Lovely Pretty Digital Magazine | Winter Edition | 2017

! o l l He A few weeks ago I was thinking of my favourite wedding things. I could describe them all as pretty or lovely or inspiring. I decided to create a digital magazine that would allow me to share these lovely, pretty things in a way that my blog can't. So, here we are. This is the first issue of the Lovely Pretty digital magazine and it's full of some amazing wedding inspiration. The reason you are receiving this digital magazine is because you've chosen to subscribe to Lovely Pretty mail, and let's face it, no-one wants to be on the receiving end of another "newsletter" (I sure don't!). So, in future, this is where I'll share news, photos, stories and lots of pretty things. Love Kelly xxx

"Justin proposed to me at Constantia Glen which is one of our favourite places to go. We have made friends with one of the managers (as we are there so often!) and she helped Justin plan the whole thing. He made up some story that we were going there for breakfast to meet some of his family from overseas and I totally bought the whole thing. When we arrived nobody was there and he suggested we go for a stroll through the restaurant and onto the grass bank that has a beautiful view of the mountains. There’s a little alcove tucked into the hill and as we approached it I could see what looked like a proposal layout, but I was convinced that someone else had prepared it to propose! I even said to Justin, “Oh my gosh, I think someone is going to propose here!”. He must have been freaking out haha. Anyway he convinced me that we weren’t intruding on somebody else’s proposal and invited me to stand with him and admire the view of the mountains. He whipped out some binoculars and encouraged me to take a look at the spot where he asked me out (you could see it from where we were standing). As I was gazing into the binoculars he had dropped to one knee behind me and when I turned around there he was!"

In March 2017, Amy and Justin exchanged vows amongst the trees at Die Woud. Since they aren't fans of themed weddings, the inspiration behind their decor came from their love of the English countryside. From the bare, wooden tables to the rustic wooden boards which served as place settings and wedding favours, the feel of the decor can be described as rustic and wild. Amy is a self-proclaimed control freak, so there were very few DIY elements to this wedding. Not wanting to stress over the perfection (or lack thereof) of DIY projects, the focus was on simple, effective decor and the celebration of love. "In all honesty the day could not have been more perfect! Everything went according to plan and I didn’t have to stress about anything. The only thing that I wish I could go back and do would be to throw my bouquet! In all the craziness I completely forgot."

"I had my dress made for me and I decided on the design myself. I’ve had a pinterest wedding board since I was in high school so when the time finally came I had a lot of inspiration to choose from! I had seen a few two piece wedding dresses on pinterest and I thought that style was really unique and different and I was instantly obsessed. I browsed pinterest until I finally found a design that I fell in love with and then based the design for my dress on that."

"I think my favourite part of the day was when Justin and I went off for our photo shoot, just us without our bridal party. It was the only time where we were alone and could just fully be present with one another and take it all in! It was such an important time to reflect and try pause time for just a moment or two."

t e g o t d How e v l o v n i n a m your Most girls grow up picturing their dream wedding and drawing sketches of the most beautiful wedding dresses. Most of us have had secret wedding planning Pinterest boards for longer than we’d like to admit. A lot of women pretty much know what their wedding will look like before their significant other drops down on one knee. The thing is, most guys are the opposite. Little boys grow up knowing they want to get married, and they pursue women with marriage in mind, but they probably haven’t got a colour scheme picked out. We’ve got to realize that sometimes getting men involved in wedding planning is going to be tough. If you’re in this situation, I’ve got a few ways you can get your man to be excited about planning the wedding so he can be involved too!

10

1. Ask him for his input and ideas This seems so obvious, but you’ve got to think of this from the perspective of your partner. He may think that you don’t want his input because you’ve got this covered.Simply asking him for his input may empower him to feel like he has something to offer. Remind him that this is his wedding too and that you genuinely want this to be a wedding he loves. 2. Support his ideas Now, it’s one thing to ask your man for his ideas, but you’ve got to support those ideas. You don’t have to enjoy every single thing he suggests, but if he feels like you’re shooting down all his ideas, he’s not going to have much to contribute. Be supportive of his ideas and do your best to include them in the wedding. 3. Give him tasks he’ll enjoy If you know your partner isn’t huge on admin, don’t ask him to handle spreadsheets with guest’s information and RSVPs.

However, if he is a foodie, put him in charge of the menu and the correspondence with the caterer. Find out what he enjoys doing and what he is really good at and use those skills to encourage him to get involved. If he’s good at something he’ll want to be part of it! 4. Ask him questions Similar to the first point, having an open conversation with your partner will show him that his input is valued. Take this further and reinforce your need for his opinion by asking him questions along the way. “Do you prefer this cake over that one?” or “Do you like the idea of doing a first dance?” are simple questions that show your partner that his opinion is valued. 5. Chat about your honeymoon A lot of men expect that the woman plans the wedding while the man plans the honeymoon. Some couples plan both together - that’s what my husband and I did. Have a conversation where you share your expectations in this regard. If he isn’t into the idea of contributing towards the wedding planning, he may just get very excited to plan the entire honeymoon on his own. Give him this option if it suits you both. 6. Keep it fun Remember that your partner isn’t your employee. He is your partner, your best friend, and your soon-to-be husband. This experience should be something that you can bond over, so try to keep admin talk to a minimum and use this as an opportunity to have fun together. Keep it fun and he’ll enjoy this experience with you.
