Cars Written by Jung Kyu-jin
(Sign: Motor vehicles only) There are this many cars in the world. They all have different colors and shapes. (Sign: No pedestrians) As we look carefully at these cars, we find each of their unique faces.
(Sign: Slow) Cars are the latest invention among various means of transportation. (Sign: No stopping or parking) Cars use all the technologies that were necessary for making carriages, bicycles, and trains. The first car ever invented looked like a bicycle. It didn’t need human power to move because it had an engine. Producing many cars at once became possible when cars began to be assembled at plants. The cars became lower in height and curvier in shape to run well in the face of headwinds. With technological developments, small but fast and strong cars were developed. Cars are smaller but more comfortable for people inside.
(Sign: One way) Cars must be fast but steady. When driving, people should feel as comfortable as when they are at home.
1
(Sign: Stop) That is why when we make cars, we need as many materials as when building houses. Cars are comfortable thanks to their strong body made of steel and seats covered with fabric or leather. Rubber wheels provide a smooth ride even when we are on rocky roads. Strong but light aluminum supports the rubber wheels. We can see outside through transparent glass windows and drive without getting caught in a storm. Many parts of cars are made of plastic, a material that can take any form people need. (Sign: No overtaking) No matter how fast people are, they are still slower than dogs or rabbits. With cars, we can run faster than giraffes, lions, and elephants. (Sign: Wild animals crossing) Cheetahs run as fast as cars, but they get tired easier when running a long distance.
(Sign: Maximum speed limit) Cars have an important task of taking people or cargo from one place to another. (Sign: Bus only lane) Cars that take on lots of people should be comfortable, and those that carry hefty loads should be strong.
(Sign: Danger) Cars with special tasks have a unique shape. Some help farm work, and others help construction work. (Sign: Do not enter)
2
Some cars save sick people, and some put out fire. Some are used as a house, and some as a store.
(Sign: Right turn) For any car to move, it needs a person to drive it. People should learn how to drive. (Sign: Watch out for children) People learn how to move and stop a car, but most importantly, they learn how to drive safely.
(Sign: Pedestrians only) Moving a car well does not mean the person is a good driver. This is because there are a lot of rules on the road that we should follow. (Sign: Slippery road) Sometimes we have to go slowly, and at other times we are allowed to go fast. Sometimes we have to stop, and at other times we can go.
(Sign: Speed bump) We can move a car with just our hands and feet using various tools around the driver’s seat. (Sign: Unprotected left turn) We can exchange signs with other cars by flickering the lights. This way, we don’t get in a fight with other cars on the road. We know what’s happening behind my car. We can check if there is a car next to me. We can see how fast we are driving. We can make our car stop and go.
3
We send signs by flickering the light. We can clean the window.
(Sign: Disabled parking only)
(Sign: Road closed)
We use just our hands and feet to move a car that is much heavier than a person because cars have numerous devices, both big and small, that mesh and turn nicely inside their body. By putting together components, we make an outer body of a car. With the devices that mesh and turn front and back, and up and down, the cars go and stop.
(Sign: Tunnel) Cars made our lives more convenient but at the same time, they brought the world certain bad things. (Sign: Tow away zone) Because we have too many cars, we breathe bad air and have fewer roads for animals and less land for people.
(Sign: Rotary / Roundabout) We are not changing the appearance of cars just to make it look better. It is to produce faster, more comfortable, and stronger cars. (Sign: Yield) Better car-making technologies will save people and save nature.
(Sign: Falling rocks) At first, we drove cars made in other countries, but now we make one of the best cars in the world.
4
(Sign: U-Turn) Today, other countries wish to ride in our cars.
(Sign: Road works) Even good cars become junk someday, but if we drive carefully and do regular checkups, our cars will work like brand-new ones. (Sign: Parking lot) All we have to do is not start or stop the car abruptly, not drive too fast, and fill up what the car needs at the right time.
(Sign: No bicycles) People will keep releasing much-improved cars. Cars that have a new appearance and do amazing jobs. (Sign: Crosswind) Whatever new cars we have, the happiness that comes from driving to any place we want will remain unchanged.
