Brad Bella Memorial Achievement Award

Brad Bella had a great love for family, the outdoors and baseball. Brad is forever remembered for his beautiful heart, radiant smile and contagious joy. To further his memory and in support of future students, a memorial scholarship was established in Brad’s name by his family and friends. This year’s recipient is Jake Davenport.
Yancey W. White ’80 & Diane Rene Upp Simino ’79 Memorial Scholarship
In 1981, the Yancey W. White Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of the 1980 graduate. Yancey played football, served on Student Council and was a member of the National Honor Society among many other activities. The Diane Rene’ Upp Simino Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of the 1979 graduate. Diane was a cheerleader, member of HiY, Choir, Art and Key Clubs and National Honor Society. She was chosen as queen of the Winter Formal as well as serving as football sponsor and basketball manager. This year’s recipients are Will Wharton and Lanie Grace Everett.
Tony Fertitta ‘98 Memorial Scholarship
Tony Fertitta was a 13-year senior, member of the Art Club, captain of the football team and a member of the class of 1998. Tony is remembered for the joy which he brought to school every day. This year’s recipients are Nils Newhauser and Will Safford
Christian Price Baer '00 Memorial Scholarship
Christian Price Baer, a 2000 graduate, was a 13-year senior, member of the UHS choir and was very active in the community. This scholarship was established as a standing memory of Christian and all that he represented. This year’s recipient is Hannah Traylor.
leonard l. kilgore jr memorial scholarship
The Leonard L. Kilgore, Jr, Memorial Scholarship fund was established by the family, friends and professional associates of Dr. Kilgore who was the principal of ULS from 1965 to 1974. This year’s recipient is Eryn Kennedy.
Jordan Irene Donnelly ’08 Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in Jordan’s memory in 2009 by family, Scholarship was established by family, friends and classmates of the Class of 2008. Jordan had a giving heart, was a great student and a friend to everyone. This year’s recipient is Madelynn Bonvillain.
Cristin Gill Viguerie ’91 Memorial Scholarship
The Cristin Gill Viguerie ’91 Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends. Cristin began at University Laboratory School in first grade. She was part of four generations of the Gill family to receive diplomas from U-High. Her three sons, Hayden, Dylan and Jack attend University Laboratory School. This year’s recipient is Kyra Cormier.
The Coach Bill Mathews ’65 Baseball Scholarship was established in 2018 by friends and family to honor one of U-High’s greats. This scholarship is provided to a graduating senior who has completed four years as a baseball player and exhibits admirable and unquestionable moral character both in school and in their community. This year’s recipient is Nate Bush.
Scates Family Award Honoring Robert "Bob" F. Scates, Jr.
Family and friends established this award to honor Bob Scates, who truly loved athletics at ULS. Bob volunteered at many athletic events at the ticket gate. He attended the athletic games of several athletes from U-High even after their graduation and continued to follow past and current students through media outlets. This year’s recipients are two-sport athletes, Damon Morton and Taylor Bush.
Carolyn Kent Rovee-Collier '59 Memorial Scholarship
Carolyn Kent Rovee-Collier graduated from ULS in 1959 and went on to an eminent career as a researcher in the field of infant memory. With this scholarship, Carolyn’s family thanks the school where she had her earliest educational experiences and honors her legacy as a pioneering female scientist. This year’s recipient is Emma Munoz.
