CARRERA’s history dates back to 1956, when Austrian sports eyewear maker Wilhelm Anger founded the brand which was destined to become a byword for style and design as well as quality and technical innovation. The brand’s name was taken from the legendary “Carrera Panamericana”, one of the most famous road races in Latin America in the 1950s. From then on, the brand’s passion for cars and its racing spirit became embedded in its DNA and Carrera, as a division of the Wilhelm Anger Werker company, started producing motorcycle goggles and ski masks. CARRERA invented and patented Optyl, a revolutionary material that was 100% hypoallergenic, 30% lighter than traditional acetate and featured an amazing memory effect ensuring elasticity and comfort. In 1996 CARRERA joined the Safilo Group: this new collaboration boosted the products’ potential in terms of style and innovation and made the brand even more successful internationally. Today the CARRERA brand represents a dynamic lifestyle, evokes emotions, and features cutting-edge design and technical innovation.
