Design by Research

The theme of the Research-Based Design project is Urban Acupuncture. Where an injected architectural work can restore and improve the quality of a city. Like the human body, if we know which part of the body is ill, it can restore the illness part. The scale of architectural design in Urban Acupuncture does not have to big. But the most important thing is right in overcoming the problem of urban space.

Pasr Lama Waterfront Housing

Julia Dewi

Design for the residential area and placements for space functionality on Pasar Lama Tangerang waterfront are not organized. Residential and the trading area are unstructured. Aside from that, the identity of Pasar Lama Tangerang area at the riverside of Cisadane River became weak. If there is no proper handling of the fading of identity and unstructured occupancy it may lead to become placelessness area and obstruct growth towards the economy movement of the local community as merchants. The research involves gathering data consisting of literature study, site observation, and interview with the surrounding community. Literature studies describes about the residential function, waterfront area, and the identity of Pasar Lama. The above methods are planned to help design residential spaces near the area of waterfront which brings out the identity along with it. Site observation are used to verify theories and to analyse the residential functions, building, accessibility, and supporting facility. Interviews are directed to the local community living within the surrounding site nor the community that live while working as merchant. The product of this research is to discover residential functions design that can overcome the problem of ďŹ xing and improving the zoning and relation of residential areas and mercenary areas.

Architectural Design Studio 5

The theme of the Studio Architecture Design project 5 aims to bring up the existing locality in Cirebon towards architecture. How the quality of the architecture in this project besides having an appropriate influence on the context also brings Cirebon locality to a more global scope. The locality in the form of building materiality, programs, and activities created by the existing space.

Academic Project Architectural Design Studio 5 Project topic: Embracing Locality to Global Setting Location: Cirebon, Central Java Year: 2018 Mentors Julia Dewi

Cirebon Cultural & Art Center is a program aimed at the art community in Cirebon, especially the theater community and mask dance arts communities that still exist and develop. Because there was no place that could support the community's activities, the main program that intended was the theater hall. The main concept of this project is to bring together and combine Cirebon locality like activity, material (brick and mass composition) with modern like design strategies, materials (concrete & mirrors) and vision of the project itself.

Cirebon Cultural & Art Center

The main programs and supporting programs are connected by outdoor space and vegetation as transitional spaces and shading so that space users can feel the outdoor atmosphere but remain comfortable from the sun's heat by the roof coverings. The theater hall program is integrated with the surrounding programs as well and can be used flexibly according to the needs of arts and cultural and theatrical performances. Theater hall support programs are cafes, libraries and outdoor and indoor art exhibition rooms for art purposes in the city of Cirebon.

The theme of the Studio Architecture Design 4 intends how the appropriate response between the public space and the existing context. The sustainable design approach is water, air, social, and economy. Then ďŹ nd the appropriate public space program, botanical garden, green space with a sustainable concept. One of the supporting programs is residential (apartment). The intention of an apartment to trigger crowds within the site.

Academic Project Architectural Design Studio 4 Project topic: Reinventing Urban Public Life Location: Kemang, West Jakarta Year: 2018 Mentors Dicky Tanumihardja

With the theme of Water, apartments in the Lippo Kemang area make residential buildings with design facades that are inspired by water waves. This project is a 13-story apartment with 60 rooms. The Sustainability issue raised is the processing of light energy into a part of the energy source of this building. Balcony design is formed based on the basic concepts of water waves and the response from the arrival of sunlight into the building, especially the residency area.

The cantilever of 3 meters is designed to shade each side of the building to maintain and minimize the heat of thermal temperature in the room.

Architectural Design Studio 3

The theme of the Project Design Architecture Studio 3 to create a space consciously for the needs of temporary space speciďŹ cally located in Harmoni, Jakarta. By looking at the context of human activities, we are required to be sensitive to responding and creating architectural spaces that are suitable for the needs of the people of Jakarta who are busy at work.

Academic Project Architectural Design Studio 3 Project topic: Temporary living space Location: Harmoni, Central Jakarta Year: 2017 Mentors Wendy Djuhara

The concept of DKNL Hostel is to create a hostel by applying green or biophilic architecture, aimed at young workers or travelers. The facade is a geometric square with an axis in each elbow made of white aluminum panels that are contrasting and different from the mass of the surrounding buildings. Massing in the center is tilted, transparent, and white in order to become the focal point of this architectural work.

DKNL Hostel

The green area in the middle of a semi-outdoor park aims to bring green space that is rarely found in Jakarta as well as manage the thermal temperature. Creating a quiet space in the middle area that is semi-indoor and becomes a buffer from noise and density outside the site.
