Unveiling of Vick Field

U-High has been an important part of LSU and Baton Rouge for 106 years. And for many folks, memories of their school days at U-High evoke some of the fondest memories of their lives.

The ULS Foundation is honored to recognize one such family, the Vick Family. The naming of the U-High Baseball Field was a long-awaited celebration and culmination of the dedication of many volunteers and the generosity of many donors to the Future of Effective Education Capital Campaign.

On Thursday, April 15, Michael Breard, chairman of the University Laboratory School Foundation welcomed guests and members of the Vick family to the unveiling of Vick Field. On hand for the presentation were co-chairs, Richard Lipsey ‘57 and Brett Furr ‘79.

The ULS Foundation is humbled and honored by the extraordinary investment made by Dr. Mac Vick, Class of 1958, and Dr. Randy Vick, Class of 1985, which will impact current and future generations of Cubs. The Vick Family has been part of U-High for more than 65 years and LSU for more than 80 years.

Mila Sexton, senior director of development met with the Vick’s and captured their inspiration for making this gift. “Dr. Maurice Vick, Sr. and Whit Vick were my parents and Randy’s grandparents. Both were teachers, my father chemistry at LSU, my mother History and Social Studies at U-High. They were very fond of baseball and had seats #1 and #2 at the old Alex Box Stadium. It was my father’s favorite place. Randy recognized the opportunity to both assist the U-High athletic program and to honor my parent’s contributions to LSU and U-High by naming the U-High baseball complex Vick Field,” shared Maurice (Mac) Vick, M.D. “We are proud of their lives and accomplishments and forever grateful to U-High and LSU for the education we have received. Best wishes and go Cubs! If you haven’t seen it, check it out. It is beautiful,” added Stephen (Randy) Vick, M.D.

University Laboratory School is extremely fortunate to have such generous alumni, parents, and grandparents. The Vick family’s leadership investment enables us to sustain the high-caliber education students deserve and the Cub Community expects. We are grateful to the Vick family for their years of loyal investment and support and are proud that it will be forever commemorated with the naming of the U-High baseball field.

“The Vick family understands the importance of school spirit and camaraderie and investing in such a meaningful way. Philanthropic support like theirs is critical to fostering our Cubs’ sense of pride in their school, their classmates and teammates, and themselves,” shared Sexton.
