Real Time with your Lt. G. Hello Key Clubbers! Welcome back to school! As the school year begins and we ease back into classes, we can look forward to riveting Key Club meetings. A new school year means new members as well. Make sure to focus on recruiting new members and remind old members to stay active in service. As you all know this is the LAST year of The Eliminate Project, so it’s really time to contribute in any way you can. Coming up in October is Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. If your school is not signed up to automatically receive boxes, please make sure to order your collection boxes online. I can’t wait to see everyone again and I hope your school years are off to a spectacular start! In service and care,
Greetings from your International Trustee Hi, everyone! My name is Tashrima Hossain, and I am so excited to introduce myself as your International Trustee for the 2014-2015 Key Club year. This year, I have the honor of serving CNH KIWIN’S, Georgia, and Pacific-Northwest— which, in my opinion, are the three best districts in Key Club International. J In case we haven’t talked yet, to let you know a little bit more about myself, I’m from Houston, Texas, and I’m going to be a rising senior at Cypress Falls High School this fall. In addition to being an avid Key Clubber, I’m also a debater and class officer. I like to spend my free time baking, being a complete Pinterest freak, and sleeping (my record is 17 hours non-stop). Fun fact: I have seven favorite colors– coral, turquoise, yellow, emerald green, royal blue, fuchsia, and purple. If you’re reading this email, respond with a fun fact about yourself. (This will also be a way to see who has read the email so far and who has just been skimming!) For those of you who would like to know more about my duties as International Trustee, I have a few basic responsibilities: attending International Board meetings, participating in a maximum of two district visits, and acting as a representative of the international level of Key Club. In addition, your governor and I completed a Governor-Trustee agreement, which identified main expectations; many of said goals revolve around constant communication and building positive Sister District relations—all of which are means to ensure that I effectively represent your views on the international level. Additionally, I serve with Jenalee Beazley, Rip Livingston, Liz Moore, and Nicole Lema on the Growth and Communication Committee. There, we predominantly focus on fostering a connection between advisors and Kiwanis clubs, making Key Club a school-wide name, creating a “cool factor” for Key Club, empowering local clubs to publicize their work, creating a strategic growth plan for KCI, and creating an annual club census. We already have a very specific set of goals and action steps for the first quarter; I plan to update you all with any progress in that arena.
To remind you all about my platform from ICON, I intend to spend this year focusing on communication, cooperation, and contribution throughout KCI in my capacities as Trustee and also as a member of the Communication and Growth Committee. Nonetheless, more than anything, I hope to serve as an active resource for you all. If you have questions about amendments, elections, service, or general Key Club knowledge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here as a resource, friend, and assistant in any way you may need. Call me, email me, Facebook me— I’m always ready to lend a hand. P.S. Look forward to your first Trustee Update from me this Wednesday, August 13! Yours in service, Tashrima Hossain International Trustee Georgia, KIWIN'S, & Pacific-Northwest 713-505-2252 keyclub.org
Purpose:” Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.”
Need: “To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.”
