ABOUT THE FILM

Originally released in 1981 as a collaboration between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Raiders of the Lost Ark redefined the possibilities of adventure cinema and launched actor Harrison Ford to legendary status.

Indiana Jones is the classic hero for this adventure set in the 1930s, as the quickwitted and hardy archaeologist goes on the hunt for the lost Ark of the Covenant. Often facing insurmountable odds, Indy always manages to succeed in the nick of time, joined by endearing companions and opposed by notorious villains.

With an impressive team of supporting actors including Karen Allen, John-Rhys Davies, Denholm Elliott, and Paul Freeman, combined with innovative special effects techniques by Industrial Light & Magic, Raiders of the Lost Ark has captured the imagination of moviegoers for generations and continues to inspire adventures yet to come.

Sarah Hicks’s versatile and vibrant musicianship has secured her place as an in-demand conductor across an array of genres, and as an educator, arranger, producer, writer, and speaker committed to creating connections through music. Her career has seen collaborations with diverse artists, from Hilary Hahn and Olga Kern to Smokey Robinson, Dessa , and Sting. In 2021, she collaborated with gamer DrLupo for an innovative liveplay project for Intel Gaming and in 2023, she premiered Rufus Wainwright ’s Want Symphonic at the BBC Proms.

A highly sought-after guest conductor, Hicks has worked extensively with orchestras in the US and abroad, including The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Pops, Toronto Symphony, WDR Funkhausorchester Köln, and Tokyo Philharmonic, among others. She currently serves as principal conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Live at Orchestra Hall series.

A specialist in film music and the film-in-concert genre, her live concert recordings of Coco and The Lion King: 30th Anniversary can be seen on Disney+ and her work on The Little Mermaid Live was broadcast on ABC. Her first major feature film credit, Renfield, was released in April 2023. Her film music concert with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, The Morricone Duel, was released as an album and broadcast worldwide, and has garnered over 200 million views on YouTube.

Since 2019, Hicks has acted as an advisor for Disney Music Group and is a consultant and frequent collaborator with Disney Concerts. She is also a frequent guest lecturer and was previously on faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music.

Hicks was born in Tokyo and raised in Honolulu. Trained on both the piano and the viola, she received her bachelor’s in composition from Harvard University and an artists’ degree in conducting from the Curtis Institute of Music. In her spare time, Hicks enjoys running, hiking, her Papillon, cooking (and eating) with her husband, traveling, and blogging.

In a career spanning more than six decades, John Williams has become one of America’s most accomplished and successful composers for film and the concert stage. He has served as music director and laureate conductor of the Boston Pops and maintains thriving artistic relationships with many of the world’s great orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. He remains one of our nation’s most distinguished and contributive musical voices.

Williams has composed the music and served as music director for more than 100 films. His 50-year artistic partnership with director Steven Spielberg has resulted in many of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and successful films, including Schindler’s List, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Indiana Jones films , Saving Private Ryan, Hook, Catch Me If You Can, The Adventures of Tintin, and Lincoln. Their latest collaboration, The Fabelmans, was scored in early 2022. Williams also composed the scores for all nine Star Wars films, the first three Harry Potter films, Superman, Far and Away, and Home Alone, among many others. In addition, Williams wrote the music for more than 200 television films alongside themes for NBC’s Meet the Press and PBS’s Great Performances.

In addition to his activity in film and television, Williams has composed numerous works for the concert stage and for many important cultural and commemorative events. He composed and arranged Air and Simple Gifts for the first inaugural ceremony of President Barack Obama in 2009. In the world of sports, Williams contributed musical themes for the 1984, 1988, and 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and the 1987 International Summer Games of the Special Olympics.

Williams has received a variety of prestigious awards, including the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, the Olympic Order, and numerous Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. He holds honorary degrees from 22 American universities, including Harvard University, The Juilliard School, and University of Southern California. He was awarded an honorary knighthood of the British Empire as one of the final awards approved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

This roster lists full-time members of The Cleveland Orchestra. The number and seating of musicians onstage varies depending on the piece being performed. Seating within the string sections rotates on a periodic basis.

Now in its second century, The Cleveland Orchestra, under the leadership of Music Director Franz Welser-Möst since 2002, is one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world. Year after year, the ensemble exemplifies extraordinary artistic excellence, creative programming, and community engagement. The New York Times has called Cleveland “the best in America” for its virtuosity, elegance of sound, variety of color, and chamber-like musical cohesion.

Founded by Adella Prentiss Hughes, the Orchestra performed its inaugural concert in December 1918. By the middle of the century, decades of growth and sustained support had turned it into one of the most admired globally.

The past decade has seen an increasing number of young people attending concerts, bringing fresh attention to The Cleveland Orchestra’s legendary sound and committed programming. More recently, the Orchestra launched several bold digital projects, including the streaming platform Adella, the podcast On a Personal Note, and its own recording label, a new chapter in the Orchestra’s long and distinguished recording and broadcast history. Together, they have captured the Orchestra’s unique artistry and the musical achievements of the Welser-Möst and Cleveland Orchestra partnership.

The 2024–25 season marks Franz Welser-Möst’s 23rd year as music director, a period in which The Cleveland Orchestra earned unprecedented acclaim around the world, including a series of residencies at the Musikverein in Vienna, the first of its kind by an American orchestra, and a number of acclaimed opera presentations.

Since 1918, seven music directors — Nikolai Sokoloff, Artur Rodziński, Erich Leinsdorf, George Szell, Lorin Maazel, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Franz Welser-Möst — have guided and shaped the ensemble’s growth and sound. Through concerts at home and on tour, broadcasts, and a catalog of acclaimed recordings, The Cleveland Orchestra is heard today by a growing group of fans around the world.

LATE SEATING

Guests with Pavilion seats who arrive after the start of the concert may be asked to wait outside the Pavilion until the first convenient pause in the music, after which our ushers will help you to your seats.

LAWN SEATING

Guests on the Lawn may bring their own chairs, but guests with high-backed chairs that obstruct others’ views may be asked to relocate to the rear of the Lawn. Rental chairs are available for a fee of $10 per evening. Tents, flags, balloons, or other structures that might obstruct views or present a hazard are prohibited. Open flames are also prohibited.

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEOGRAPHY & RECORDING

Audio recording, photography, and videography are prohibited during performances at Blossom. Photographs and videos can only be taken when the performance is not in progress. As a courtesy to others, please silence all electronic devices prior to the start of the concert.

SMOKING

All Blossom Music Festival events are presented in a smoke-free environment. Smoking or

vaping are not allowed anywhere on the grounds or in buildings once you have entered through the ticket gates. A smoking area is available outside the gates in a designated area of Parking Lot A.

Free tram service between the parking lots and Smith Plaza and the Pavilion is available on a continuous basis before and after each concert. The ADA Van Service can pick up at the Main Gate with service to the Tram Circle.
