CLEAR ALIGNERS: FINDING COMMON TRAITS IN SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES

This presentation examines and compares a broad range of malocclusions that have been successfully treated with the Invisalign* System. The goal is to identify common traits among them, in order that clinicians may better understand which malocclusions may benefit from clear aligners as a treatment modality. At the conclusion of the lecture, attendees should: 1. Be aware of the growing use of clear aligners. 2. Appreciate a wide range of malocclusions that have been successfully treated with the appliance. 3. Better understand the strengths and limitations of the force system created by clear aligners. Dr. Clark D. Colville, DDS, MS ✝ Dr. Clark Colville is a 1993 graduate from the orthodontic program of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and maintains a private practice in Seguin, Texas. CONTEMPORARY ORTHODONTICS – THE ROLE OF APPEARANCE AND ESTHETICS IN DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PLANNING

In restorative dentistry, aesthetics is discussed in terms of anterior tooth display and smile design. To orthodontists and oral surgeons it is the facial profile. Interdisciplinary treatment in dentistry has progressed enormously in the past two decades, with collaboration between dentists and all the specialties of dentistry resulting in superior results compared to those without collaboration. Our diagnosis and treatment planning vision can now expand to include both broader appearance issues and microesthetic issues such as tooth shape and form. With the assessment and treatment of other dimensions of smile and facial esthetics, the target for the patient may be the ultimate dentofacial esthetic outcome. This lecture will also introduce the imaginative use of new technologies for diagnosis, patient communication, and interdisciplinary communication and documentation. Dr. David M. Sarver, DMD, MS Dr. David Sarver received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 from Auburn University. He then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1977 and was named by ODK as the Outstanding Professional Student in the Medical Center. He obtained his post-doctoral master's degree and completed his certification in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina in 1979. He then opened his practice in Birmingham in 1979. Dr. Sarver is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a member of the Angle Society of Orthodontists and currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina. In addition to his commitment to his private practice, Dr. Sarver has been very active in research and academic writing. He has authored the orthodontic text, “Esthetic Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery” and co-authored “Contemporary Treatment of Dentofacial Deformity.” Additionally, Dr. Sarver is a co-author of the text “Contemporary Orthodontics”, the most widely used orthodontic text in the world. Dr. Sarver's work was featured on the Today Show in a segment by Dr. Christine Dumas and Katie Couric. Dr. Sarver’s award-winning research was also highlighted on The View in a segment with medical reporter Dr. Christine Dumas. Most recently, Dr. Sarver was named the 2010 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by Leadership Vestavia Hills. He and his wife, Valerie, have three children - Dave, Leigh and Suzanne. &

Winning the Battle for Customers on Google The Latest Search Engine Marketing Strategies to Beat Your Competition on The Web Every business and organization knows how important it is to be found easily in Google but not everyone knows how to do it. Just how do you make sure that you get found online before your competition? The key to getting found on Google is a combination of search engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. This presentation will give you an easy-to-understand grasp on: • Why SEO is of massive importance to the success of your business or organization on a local and broad-ranging scale; • How changing the keywords and content on your website to what searchers are looking for will get you more qualified visitors than your competition; • How keeping active in blogs and social media will ensure that your ranking in Google grows; • How to remain relevant and visible online by dedicating more thought into your website (and not more time); • How to determine whether to handle SEO in-house or to hire an expert to ensure your success; • How to setup a basic PPC campaign and tracking to ensure you achieve return on your investment. Dave Delage is not your typical young marketing professional. At age 15, he was running one of Ottawa's largest pre-Internet online communities. By 25, he was Marketing Director of an online network comprised of a dozen e-commerce websites. By the age of 30, he had worked on web development and web marketing projects with clients and partners including Casio, Suzuki, Microsoft, The Office of the Prime Minister, and the United Nations. As the Senior Web Marketing Manager at Marketing Breakthroughs since 2007, this web analytics and web marketing specialist develops marketing programs, e-commerce, and communications activities for numerous product lines, services, and events. Dave’s management experience extends from high-tech to the public sector. PLAQUE CONTROL AND CLINICAL OUTCOMES – THE ORTHODONTICS CONUNDRUM

The orthodontic case represents a true conundrum for plaque control – greatest need, hardest to achieve. Various technologies have emerged to improve at-home oral hygiene via chemical or mechanical means, and emerging research suggests that combination approaches may provide even greater oral health benefits. Optimal plaque control may be achieved, even with complex case types including orthodontia. This session will review the state of the science behind combination oral hygiene therapy, specifically focusing on case studies and clinical trials research involving orthodontia and related complex cases. Practical implications for all practices will be discussed. Dr. Robert W. Gerlach, DDS, MPH✝ Dr. Gerlach is Research Fellow in Global Oral Care at The Procter & Gamble Company, Cincinnati, Ohio, where he is responsible for studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of oral care products worldwide. Dr. Gerlach’s clinical research includes initiatives in the areas of caries prevention, periodontal therapy, and esthetic dentistry. His research has lead to delivery systems for vital bleaching, new dentifrice formulations, and novel research methods. As a public health dentist, Dr. Gerlach’s experience spans government, practice, industry and academics, including contemporary teaching or research appointments at prominent dental schools. Dr. Gerlach holds patents on important products and methods, and to date, his research has been reported in over 300 manuscripts and published abstracts.
