Today, Baker is home to approximately 13,800 people. While the city grew significantly between 1970 and 1980, Baker’s population has been relatively stable since the 1980s. The racial composition changed significantly between 1970 to 1990 as the community changed from predominantly white to predominantly African American. The percent of children five and under decreased from 12% to 7% while the percent of adults 65 and over increased from 5% to 11% between 1970 and 2010. This shows that the community has become a retirement community over time. The following shows population and other selected demographics from census sources.
