Thanks to our partnership with Mr. Darryll Silvers, we participated in a magnificent competition in Orlando at the Disney Swan Hotel.

SOLO STAR

Perhaps we will have the opportunity to take you along for the ride if you choose to participate in your own solo showcase performance. We have seen a few dancing stars in the making, and to you we say “keep on dancing!”, you are very close. If 2012 was a good year for you, then 2013 is bound to bring even more unforgettable moments on the dance floor. Count on it.

This trip, dresses, and all the necessary supplies were in part covered thanks to our kind sponsors.

The support of our family including our 93-year-old grandma who made the flight so she could be part of the experience as I hit the dance floor round after round.

This new year has also brought a new dance partner and we look forward to hit the dance floor pursuing a title championship

HAVANA NIGHTS

BEST OF TIMES

We were introduced to Rita Diaz after a wedding event and decided to organize a dance party at her temple. Needless to say, the event was a total success. We think this could be another service we can provide to groups and organizations. So we have work to do, but the idea was conceived thanks to the great positive energy and smiling faces we saw that August night.

As early as January 5th, we agreed to work with Jumaki, the new owner at the studio. Sunday Night parties are back, Potluck theme parties on the 4th Sunday and Showcases. Instead of reminiscing about the good times, we are now looking forward to meeting new faces, taking many pictures and having the best of times.

The pursuit of happiness and dance

It is as I take a moment for a quick yawn (pause) and think about the goals and expectations we have for this year. No coffee needed when one is filled with inspiration. Now everyone knows that when it comes to resolutions, it is best to stop making promises one will more than likely not keep and simply focus in pursuing what you love. Although we took the time to jot down a few wishes, the objective is this:

e

This year has a strong focus on solid dancing and the pursuit of achievements in the competition arena.

e

Eugenia has clocked in close to three hundred hours of preparation with her partner, Volvick Denis, and we expect that they will be competing in the upcoming months. While we are preparing for competition, we will also be focusing on

helping select dancers in their pursuit of dancing as a career. For our intermediate and beginner level dancers, there will be more structure and easier ways to follow the material with videos and emails. Written guides will be provided covering the steps and key points to help keep the material fresh in the students’ minds.

Showcase dances will be planned in advance giving ample opportunity to all dancers who wish to participate to set a schedule and get all the necessary rehearsals to be ready for show time. Showcase teams will be invited to Best of Times in Calle Ocho, VK Studio in North Miami, Kendall Dance Studio and Feathers Dance in Davie.

Thanks to a last minute change, we will be offering Sunday Night Parties at Best of Times. Eugenia and company will begin the class at 6:45pm and continue with the party until 9:30pm. Everyone is welcomed to new management which promises more friendly, welcoming ambiance, monthly pot luck (theme parties) and quarterly showcase dances.

Communication among our dancers will be enhanced via regular email updates, our website (currently being revised), social media (Facebook & Twitter), audio greetings, texts and our new ballroom dance magazine.

Students who take group classes, private classes and other programs, will soon be able to make reservations online and make payments with credit cards through a mobile application.

Continue to stay connected with us and share with your friends and those who would like to dance and benefit from our programs.

et yourself get discouraged! You’ll probably come away from those first few classes feeling a bit overwhelmed and letting negative thoughts invade your head, telling you that you’ll never get it right. Simply not true! Even though learning a new dance can seem intimidating, and you might feel you’ll never remember which step goes where, trust me when I tell you, it will all come together, given time....and practice. Fortunately, you probably can’t remember back when you were two and first learning to walk. How many times do you suppose you fell on your tushie before you actually made it all the way across the room? What if you had told

yourself to just give up, this is too hard, I’ll never learn this? I guess we’d all still be crawling! No, don’t give up. When you get home, try to repeat at least some of the steps you learned during that first class. But even if you can’t remember anything by the time you get to your car, the next class almost always starts with a review of the 4 | Dance Love | Janurary 2013 | dance @myballroomlessons.com

last class. If you’ll stick to it for the duration of the 6 or 8 week session, you’ll come out on the other end with a working knowledge of some basic moves under your belt (or maybe I should say under your feet). That’s a promise. Do Share this with someone you know who may need some encouragement.
