RUNG LOCK
1) Lay ladder on floor with the base or wide section of ladder resting on floor or proper work surface. Extend the fly or narrow section of ladder
approx. 6”, so that the rung locks are between two base rungs, as shown in figure 1. 2) Remove one rung lock from bracket by removing the 3/8”-16 locknut, using a 9/16” and a 3/4” wrench, as shown in figure 1. Only one rung lock is
to be taken off and replaced at a time. This is done so that you can use one rung as a guide to reassemble the other. 3) Choose the proper new rung lock to replace the one removed. The right hand rung lock is equipped with a latch and the left hand is not. 4) Determine which spring is required for the rung lock that you are about to assemble. The left hand spring must be used on the left hand side of the
ladder and the right hand spring must be used on the right hand side of the ladder. See figure 2 to determine the correct spring. 5) Reassemble the new rung lock, shoulder bolt and spring to the bracket where you have just removed the old rung lock. Finger tighten the locknut 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) 11)
making sure the dimpled side of the locknut faces away from the rung lock. See figure 3. Make sure that the rung lock spring is positioned around the shoulder bolt with the short end of the spring hooked over the top of the rung lock bracket. The long end of the spring is not attached at this time. See figure 4. Using the 9/16” & 3/4” wrenches, tighten the locknut until it will not tighten anymore. Hold the long end of the spring and rotate it up between rung lock and rail, then hook over the top of the rung lock. See figure 5. Repeat steps 2-8 for the other rung lock. It is very important that BOTH rung locks be replaced to ensure proper operation. The rung locks should have some side play. This side play is to allow the rung locks to operate properly. Apply latch instruction label to rail above or below right hand rung lock assembly. DISCARD THE OLD FASTNERS AND RUNG LOCKS!!!
