Greenville is about the people who live in the area, and a lot of people are choosing to live near Greenville. The population is about 75,000 in 2022, and is expected to grow even more in the next few years. Residents range from young medical professionals coming to work for Prisma Health or the Bon Secours System to engineers with Michelin or GE to workers at BASF or Mitsubishi to attorneys, accountants and more for companies including Lockheed Martin, 3M, and Bosch. They include retirees coming from the Northeast, Midwest, West Coast and Florida. These are people who are learning that they can work remotely instead of in New York City or Washington, D.C. offices. They choose a community with four distinct seasons, rivers galore and located along the Interstate 85 corridor.

For fun, the folks of Greenville can choose from Clemson athletics (it’s a scenic 45-minute drive to the Tigers’ home field!), Greenville Triumph professional soccer, Greenville Drive baseball, and Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey. There are close to 50 golf courses in the Greenville area alone. Greenville’s award-winning downtown boasts waterfalls, cafes and parks, world-class dining and shopping, a love of the local arts and the only single suspension pedestrian bridge in America, which overlooks the beautiful 26-acre Falls Park. Throughout the year, there are large food festivals ,art festivals, theater options galore and world-class museums.

Clemson is a leading research institution with more than 80 undergraduate majors and 130 graduate degrees, and students from all over the globe come to study at the school. As a world class university, Clemson offers a multitude of athletic and cultural activities including drama and musical productions. Most open to the public.

Clemson students enjoy a multitude of traditions, including First Friday Parade, Tiger Rag, and Running Down the Hill (which claims to be the most exciting 25 seconds in college football), but two traditions travel beyond the campus–these Tigers produce Clemson Blue Cheese and Clemson Ice Cream with products found in local grocery stores.

Clemson’s athletic teams compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference and have won many national and conference championships, including the 2021 NCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship.

HIGHLANDS & CASHIERS

Just a short drive north of Lake Keowee are the charming communities of Cashers and Highlands. These picturesque towns are filled with enchanting boutiques, luxury accommodations, quaint cafes, and coffee shops. A popular vacation location, Cashiers and Highlands offer a place of rest following a hike to nearby Whitewater Falls. or a day spent exploring the nearby Nantahala Forest and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Highlands sits about 4,100 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest incorporated towns east of the Rockies. Winter weather can slow activities, but the seasons in the area paint a gorgeous natural picture yearround.

The towns surrounding Lake Keowee offer a wide variety of shopping experiences as well as plenty of fine and casual dining. These towns have been carefully revitalized in recent years, making the area around the lake an enjoyable destination for residents and visitors. In the Spring and Summer, Seneca hosts “Jazz in the Alley”, a fun-filled family jazz concert and gathering each Thursday evening on Ram Cat Alley. Pendleton features boutique stores and restaurants on the town square.

WALHALLA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Located just a few miles from Lake Keowee, the Walhalla Performing Arts Center is a world-class facility which hosts performances, conferences and special events in order to enhance the cultural and social life of Upstate South Carolina. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this carefully restored former school building has a long history of presenting spectacular shows and popular entertainers.
