HIGHLIGHTS

• At 2021 SEC Championships, LSU had 15 swimmers and divers appear in championship finals for the Tigers.

• Veteran senior Juan Celaya-Hernandez continued to show that he is the best diver in school history. The Mexico native showed his dominance on the grand stage at SEC’s by claiming a bronze medal on one-meter and silver on three-meter.

At the NCAA Championships, Celaya-Hernandez earned NCAA FirstTeam All-America honors on both springboards after earning bronze on one-meter and on three-meter. The senior also earned NCAA All-America Honorable Mention honors on platform after finishing 13th overall.

Scoring 36 of the points 68 points for the men at the NCAA Championships, Celaya-Hernandez led the Tigers to their highest place finish at the NCAA Championships since 2003.

Brooks Curry, 2020 Tokyo Oympian, qualified for three events at NCAA’ in the 50-, 100-, and 200-yard freestyle. He finished in 10th place in the 50-free, seventh in the 100-free and sixth in the 200-free. WIth his two appearances in championship finals, he earned two All-America statuses, along with an All-America honorable mention for finishing 10th.

Montserrat Gutierrez Lavenant finished the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a consolation win on the three-meter springboard. She earned an Honorable Mention for the All-American honors, doled out to competitors with a finish between ninth and 16th.

• Anne Tuxen made an appearance in the 2021 NCAA postseason competition, placing 34th on three-meter springboard. She qualified for the 2020 version, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented her and others from attending due to health and safety concerns.

• Freshman Mitch Mason broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke after breaking it once already in the 2021 edition of the SEC Champiosnhips. At NCAA’s, he almost broke his own school record again, but was three-hundreths of a second shy.
