Richard Lipsey ’57 recently reigned as the king of the Washington, D.C., Mardi Gras Ball, which took place in January 2022.

Elizabeth Feltner ‘17 recently competed in the final round of the Jeopardy College Championship, which aired in February 2022 in national syndication. Elizabeth is a senior at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts majoring in political science and business.

Lila Ton ’17 graduated from LSU this spring with a BS in Physics and was a University Medalist. During her time at LSU, Lila was the recipient of the Anna & Willie Austin Scholarship and was featured on the LSU Department of Physics & Astronomy website, which highlighted her research on Quantum Optics.

Christian Harris ’19, a former University of Alabama inside linebacker, was recently selected by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

In memory of Barton Lee Frye ’65

August 2, 1947 – March 11, 2022

Dr. Frye was a graduate of University High School, LSU, and LSU Dental School. He earned an athletic scholarship to play football at LSU where he lettered for 3 years. He played in the 1968 Sugar Bowl and the inaugural Peach Bowl in 1969. During his senior year, he was selected by his team mates as the 1968 Permanent Team Captain. Dr. Frye was inducted into the University High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.

During his time at UHS, Dr. Frye was a multiyear letter winner in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. He earned a total of 11 varsity letters, voted most valuable football player, chosen All-District 1st team, All-Area, and All-State in Football. Dr. Frye was a key member of the track and field team where he won multiple events.

In 2019, the All State Sugar Bowl recognized Dr. Frye as one of the 150 "Stars of the Sugar Bowl" for his game saving-tackle in the final seconds in the LSU win over Wyoming. Dr. Frye practiced dentistry for 30 years.

Baby Cubs and Married Cubs

Connor Miller ‘11 and wife 4 Shelby welcomed a daughter, Annie Frances, on January 18, 2022.

Ally Johnson Bayard ’09 and husband welcomed a daughter, Amelia, on December 9, 2020. Ally recently opened her own counseling business, Refinery Counseling Center, LLC.

Hannah Gale ’15 and Will Keller ’15 were married on May 14, 2022, in Baton Rouge. They will reside in Houston.

Julia Leonard ’15 and Mills McClendon were married on November 27, 2022, in St. Francisville. They will reside in Baton Rouge.

MEMORABILIA

Thank you to Anne Welch, daughter of John B. Kent, Jr. ‘48 for donating her father’s U-High memorabilia to the ULS Foundation. Treasures from this gift to the school include yearbooks from 1946-1948, a 1948 graduation invitation, annual senior play program and pictures of Mr. Kent’s classmates. We are grateful to have these memories to share with many generations of the Cub community.

Mr. Stephen George, Class of 1960 and grandparent of current senior Virginia Moore, donated a 1945 Cub yearbook.
