Put Yourself on the Map! The Lee’s Summit Street Map is still one of the most requested pieces from the Lee’s Summit Chamber by businesses, visitors, tourists, and new and current residents. Even with today’s technology, city maps are heavily used and are often the first form of advertising newcomers are exposed to. And because people refer to maps over and over again, your advertising gets repeated exposure, ensuring name recognition in the Lee’s Summit and tourism markets. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a key player on the Lee’s Summit city map that will be distributed for the next few years. Limited space available! 2,000 maps will be distributed through the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lee’s Summit. Member News & Events Matt Sogard Named Chief Executive Officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center HCA Midwest Health has appointed Matt Sogard, FACHE, as chief executive officer of Overland Park Regional Medical Center, effective April 9, 2018. Sogard will succeed Kevin J. Hicks, who has spent close to 40 years working in the healthcare field. Sogard has been with HCA for more than 13 years. He is currently chief executive officer of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, a position he has held since 2014. Under his leadership, the hospital has earned multiple national clinical quality honors, achieved high scores in employee, physician and patient satisfaction and experienced record growth. Sogard first joined HCA in 2005 and served as chief operating officer of the 600-bed Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in Denver, Colorado, immediately prior to coming to Kansas City. While in Denver, he led the hospital’s operations and drove service line growth agendas, helping the facility experience
tremendous growth. He directed a significant number of major capital projects, highlighted by development of a $150 million, state-of-the-art pediatric facility. In 2010 and 2011, Sogard was named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s national “Rising Stars: 25 Healthcare Leaders Under 40.” He earned a Master of Health Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa and a bachelor of science in biology from Iowa State. “Matt is an accomplished hospital administrator, widely respected as a consensus builder and is adept at creating authentic, credible and lasting collaborative relationships with community leaders and decision makers,” says M.L. Lagarde III, president, HCA Midwest Health. An active search for Sogard’s replacement at Lee’s Summit Medical Center will begin immediately. Lee’s Summit Medical Center’s Pat Kueny, chief operating officer, will act as interim chief executive officer.

Got Talent auditions set for April 19 with $6,000 in scholarships up for grabs this year Musicians, entertainers and performers will descend upon Lee’s Summit April 19 for a shot at thousands of dollars in scholarships. And from there – if past winners are any indication – the sky is the limit. Lee’s Summit CARES’ Got Talent – now in its 8th season – will again attract the best and brightest from all over the region, all vying for a share of $6,000 in scholarship prizes. The April 19 auditions will take place at MCC–Longview’s Cultural Arts Center and are open to all Kansas City area youth, 18 and older. Producers will select the top 20 acts the same day, moving them on to the main event on June 9 at the Lee’s Summit High School Performing Arts Center. Audition applications are online at LSTalent.com. “Got Talent just keeps getting more and more exciting every year,” Lee’s Summit CARES Executive Director Rachel Segobia said. “The event has grown to be one of the most popular in the community each year and we are thrilled to be able to offer scholarship money and an
amazing live performance that all families can come out and enjoy.” Got Talent is proud of its Kansas City area alumni who are busy proving themselves on a national level. Season 2 champion Blair Bryant, a member of the jazz band MQ5, has become a nationally recognized bass player with an album considered one of the Top 10 Best Jazz CDs of 2015 by talkingsmoothjazz.com. Season 3 ‘Crowd Pleaser’ winner Jordan Haas was selected to perform the National Anthem for the Kansas City Royals in 2015 and Season 4’s winning band, State Line Drive, recently released a CD (available on iTunes), are booking live performances all around the country and opened for country superstar Tate Stevens in 2016. Got Talent is the major fundraiser for Lee’s Summit CARES, a nonprofit community coalition that provides programs for youth substance use prevention, parenting and character development. The 30-year old nonprofit agency works to maintain a healthy and safe community for children, youth and families of the Greater Lee’s Summit area. For additional information or to make a tax-deductible donation, visit LSCares.org or call 816-347-3298.
Green Lantern Car Wash Changing Name Green Lantern Car Washes, with seven locations in the Midwest, will be changing its name to Charlie’s Car Wash in May. Customers of the car wash chain were invited to participate in a survey in which a large majority said they liked the idea of changing the name to honor Charlie and preferred the new name over the current name. Trace Walker, Charlie’s son and President of the company, stated, “Our family and staff are very happy and excited to be able to honor our dad, grandpa, founder and dear friend in this way.” “The company ownership will not be changing nor will the core services which our loyal customers have come to depend on,” said Marcia Stephenson, Marketing Manager. “We will be making changes to the logo and signage, and that process will begin in May.”
