What’s unfortunate about being stressed is that people become sad, ill-tempered, and unkind when they’re consumed by it. As a result, they eventually end up living dull lives. However, there is always hope when it comes to combating this psychological and emotional issue attached to most of us. Listed below are the twelve practical strategies in order to manage stress in one’s daily life. Sleep well – sleep deprivation is one of the major contributors of stress. If you cannot manage to sleep enough every night, you’re certainly wake up stressed and a bad day looms ahead. But if you can at least have a decent sleep of seven or eight hours, you’ll find out later how beneficial it is to start your day right. Do Some Stretching – Have you heard about muscle tension and numbness? You may never know until it hits you, but muscle tension can actually cause stress. Remember those times when all you have to do the entire day is sit in your chair and work on the computer until you can’t seem to move your muscles and joints anymore. Obviously, the stress factor in this kind of working environment is pretty high. Try standing up or changing your position from time to

time. Take a good ten minute break from your desk and stretch those muscles. You’ll be relieved, guaranteed. Smile, Laugh, Have Fun in What You’re Doing – laughter is the best medicine. Not only does it cure loneliness, a broken heart, or even psychological issues, it is also a very effective weapon against stress. When you develop the practice of making a smile and happy thought out of every situation you are in, no matter how pressure-packed it is, you will find out later on that it’s doing some nice things to you. It may seem like you’re kinder to your boss or sweeter to your spouse. Lend a Hand – a study conducted by students of Emory University found out that if a person concentrates on helping others for their well being, that same person can likely reduce his/her own level of stress. This means that if you extend a hand to others, you’re actually giving yourself a favor since you will feel a lot better and eventually eliminate stress, at least gradually. Music Heals the Soul – most of us don’t know it, but music can actually soothe pain and alleviate pressure within us. The symphony and melody of a song can put your blood pressure and heart beat in normal levels. When you’re at a stable state, you also get a greater chance of getting rid of stress. So listen to your favorite tune by the time you feel you’ve been clogged by stress. Read A Book – even if you are not a bookworm, grabbing a book when it feels like everything is against you is a good remedy to achieve the kind of relaxation you desperately need. Stress can oftentimes be caused by the mind getting too much work. It may feel like you lose track of all the stuff you have to do and finish. Anyway, reading a book will help your mind relax and rest a bit. Bake or Cook – people who love to cook get the advantage of fighting stress better than anyone. This is because they use their kitchen and their cooking hobby to forget anything that’s making them stressful. A handful of work in the office or the pressure it brings can be thrown out in one’s mind by baking your children’s favorite cake or preparing the best dinner for your partner.

Realize What You’re Doing is Right – one reason why people become so unkind, harsh, and sad is because they feel they’re not doing the right thing, or perhaps other people around them aren’t doing the thing as well. As a result, getting all stressed out is very likely. But only if you think of what you’re doing as the right thing to do, you don’t have to worry about anything else. Be confident about your decisions and you’ll get lucky. After all, every single scenario in life is about trial and error. Walk it off – what would you say if you’re getting too much workload and you are stuck in the office practically the whole day? The most common line is “walking it off.” Give yourself a much needed break time and go outside. Feel the fresh air and the sight of people moving around. The usual and mundane stuff we do in life can cause too much stress and the consequence is that you are going to succumb to it. So exert some bit of effort in going outside and putting that stress factor in the trash. Friendly Advice – friends are what they should be – someone whom you can approach anytime for advice. People who experience high levels of stress need company. They need people who are willing to listen and empathize. If you’re stressed and can’t seem to shake it off, call a friend and everything will be just fine. Move On and Be Rational – stress is aggravated when people dwell on past mistakes and errors. For instance, you barely make it through the day because of the argument you had with your boss, workmate, mom, or even your partner. If you don’t want to get stressed further, resolve the argument, move on, and wake up the next morning hoping that today will be better than yesterday. Do not start your day by going back to the same argument over and over again. Be Happy – Even if There is No Reason To Be – there is no other effective way of relieving yourself from stress than trying your best to be happier and kinder to the people around you. While we hate to admit it, but a large portion of stress is actually caused by our own negative attitude.
