Chickin’ Fixin’ Contest: Finger lickin’ good at Osyka Fall Fest WING DIVISION PROFESSIONAL STATUS WINNERS. Residents from Osyka and the surrounding communities competed in a chicken’ fixin’ contest during the Osyka Fall Fest Saturday, October 1. The contest featured professional judges and was sponsored by the Osyka Civic Club, Sanderson Farms and the Mississippi Poultry Association. Wing Division professional status winners from left are Dan Speed or Need for Speed; 3rd place, Mike Lambert of Smokin’ Sharks and Hot Rocks; 2nd place, and Mark Shepherd of Thin Blue BBQ; 1st place. ENTREE’ AWARD WINNERS. Local residents competed in an on-site chicken’ fixin’ contest during the Osyka Fall Fest held Saturday, October 1. The contest featured professional judges and was sponsored by the Osyka Civic Club, Sanderson Farms and the Mississippi Poultry Association. Entree’ Division professional status winners from left are Shannon Sanders of Big Six BBQ of Kentwood; 3rd place, Mark Shepherd of Thin Blue BBQ; 2nd place, and Faron Miley of Four Friends BBQ; 1st place.

BEST LOOKIN’ COOKIN’. Chefs from all over the local area competed in an on-site chicken cooking contest during the Osyka Fall Fest Saturday, October 1. The contest featured professional judges and was sponsored by the Osyka Civic Club, Sanderson Farms and the Mississippi Poultry Association. Best Lookin’ Cookin’ trophy winner was team Southern Heat BBQ of Kentwood, who was also awarded the best decorated kitchen. Shown from left are Ken Womack and his daughter, Samantha Womack.

PORK RIB AWARD WINNERS. Local area residents competed in an on-site chicken’ fixin’ contest during the Osyka Fall Fest held Saturday, October 1. The contest featured professional judges and was sponsored by the Osyka Civic Club, Sanderson Farms and the Mississippi Poultry Association. Pork Rib Division Amateur status winners from left are Ken Womack and his daughter, Samantha Womack of Southern Heat BBQ of Kentwood; 3rd place, Richard Swartz and Tanner Bond of Rib Sharks; 2nd place, and Dan Speed of Need for Speed; 1st place.

OSYKA “CHICKIN’ FIXIN” CHICKEN CHAMP. Residents competed in an onsite chicken cooking contest during the Osyka Fall Fest Saturday, October 1. The Chickin’ Fixin’ contest was sponsored by the Osyka Civic Club, Sanderson Farms and the Mississippi Poultry Association. Chicken Champ and Grand Champion Mark Shepherd of Thin Blue BBQ is shown receiving his plaque from Osyka Civic Club member Kim Wall. Shepherd also received a monetary prize and a stainless steel grill donated by Statewide Pools.

LEGEND HONORED WITH COUNTRY MUSIC MARKER. Osyka Native T. Tommy Cutrer was honored Saturday, October 1 during a Mississippi Country Music Trail ceremony with the unveiling of a marker in his honor during the town’s annual fall festival. The marker, which is sponsored by the Mississippi Development Authority Tourism Division, is similar to the state’s Blue’s Trail. Cutrer died in 1998 at the age of 74.

2011 OSYKA OUTSTANDING SENIOR CITIZEN. Eugene Cutrer was honored by the Osyka Civic Club Saturday, October 1 from center stage during the annual Osyka Fall Fest. Cutrer was nominated with letters from his family and selected by judges. He was presented the award by Osyka Civic Club members Liz Spears and Debbie Crawford.
