INTRODUCTION
THE SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE Setting the Standard for Intercollegiate Athletics in Swimming and Diving
Over the course of several decades, the Southeastern Conference has been a constant force in swimming and diving. Last season, after finishing fourth for four consecutive years, Texas A&M earned the highest finish in the SEC, taking third at the NCAA DI Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Georgia, the defending champions, finished just 40 points behind the Aggies to take fourth. Four other teams manged to finish in the top 25. Missouri and Kentucky finished backto-back at 13th and 14th, respectively. Auburn earned 18th place, and Tennessee rounded out the top 25 for t he SEC, finishing 22nd. The conference has placed 101 women’s teams in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships, and the SEC has compiled 251 individual NCAA titles. At the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Alabama each earned spots within the top 10 teams at the event, marking the 49th consecutive season in which the SEC has placed at least one men’s team in the top 10. Since 1969, 136 SEC teams have finished in the NCAA’s top 10.

• The SEC has had 11 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships titles: Tennessee - 1978; Florida - 1983 & 1985; Auburn - 1997, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009.
• The SEC has had 14 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships titles: Florida – 1982, 2010; Georgia – 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013, 2014, 2016; Auburn – 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007.
• 2016 marked the 49th consecutive year that the SEC has had at least one team in the top 10 of the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. The SEC has placed a total of 132 teams in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships since 1969.
• With Texas A&M earning the tird spot at the 2017 NCAA Championships, an SEC school has finished on the podium in the Championships since 1999.
• SEC athletes in men’s swimming & diving have captured a total of 177 individual NCAA titles. Caeleb Dressel of Florida set American, NCAA and world records in the 100 fly (43.58) and 100 free (40.00) at the 2017 NCAA Championships, while Chase Kalisz broke the American, NCAA, and world record in the 400 IM (3:33.42).
• Since 1982, the SEC has placed 101 teams in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships. • 251 individual NCAA titles have been captured by SEC athletes.

HIGHLIGHTS • At SEC Championships, LSU had thirteen swimmers and divers appeared in championship finals for the Tigers. • Freshman Juan Celaya-Hernandez stepped on campus and immediately proved he’s the best men’s diver in program history. The Mexico native set school records in all three events at the SEC Championships. Celaya-Hernandez went on to to be crowned SEC Champion on platform and earned silver medals on both springboards. At NCAA’s he finished in the top 10 in two events, claiming third on three-meter and ninth on one-meter. As a result, Celaya-Hernandez earned NCAA 1st Team All-America Honors on three-meter and NCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors on one-meter. The freshman is also the second man to win the SEC Championship on platform in program history, joining Greg Triefenbach, who won the title in 1992. Celaya-Hernandez is also the 6th diver in program history to get All-SEC honors, including the 4th diver to get SEC Freshman Diver of the Year Honors.
• Sophomore Lizzie Cui continued to forge her place in LSU women’s diving history. At the SEC Championships, she broke the school record on three-meter en route to a second place finish. Cui also finished fourth on one-meter and 13th on platform. At NCAA’s Cui was able to crack the top-five on one meter, where she dove to a fifth place finish. Cui also took 17th on both three-meter and platform. Cui was able to garner 1st team NCAA All-America honors on onemeter. The Auckland native also earned 1st team All-SEC honors, becoming the 11th woman in program history to crack the All-SEC team. • Andrew Suchla finished his career with NCAA Honorable Mention AllAmerica honors on one-meter after finishing 14th overall at the NCAA Championships. • The relay team of Karl Luht, Silas Dejean, Logan Rysemus, and Jake Markham broke the school records in both the 200 and 400 medley relays. • Newcomer Karl Luht was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team after securing a spot in a championship final in the 100 backstroke at the conference meet.
