About Melissa Mayer Melissa is a Durango native and brings experience and knowledge of the area to all of her clients. The moment you sit down and talk with Melissa, she makes you feel comfortable and confident. Melissa is a highly motivated, positive, honest and hardworking person. Melissa was born and raised in Durango and attended Fort Lewis College. Prior to practicing real estate, Melissa worked in sales for a local and national company. During this time, she was able to start investing in real estate and that is when she found her passion. After deciding to pursue real estate, she realized the value of understanding the loan process as well as the sales process. She worked as a mortgage broker for over 3 years before obtaining her real estate license in 2005. She has been awarded Rookie of the Year, Growth Achievement and was honored with the Spirit Award for her community mindedness. In her free time, she can be found riding her bike on the trails or roads surrounding Durango. She has been a volunteer coach for DEVO, Durango’s junior development mountain bike organization, has volunteered with Trails 2000, Fort Lewis College and was on The Iron Horse Bicycle Classic organizing committee, which her father and uncle started, and organizes fundraisers for various organizations. Aside from her local interests and commitments, Melissa travels around the country supporting other non-profit organizations and helping others build their businesses through coaching and training. About Chris Wherry Chris Wherry was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. At the age of 11, Chris began his first career when he fell in love with the sport of road cycling. His passion for the sport grew quickly and he ultimately spent 13 years as a top professional. His biggest win came in 2005 when he won the U.S. Professional Road Race Championships. That same year he moved to Durango after discovering the wonderful lifestyle in Southwest Colorado. Since retiring from racing in 2009, he has spent two years as a team director, traveling the world with one of the top professional cycling teams. Chris’ drive and determination as a cyclist has helped transition him to life off the bike. His attention to detail, personal and organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to almost any situation, make Chris the ideal person to handle an effective real estate transaction. Having always been a part of successful teams, it was only natural for him to join with his wife Melissa, to create an excellent new team.
