CHILDREN'S GARDEN OF LEARNING Mission Statement
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, Children’s Garden of Learning partners with children, families, and the Vail Valley community to provide an inquiry-based education for young learners. Teachers and children co-construct their learning experience through observation, intentional planning, creative environments, and active exploration of materials. Our goal is for each student to emerge as socially capable,creative citizens who love learning.

About Lauren Merrill Lauren, owner of Alpine Arts Center, has been living and working in the Vail Valley for 10 years. After growing up in New York and attending The University of Michigan’s School of Art and Design, Lauren accepted an art teaching position at Vail Mountain School and relocated to beautiful Vail, Colorado. Lauren describes her love of children and teaching by saying, “Working with children of all ages and abilities, K-12, was such a unique experience. Their growth and selfdiscovery is incredible to observe, and it helped me to grow as an artist as well.” From her teaching experiences, Lauren’s passion for drawing and Lauren painting painting soon expanded to also include mixed media, printmaking, batik, jewelry, clay hand building, and pottery wheel. After gaining five years of teaching experience and becoming more well rounded as an artist, Lauren decided to pursue her dream of opening an arts center for the Vail community. She is the founder and owner of Alpine Arts Center, located in Edwards, which has become a wonderful outlet for artists of all ages to explore their creativity. Alpine Arts Center offers art classes for toddlers through adults, drop-in activities, gallery shows, art events, Cocktails & Canvas classes, and a variety of community outreach programs. About The Event Vail valley resident, artist, and owner of Alpine Arts Center, Lauren Merrill, hosted a series of special art classes for the preschool students at Children’s Garden of Learning located in Vail, CO. The children, ages 2 to 5, created and named their own pieces of art, learning the technique through Lauren’s careful guidance. Parents, teachers and friends of Children’s Garden are invited to enjoy this special cocktail reception hosted by the Claggett/Rey Gallery to view and purchase these little masterpieces along with other silent and live auction offerings. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Garden of Learning Preschool... “Where Growing Minds Blossom.”
