Help Make Jackson County Workforce Ready Jackson County is one of 15 counties in the state of Missouri that is not certified as a Work Ready Community. What is a Work Ready Community? To ensure employee skills meet workforce needs, ACT has created a nationwide Work Ready Communities Initiative. Being a WorkReady Community requires a certain number of employers in the county to indicate their support for the ACT WorkKeys Assessment. ACT has developed another test for high school seniors to take. It’s called the ACT WorkKeys Assessment. The test is in three parts: applied math, graphic literacy, and workplace documents. These three tests provide an accurate representation of a person’s ability to read and understand workplace documents, analyze workplace graphics and apply math to workplace problems – all skills needed by employers today. This test is being used by the Lee’s Summit School District, and other school districts in our area. By taking the WorkKeys Assessment, a person can earn a National Career Readiness Certificate, NCRC for short. This is a nationwide test. Right now, there are 27 states who are 100 percent Certified as Work Ready. There are 4,545,577 NCRCs already earned. As employers, we need to understand what these scores mean, just as we understand what ACT scores mean. It does no good for students in our area to take this test, if we don’t recognize it. Two hundred and ten employers in Jackson County are needed in order to reach our goal. We want you to add your business’ or organizations’ name to a list of other Jackson County businesses who have already done the same. This is important even if you are not hiring or don’t plan to hire in the near future, and even if you only have one employee. By adding your name to the list of businesses, you are indicating that you recognize the ACT WorkKeys NCRC (test) and support the Work Ready Community goal. Visit workreadycommunities.org to add your business name to the list. It’s free and only takes a few minutes to complete. Contact Matt Baird at mbaird@lschamber.com with questions or for more information.
