INTRODUCTION Having studied landscape architecture at University for four years and in different design institutes as an intern for nearly one year, I`ve grown from a layman to a newhand into the landscape design, I am preparing the road yet. This porfolio is set to be a staged summary of my university and internship study. Ecology, from my perspective, would be a major topic for the future generation. I strongly believe that the eco system maintenance of Lake Tai is necessary to not only be used to adjust and improve the effect of landscape ecology in Suzhou, but also to attract people. As a landscape architect, I feel that we have our responsibilities to integrate the environmental concern into our designs.

Urban, the place we grow up and make a living in, is not only familiar but slaso seemes strange to us. Designers always have this kind of self-righteous sense of social responsibility. And of course, I am one of them. I research and ponder over the city(both community and transportation system), trying to save it through design. In my opinion, each of the designers is trying his /her best to help in urban transformation, out city will become better and better. Tradition is a topic Chinese designers seem not able to avoid. It seems that we have strayed away from tradition for quite some time. However, thousands of years of Chinese civilization has deep-rooted in the bones of us. I was born and grew up in Suzhou, one of the most historical and beautiful cities in China as in the saying “Paradise in Heaven; Suzhou and Hanzhou on earth”. Its traditional landscape architecture is my love. The fourth design lead me gradually found my passion in introducing traditional Chinese culture

into modern design.

Fishing area has a small number of visitors that limited to fishing enthusiasts and looker-on. Arrangement should have more aquatic plants such as reeds and lotus in order to facilitate fishing habits. And thick plants help to reduce noise and create a quiet environment to fishing.

raising of featured fish

Raise the local lake food, such as the Three Whites of Lake Tai (White fish, Silver fish, and White prawn) and hairy crabs. They are symbolic local foods. Tourists can taste the fresh lake food as well as enjoy the fishing activities.

planting with ornamental plants

Planting of aquatic agricultural products

The “hydrophilic platform of the wet land would attract tourists; therefore lots of aquatic plants should be positioned here to create good wet land scenery. Meanwhile, the level changes of the aquatic plants should be considered in order to create unique vision feelings.

Plant the local aquatic agricultural products such as lotus root, brasenia, water chestnut, cress, etc. Organize entertaining and interactive picking event to promote a healthy and natural lifestyle.

LANDSCAPE NODE SKETCH

SURFACE

The lake surface is at the top of the lake ecosystem. It interacts mostly with the tourists. There are mostly emergent plants and floating plants, with fishes occasionally passing by.Fishing enthusisats can get a better landscape experience.

SHALLOW WATER

Shallow water layer has a better light transmission than deeper water layers. There are many submerged plants, plankton and a few fish.

DEEP WATER

Deep water layer has poor visibility where most of fish habitat. It has a small amount of submerged plants and plankon. This layer is basically nothing to do with tourists, but as an integral part of the ecology plays an important role.

LAKEBED

Bottom water layer has a lot of humans and plankton. It rarely has landscape plants to survive and large size fish to habitat. It provides the main microbes support for the whole ecosystem of the lake.

Along with the adjustment of the national agricultural layout, more labor-dense industries are moving towards the Middle West of the country (which is Luoyang and the surrounding cities). Plenty of farmers move into the city while local talented people move out. The workers are not getting used to the urban life, plus the popularity dense and poor living conditions make them feel unhappy.

Space division based on the local geographic featured “mountains”

People from Luoyang have a deep affection towards terraced mountains. They always remember the Taoyuanming style natural and casual life even though lots of they moved into buildings nowadays. The Taoyuanming style is the highest pursue for Chinese people regarding poetic living style.

THE HEART OF A CITY

3. 18

URBAN DEVELOPMENT Square is located in front of the old train station of Zhenjiang and it is the most prosperous place which is at the end of Zhongshan Road.At the present, the whole street is rebuilding.Since the establish of the new railway station, the passenger flow in the old train station reduce gruadully. However, the old railway station is still responsible for establishing the city image, evaculating the passenger and providing the environment to the surrounded people for having rest.

A city’s operation is like the operations of organic lives. Along with cells division, great number of new cells is created with clearer division of functions--in urban planning which means improvement of city functions. However, under malignant growth, a surface prosperity could lead to canceration. In order to save a city from this kind of malignant growth, we need to work on the city cells.

There are embedded floor lights in the sunken plaza, which play out its role during night. They provide both the need for night-time lighting of the railway station square, and echo the atmosphere surrounding underground light commercial zone. Meanwhile, as an important part of the landscape design, square ground glowing at night, plays a highly dynamic part of the urban night scene.

Regarding the traditional classical garden, we have to both concern the static historical protection and dynamic development of traditional culture. Constantly explore the integration of history, environmental logic and contemporary artistic architecture. Establish the new function with involvement of the college traditional culture and the humanity environment which contains ancient scenery garden and architecture. The college can be used as local history museum, hall for famer, cultural tourist place, and such cultural education functions. Connect with communities and schools to organize students to visit and learn about the local history as well as painting or calligraphy events to be fully functioned as an educational base. Hold events that exhibit famous art work from time to time.

Plan the plant display, with consideration of protecting ancient famous plants and using the contemporary plants in a rational way. Meanwhile, add small trees and bushes to highlight the “graceful” quality of the college garden, expressing the poetic theme of the environment and architecture. For example: the rebuilt red plum garden matches the noble, self-reliance scholars with its own faithful symbolic meaning. Meanwhile, the various styles of the plants, together with the white wall, create the classic artistic conception of the Ke garden.
