LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
It’s important to live a sustainable life these days. It’s the first step toward a clean and healthy Earth. In the past, I’ve experimented with repurposing everyday items, such as using milk jugs to water plants, peanut butter jars as planters, and Topo Chico bottles for water refills. Through the small things, we can build a better tomorrow and be more conscious of Earth. Sustainability is a major inspiration for the Love & Chaos Spring 2020 issue, which explores Austin and the people who are doing their part for a better tomorrow. Passport Vintage and Silk Diaries, led by forwardthinking businesswomen, are the best examples of sustainable businesses in Austin. Maria Olivera and Ryan Lerma, owners of Passport Vintage, have collected and curated the best selection for this year’s outfits from vintage Levi’s to nostalgic pop-culture t-shirts. Kylee Barnard, owner of Silk Diaries, shares her happiness, love, and strength through her handdyed silk apparel and accessories with the Austin community, choosing silk for its unparalleled strength like the women she makes them for. This issue wouldn’t be possible without the best artists and creatives involved in this. A large thank you to Jake Goodman, Design Director, who carefully managed and organized the content of this issue. A large thank you to Claire Murphy, Austin illustrator and painter, who designed the front cover. A large thank you to Caitlin Rounds, Tre’Nae Bynum, Hannah Lasure, and Madison King for illustrating life in Kylee’s and Maria’s clothes. The team and I are grateful for the people who inspire us everyday and we’re excited for the future of the Austin community. All my best, Matthew Zambrano Editor-in-Chief, Love & Chaos Magazine
EDITORS & S TAFF
MAT THEW Z AMBR ANO @lovechaosmagazine Editor-in-Chief Matthew Zambrano, a 23 year-old film photographer, birthed Love & Chaos Magazine in January 2019. His passion is to fortify and unite artists, creatives, and the community. His mission is to celebrate and recognize local artists and creatives for their accomplishments, from amateurs to professionals. On an average day, you’ll find him working with his creative team, collaborating with artists on new projects, and exploring the artist community to find the next big thing. In his down time, he hangs out at Greater Goods Coffee Roasters with his girlfriend Sara. He still loves to shoot film photography from time to time.
JAKE GOODMAN @goodmangooddesign Design Director Jake Goodman is a Designerwith-a-capital-D, his eyes always observing, his mind always turning. His design philosophy is a particular combination of “the details are not the details—they make the design” and “speak softly and carry a big stick and you will go far”, drawing inspiration from mid-20th century European design, Hubble Space Telescope imagery, AM Cassandre, WPA posters, chiaroscuro, and the Noir aesthetic. Besides designing, he enjoys creating, drawing, reading, dabbling in writing, and trying to placate his obnoxious bird Sam.

PASSPORT VINTAGE
MARIA OLIVERA and RYAN LERMA, founders of PASSPORT and Passport Vintage, started their journey as vintage clothiers in Chicago, Illinois in Spring 2014. PASSPORT, an online vintage shop on Etsy, was inspired by art, music, and travel. Maria and Ryan aren’t purists, they base their vintage curation on worn and evolved pieces with life breathed into them by the people of the past. Maria and Ryan focus on vintage styles from the 60s through the 90s, unafraid to modify pieces to fit modern needs to promote reuse. Passport Vintage, opened in summer 2016, is their brick-and-mortar shop on 2217 South 1st Street. There, Maria and Ryan share their passion for vintage styles, outfitting the people of Austin with reusable, vintage fashion.
SILK DIARIES
KYLEE BARNARD, founder and designer of Silk Diaries, empowers women in the Austin community with her honest and sustainable silk products. Some of her sustainability methods include using renewable resources to make her natural dyes. Flowers, fruits, plants, roots, and tree barks are a couple examples of her usage of natural elements to create a sustainable business. This Earth-friendly initiative is a push to be more considerate of the planet, especially in a time when things are so fragile. Kylee was inspired by the comfort of a silk blanket she had as a child, and how it eased her anxious and tireless mind. She continues to share that comfort with you through her silk products such as bralettes, kimonos, pillowcases, robes, scarves, and scrunchies. Silk Diaries is located inside Broad Studios at Springdale General, a multi-disciplinary female art-collective.
