been the best summer since I’ve been here going into my third season. Our attendance has been so high. Our partic ipation has been great and we are starting to find some leaders. We still have some ways to go, but I am very proud of the way our kids have worked this summer.”
Winning games will not be easy as the Eagles will have to face the likes of the Avoyelles Mustangs, which was a minute away from reaching the Class 2A State Championship last season, and the Rosepine Eagles, which was a team that made the Quarterfi nals for the first time in school history. The team also has their hands full in non-district as well playing teams such as St. Freder ick, Pineville, and Sacred Heart to name a few. However, the Menard Eagles have a brand of football that could help them achieve that winning season.
Coach Charles has been impressed with how much the players have believed in each other and trusted each other during this pro cess. That alone could go a long way in determining a lot of foot ball games this fall. In terms of goals for the upcoming season, the coaching staff is just trying to limit to short term goals focusing on the task right ahead of them. So far, the team has accomplished its
Holy Savior Menard High School is located in Alexandria, Louisiana and plays at the Class 2A level. The Eagles are coming off a disappointing 1-9 season, but the program has a chance to soar to new heights in year number three for former Louisiana College Head Coach Justin Charles. I got the chance to catch up with Coach Charles and get an update on how his team is looking over the summer.
What Coach Charles likes most about this year’s squad is that ev erybody knows their role as this team has a good mix of both expe rience and leadership. Although there are only eight seniors on the roster, 16 underclassmen started on last year’s team. Because of all the experience coming back, Coach is confident that 2022 can be the year that everybody can sync together. “We wear a shirt that says [Be The Standard]. We want to set the standard and raise the standard everyday. We want every other team to be where we want to be. We want to be the standard in everything that we do and not just on the football field.”
“The defense is going to be very exciting to watch. Our defense plays so fast and that is the side of the football that everybody is going to watch out for. On the offensive side of the football, we are going to be a team that runs the football. We are going to run some power, some counter, and some iso. Everybody knows what we are going to run, but being more experienced on that side of the football, we will execute a lot more.”

Dutchtown High School, which is located in Geismar, Lou isiana, just had another one of their own commit to play for a college football team. Senior linebacker Dickson Agu has decided to stay within his own state and commit to the Tulane Green Wave. “Tulane was the second school to extend an offer back in December and since then, the whole staff has been welcoming, inviting me to every event that they host.”

Murray is rated among a lot of kicking gurus as the number one kicker in the entire country. Because of his booming leg and high ceiling, big time college football programs were all over him as early as his freshman year. Despite having two entire years of high school eligibility left, Murray feels that he has already made a connection with the Hurricanes that cannot be touched.

“It is not as early in the recruiting process as it seems for me. I’ve been fortunate to have been engaged in the process with the programs I wanted for some time, including Miami. I was impressed with Coach Cristobal’s approach while going through the process with Oregon, so when he moved to Miami, I just had a sense that was where I needed to be. Coach’s vision for the program, the incredible staff he assembled, the awesome Miami fan base, and program history came together and sealed the decision for me. Miami will be THE program in college football in the near future, and I want to help bring that national championship home to The U family.”
