Downtown Lee’s Summit is an example of the true power of our citizens to come together to make a difference. Just 30 short years ago, downtown was mostly vacant, but a group of volunteers saw the potential, rolled up their sleeves and got to work on the revitalization of the historic heart of our city. That hard work paid off. Downtown is now home to dozens of locallyowned specialty shops, dining, services and entertainment.
With over 100 days of family friendly events, downtown is where our community comes together. From the farmers market to parades to festivals to live music, there’s always something happening in downtown. You can spend the afternoon train watching from Howard Station Park, shopping at our boutiques or sampling craft beers at one of our three microbreweries. Downtown truly offers something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Downtown is home to a growing cultural arts scene, featuring events like live music, street theatre, Fourth Friday Art Walks and more. Public
Executive Director art has become part of the fabric of downtown, with murals and sculptures around every corner adding to the whimsy of the historic architecture and tree-lined sidewalks.
The future is bright for downtown. Construction has begun on a new multi-family housing development that will bring 400 new residents to downtown in the next few years. The Mayor has also announced plans to transform an entire city block across from City Hall. Conceptual designs include a new home for the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market, boutique hotel, conservatory, outdoor performance space and additional mixed-use commercial buildings.
