ALUMNI HOMECOMING TAILGATE
ULS alumni and their families celebrated Homecoming at the Cub Complex during a Nov. 5 tailgate hosted by the ULS Foundation. More than 300 guests enjoyed food catered by Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux and activities for children. Alumni were invited to stay for the announcement of the 2021 Cubs Hall of Distinction and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees while cheering on the Cubs against Mentorship STEAM Academy.

Reunions
The Class of 2011 reunited on August 21 for their 10-year reunion. The class met for a tour of the school in the morning, and later that evening, they enjoyed a get together at Uncle Earls’ bar.
The Classes of 1990 and 1991 gathered the weekend of October 23-24 for their 30 and 31-year reunions. Both classes hosted a tailgate prior to the UHS vs. Parkview game, and on Saturday, the Class of 1990 met for a tour of the school. On Saturday evening, the classes hosted a party at Rouj Creole restaurant.
The Class of 2001 reunited the weekend of November 5-6. The class gathered at the UHS Alumni Homecoming Tailgate on Friday night and on Saturday, they toured the school. Saturday evening, the class met for a party at the Oasis restaurant. The Class of 1971 reunited the weekend of November 19-20 for their 50-year reunion. On Saturday they gathered for a party at the home of Bill and Bunny Hines.
CUBS 2022 INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED AT UHS HOMECOMING GAME
ACADEMIC HALL OF DISTINCTION INDUCTEES
The ULS Hall of Distinction honors graduates who have distinguished themselves through their chosen professions and through character and community involvement that reflects favorably upon the school. ULS is proud to welcome Dr. Catherine Bushnell, PhD (’67) and Shauna Ryder Diggs, MD (’87) as its newest members of the Hall of Distinction.
Shauna Ryder Diggs, MD (’87) is a leading dermatologist specializing in cosmetic and laser dermatology. She is the founder of CosmedicDerm, a dermatology practice in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and has more than 20 years of experience in her field. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s distinguished Inteflex program, she completed an intensive and accelerated program of combined undergraduate and medical training in just seven years. Dr. Diggs also completed the University of Michigan Medical Center Internal Medicine internship and dermatology residency programs and served as the first-ever medical director of the Detroit Medical Center Advanced Laser Treatment Center. Recognized as an expert in the field, Dr. Diggs has been featured as a guest on Fox News and in the pages of Styleline, The Detroit News, and The Detroit Free Press.
Catherine Bushnell, PhD (’67) earned a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the American University in Washington, D.C., and received postdoctoral training in neurophysiology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She then spent 12 years at the University of Montreal and 16 years as the Harold Griffith Professor of Anesthesia at McGill University before returning to the NIH in 2012. She has been president of the Canadian Pain Society and treasurer and press editor-in-chief of the International Association for the Study of Pain. Dr. Bushnell is currently a counselor for the Society for Neuroscience. Among her honors are the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Pain Society and the Frederick Kerr Basic Science Research Award from the American Pain Society. Her research interests include forebrain mechanisms of pain processing, psychological modulation of pain, and neural alternations in chronic pain patients.
ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES
The ULS Athletic Hall of Fame honors graduates who earned one or more letters in a varsity sport while at ULS, have gained distinction through superlative performance as athletes, and have established personal reputations for character and citizenship that reflect favorably upon the school. ULS celebrates the induction of Jason Ledbetter, MD (’90) and Mark Shoptaugh, MD (’76) into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jason Ledbetter, MD (’90) was a four-year varsity athlete in football, basketball, and track, earning all-parish, all-district, and all-state honors. He was awarded the prestigious Quitman Long award upon graduation and attended Millsaps College, where he continued his athletic career as a linebacker for the football team. He was active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Ledbetter continued his education at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency in internal medicine in Baton Rouge. He practices medicine in North Texas with the Privia Medical group, a physician-led, multispecialty medical group of top independent physicians. Mark Shoptaugh, MD (’76) was a three-sport athlete, excelling in cross-country, basketball, and tennis. A state title winner for crosscountry, he was awarded best defensive player for the basketball team and earned numerous awards and honors as a tennis player. After a stellar athletic career and being awarded the Quitman Long Award, Dr. Shoptaugh earned a tennis scholarship from LSU. In college, he continued to break several records and earned individual and team honors not only at LSU, but also within the Southeastern Conference and during NCAA tournaments. Following graduation from LSU, Dr. Shoptaugh attended the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is a highly regarded anesthesiologist and serves as medical director at the Surgical Specialty Center in Baton Rouge.
