2019 SEC Men’s Outdoor Champions

2019 CHAMPIONS

Pole Vault Champion: Mondo Duplantis High Jump Champion: JuVaughn Harrison Triple Jump Champion: Christian Miller

Fayetteville, Ark. – The LSU men’s track and field team claimed its 23rd Southeastern Conference outdoor championship on May 11, 2019, in Fayetteville, Ark., with 105 points. “I’m really proud of this team,” head coach Dennis Shaver said. “The chemistry and commitment that these guys have made to make a run at this championship is special. It’s been a while since we won one of these, but we’ve been in the hunt many other times. We’re really proud of how we are always in the mix.” Head coach Dennis Shaver’s 4x400-meter relay team of Dorian Camel, Correion Mosby, Jaron Flournoy and Tyler Terry finished second in the event to unseat defending champion Florida, 10595, and claim the Tigers’ first outdoor SEC title since 1990. The 4x400 closed out the meet with a season-best time of 3:02.09. Individual SEC titles at the three-day meet were earned by JuVaughn Harrison (high jump, 2.24m, 7-4 1/4), Christian Miller (triple jump, 16.16m, 53-0 1/4) and Mondo Duplantis (pole vault, 6.00m, 19-8 1/4), while the 4x100-meter relay (38.85) led the charge for the Purple and Gold early on the final day. The men’s 4x100 meter relay was made up of Kary Vincent Jr., Akanni Hislop, Correion Mosby, and Jaron Flournoy; it marked the fourth-straight season that the LSU men claimed the 4x100 meter relay SEC title. Miller and Duplantis earned their individual titles on the final day of the meet to jumpstart LSU’s championship run. Duplantis’ clearance of 19’ 8.25” broke Lawrence Johnson’s collegiate record in the outdoor pole vault that had stood since 1996. Miller was LSU’s first SEC triple jump champion since all-time great Walter Davis achieved the feat in 2002. Harrison was LSU’s High Point Scorer of the Meet with a total of 18 points between his high jump title and long jump runnerup finish. Jake Norris (hammer throw), Rayvon Grey (long jump), Da’Quan Bellard (triple jump), Damion Thomas (110 meter hurdles), Tyler Terry (200 meters/400 meters), Raymond Kibet (400 meters), Jaron Flournoy (100 meters/200 meters), Akanni Hislop (100 meters), Christian Boyd (400 meter hurdles), and Correion Mosby (200 meters) all scored individually for the Tigers to contribute to the team title.
