Lee’s Summit Chamber Captures Two Honors at Annual Philly Awards
The Lee’s Summit Chamber has added two more pieces of hardware to its collection, as it was awarded two Philly Awards at the Nonprofit Connect 2018 Philly Awards banquet on December 13 at Boulevard Brewing Company. The quarterly Catalyst magazine was presented with a Silver Philly Award, while the 2018 Gala Royale invitation also received a Silver Philly. This annual Nonprofit Connect event recognizes outstanding marketing and communications pieces, and had over 160 entries from more than 90 area nonprofits. This is the second Philly for Catalyst – a magazine that has featured dozens of Lee’s Summit-area businesses, profiled many CEOs and business owners and offers cutting-edge photography and creativity while delivering a consistent and powerful message of doing business in Lee’s Summit. The award was given to Catalyst in the “Print/Electronic Magazine” category for nonprofits under $3 million in income. “The Philly Awards are a well-deserved recognition of the talent and care that go into creating the publications,” said Chamber President Blake Fry. Catalyst is produced quarterly by the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce. It is planned, collaborated and executed by the Chamber’s creative team, including Stephanie Kusek, director of communications, Heather Thompson, advertising account manager and Jordan Straits, creative coordinator. In addition to the two Philly Awards, the Chamber also received the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Missouri (CCEM) Award of Excellence in September for Catalyst.
Deadline for 2019 Partnership Program is December 7 As you plan for the upcoming year, consider the opportunities the Chamber provides in promoting your business. Members receive the exclusive opportunity to be a part of the partnership program, in addition to your membership investment. If you are already planning to participate in some of our events, a partnership package can save you money – and gives you great year-round exposure in our weekly e-blasts, Chamber Link newsletter, website, signage and more. You should have received a 2019 Partnership Packet in the mail, but if you’d like to request one, contact Blake Fry at bfry@lschamber.com or 816.524.2424. The deadline to sign up for a 2019 Partnership is Friday, December 7. You’re welcome to pay in 2018, or may request to be invoiced after the first of the year, depending on your preference.

SURVEYSAYS
We reached out to nonprofit chamber members and asked what their biggest need is this holiday season. Here's what they had to say:
Hope House –To make the holidays special for clients, we offer a holiday store as well as holiday food baskets. The holiday store provides new toys and gifts for both adults and children. Teens can be especially hard to buy for, so gift cards are a great way to ensure they get what they want for the holidays. Holiday food baskets include turkeys, ham and all of the “fixins” to make a great holiday meal. We are in need of support to ensure our core services as well as these special holiday gifts can continue.
Restoration House of Greater Kansas City – We believe in empowering victims of sex trafficking through the healing and recovery process. This holiday season we are in need of $25 Wal-Mart gift cards to purchase under garments and warm shoes for victims, and $25 QuikTrip gift cards for gas to transport the ladies in our program to emergency room visits, doctor’s appointments, therapy sessions, etc.
Developing Potential, Inc. – At the holidays, we try to provide a wonderful experience for our individuals through our 12 Days of Caring campaign. Many of the items we need are basic necessities such as coats, gloves, socks, hats and clothing. We try to meet these needs for our individuals in the cold weather months as well as give them something extra special to make their holiday season bright!
Lee’s Summit Social Services – If every Chamber member would donate an hour of time, a few dollars, or one canned good, think of how many lives that could impact. Our needs are ever present, but we know that our community is always there to help when possible. Happy holidays!
Rachel House – Many of the men and women we serve live below the federal poverty guideline. We help them out by providing a $5 QuikTrip gift card to defray their expenses and encourage them to return for continued services. To put us in a position to serve 3,500 clients in 2019, we need to collect 1,500 cards. Cards can be mailed or delivered to 1260 NE Windsor Drive, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
Lee’s Summit Kiwanis Club – At the top of our holiday list is recruiting new, active members. In any volunteer organization, the more people willing to give their time and effort results in a larger impact on our community. The Lee’s Summit Kiwanis Club supports many projects in our community. We have been in Lee’s Summit for over 50 years and a Chamber member for over ten years.
Claudia’s Closet – At this point, our biggest need is a few more volunteers that would be able to help on a consistent basis. We need people who have a heart for others, would love to volunteer in a fun shop setting, or people who love fashion and would like to help put together styles. We could also use help to plan events and coordinate volunteer schedules. page 9
