Missouri Chamber Launches New Small Business Health Care Program Many small businesses in our community continue to search for affordable health coverage options. That’s why the Lee’s Summit Chamber is proud to partner with the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry to create a new health program that offers potential savings to businesses with 50 or fewer eligible employees. This new program is called the Missouri Chamber Federation Benefit Plan. It uses an innovative structure that enables smaller employers to join together to share in the overall claims risk. This creates a larger self-funded pool providing greater stability and financial protection backed by Anthem’s stop loss coverage. This is called a multiple employer welfare arrangement, or MEWA. We encourage our members who have 2-50 eligible employees to look into this new health coverage option. It is possible that many employers in our business community could find a cost savings by participating in the Missouri Chamber Federation Benefit Plan. This MEWA plan is only available to current Chamber members in good standing. To obtain a rate quote, Lee’s Summit Chamber members are encouraged to contact one or more of the approved brokers of the Missouri Chamber Federation Benefit Plan that are also fellow members of the Lee’s Summit Chamber. These Lee’s Summit Chamber members are: • Cowell James Forge Insurance Group, LLC 816.471.4245 – cjfig.com • Employee Benefit Design 816.463.1890 – myedbenefits.com • Heritage Companies 816.322.6350 – heritagekc.com If you find that the Missouri Chamber Federation Benefit Plan is not the right fit for your business, we encourage you to explore other options with our members that offer health coverage plans. A listing of those members is available in our online membership directory at LSChamber.com. Contact Blake Fry with questions at 816.524.2424 or bfry@lschamber.com.

Member News & Events LSEDC’s Hamilton Wins 40 Under 40 Award in Economic Development The Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council is pleased to announce that Jessica Hamilton, LSEDC’s Director of Community and Investor Relations, has been selected as a winner in the economic development profession’s 40 Under 40 awards, the only program of its kind recognizing young talent in the industry. An independent five-member selection committee chose winners from more than 170 qualified candidates based on their accomplishments and contributions to the economic development industry. The program was managed by Development Counsellors International (DCI), a New York-based firm that specializes in economic development marketing, and Jorgenson Consulting, a leading national executive search firm serving organizations in economic and community development industries. “Jessica successfully re-launched LSEDC’s Business Retention and Expansion program in 2017, with a specific focus on helping local businesses solve pain points
relating to workforce development,” said LSEDC President Rick McDowell. “This award recognizes Jessica’s hard work and vision.” Since joining LSEDC two years ago, Hamilton launched several programs, including HR Roundtable, local National Manufacturing Day activities, and an online hiring portal to connect local businesses with potential employees and interns. “The 40 Under 40 Award is designed to identify the economic development profession’s rising stars. These young economic development professionals represent the future of our industry,” said Julie Curtin, president of DCI’s economic development practice. “The selection committee had a challenge selecting only 40 winners, but we are delighted by the smarts, initiative and gamechanging mindset represented in these finalists. Economic development is in good hands with these young leaders, and Jessica Hamilton is certainly no exception.” DCI and Jorgenson officially announced the winners on January 27 at an awards reception during the International Economic Development Council Leadership Summit in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.
