closely between the psychic and the guide, who is able to lock in ver y closely to the psychic’s consciousness and create a strong link. The clairaudient’s function is to go from the normally active mental state of drawing on the sea of mind energies to more passive state in which he allows no interference from his conscious mind. He is alert but, at the same time, passive. I must stress here the vast difference between the genuine practice of clairaudience and the danger of hearing imagine voices which can, at worst, lead to a form of schizophrenia. Clairaudience is a controlled practice performed in a balanced state of mind, in which you calmly obser ve the thoughts entering your consciousness. A schizophrenic condition, on the other hand, is caused by a mental imbalance leading to an uncontrolled imaginative state of consciousness, in which the individual ver y often invents the type of messages he subconsciously wants to hear. Schizophrenics who claim to hear psychic voices will

often obey them unthinkingly and use them as an excuse for their actions, which can be anything from bizarre to criminal. The balanced practitioner of clariaudience will assess the messages logically and only act upon them if he believes that it is wise and correct to do so. If there is any doubt about the mental balance of a person, he or she should not practice clairaudience. If you think you are hearing voices but are unsure whether they are your imagination or a genuine clairaudient impression, I would advise you to err on the side of caution and not jump to any definite conclusions until they are confirmed through the substance of the messages themselves. Discrimination: There are two main ways to develop the necessar y discrimination in clairaudience. Firstly you will learn to recognize that a different vibration is being emitted towards you. You will start to feel the presence of somebody else and be able to tell the difference between your own state of consciousness, which should be as elevated as possible, and another vibration being transmitted to you. Communicating intelligence will usually have their own passwords. You will not be in an active mental state in which you are consciously thinking about things, but will be passively receiving whatever thoughts happen to go through the brain. Mystical exercises and yoga practices will help you to learn the sensitivity necessar y to develop this skill of discrimination. Because you are not thinking actively about something in this state, you will be an obser ver of thoughts and there will come a stage when you will also be impressed by outside feelings and vibrations which you know are not coming from yourself. If you were psychically hearing no particular sound but only thoughts emerging in your brain, it would be difficult to know for sure that they were not your own thoughts. Clairaudience will be the

critical factor in determining the difference between your own mind and the impressions emitted to you from another mind. Providing you practice patiently, there will come a stage when you will start to hear the distinct characteristics of the voice transmitting the message. This is not a physical sound; it is heard by the inner ear. I would recommend that you start to write down any psychic messages you receive, or indeed any other clairaudient experiences you have, because there are many other psychic sounds you can learn to hear, apart from communications from higher realms. There is a ver y big difference between writing down clairaudient messages you receive and the practice of ‘automatic writing’. In the first case you are in full control of what you are doing and are consciously aware of the message you receive – you are simply writing it down as a record for letter study. In ‘automatic writing’ the practitioner is generally overshadowed by a psychic entity that does not just impress the mind but also guides the hand. In certain cases this may be a dangerous practice, because the practitioner will tend to enter a negative trance and may, at worst, be possessed by a promiscuous entity. But provided you remain in control and do not practice ‘automatic writing’, it is a ver y good thing to keep a written log of your clairaudient experiences. You will certainly make mistakes in the early stages, but with practice, a sense of humor and above all perseverance, you can gradually develop the sense of psychic hearing. This is one way to unlock those inner attributes which many neglect and leave untapped, and yet which dwell within the innately divine nature of each of us. How many times have you heard the phrase ‘the still small voice within’ to describe this divine nature which is expressed through what is tantamount to a high form of clairaudience? It is, in effect, the voice of the inner self.
