Mission For over a decade we have been working to alleviate the difficult situation that children, teenagers and mothers from these vulnerable sectors of the Uruguayan society have to cope with. Presently we are facing a huge problem, which could lead to severe consequences for the future of the country. Education is undergoing a deep crisis, which particularly affects children and teenagers living in poverty. This seriously threatens their possibilities of personal achievement and development as well as the growth potential of the country. Inequality in the Uruguayan education is

rising, making it more difficult for these children and teenagers to receive a quality education. Our new mission focuses on the search for solutions to the problems in Uruguayan education. We will work even harder to identify and promote all those projects that offer education opportunities for children and teenagers, as they are the future of our country. Today we commit ourselves to doing our best to fight that inequality and to achieve an integrating education, so that one day all Uruguayans in that situation are able to develop their full potential, which will benefit society as a whole.

Reaching U Reaching U was founded in the USA through the iniciative of a group of Uruguayans who decided to give back to their country part of what they had received through their education. We are a transparent and plural organization formed by people of different ages, with different beliefs, political and religious ideas, who work selflessly to improve life conditions in the most deprived Uruguayan sectors. Our formal working teams include directors, staff and volunteers in Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, Montevideo, New York and Washington DC.

Global Event

Through a formal and very demanding research and selection process, we work to identify those organizations that manage projects with deep potential impact, not only on education conditions of the most vulnerable children and teenagers, but also on their families and communities. By resorting to the advice of experts, researchers, leaders and innovators in the field, we are able to build a diverse project portfolio, which enables us to compare and assess the results of different positive influences on education. We closely follow the

development of each project, providing ideas, relating them to other projects, verifying that the objectives are met and that the expected results are achieved. At the same time, in all the cities we are present we identify people and organizations capable of providing their financial resources, their ideas and time. Thus becoming part of a strong network of change that has a significant impact on society. As a transparent organization, we inform our donors of the use of their funds, but above all, we inform them of the real impact that their contributions have on the education of the children and teenagers we support. Thanks to the commitment of its donors, Reaching U has been able to raise more than USD 1,300,000 since its creation. In 2012 we will have invested more than USD 323.000 in more than twenty social projects.

We know we have a very powerful tool in our hands to make a real impact on Uruguayan education and that is why we want to continue to grow. For the first time, we have organized a global event, which is taking place in six different cities in the world at the same time, to spread our message, add wills and raise as much funds as possible. Today all of us will be part of the solution that education needs because 100% of the funds raised will be invested in projects from our portfolio. Reaching U works in three different countries under the corresponding legal regulations in force. In the USA it is a non-profit organization (501(c)3). Therefore, contributions are tax deductible according to the law. In Spain, it is a non-profit association registered at the Associations Registry Office of the Community of Madrid as per resolution of the General Administration of Public Security and Internal affairs (NIF G86412178). In Uruguay we have legal capacity recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Nacimos en los Estados Unidos de la visión de un grupo de uruguayos que decidieron devolver a nuestro país parte de lo que habíamos recibido con nuestra educación. Somos una organización transparente y plural, integrada por personas de todas las edades, con distintas creencias, ideas políticas y religiosas, que trabajamos desinteresadamente para mejorar las condiciones de vida de los sectores más pobres del Uruguay. Tenemos equipos de trabajo formales integrados por directores, staff y voluntarios en Los Ángeles, Madrid, Miami, Montevideo, Nueva York y Washington DC. Trabajamos para identificar, mediante un exigente proceso de investigación y selección formal, a aquellas organizaciones que administran proyectos con potencial de impacto profundo en las condiciones de educación de los niños y adolescentes más vulnerables, en sus familias y en sus comunidades. Nos asesoramos con expertos, investigadores, referentes e innovadores en el tema, para componer una cartera de proyectos diversos, que permite comparar y evaluar los resultados de las distintas formas de incidir sobre la educación. Como organización transparente, nos comprometemos a informar a nuestros donantes sobre el uso de los fondos pero, sobre todo, sobre la incidencia real que tienen sus contribuciones en las condiciones de la educación de los niños y adolescentes que apoyamos. Gracias al compromiso de nuestros donantes, en Reaching U hemos recaudado más de USD 1.300.000 desde nuestra creación. En 2012 hemos invertido más de USD 323.000 en más de 20 proyectos sociales. Estamos convencidos de tener entre manos una herramienta muy poderosa para lograr un impacto real en la educación del Uruguay y por eso queremos seguir creciendo. Greetings from our Chairman of the Board Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to welcome you to Reaching U’s 2012 Dinner and Auction. For the last eleven years, Reaching U has provided help and support to over 20,000 Uruguayans living in poverty. We are here today to renew our commitment to bring hope and opportunities to thousands more children and adolescents.

In these eleven years Reaching U has also expanded geographically and today we are celebrating a Global Event in Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, Montevideo, New York and Washington D.C. In every one of these cities we have a group of directors and volunteers that work tirelessly to expand and strengthen the reach of our organization. My deep gratitude to all of them. Reaching U takes great pride in having this special opportunity to honor two outstanding individuals who not only are successful in their fields but also have made remarkable contributions to charitable organizations in Uruguay. Our honorees are HSH Laetitia Princess d’Arenberg, an entrepreneur and businesswoman with over thirty years of professional success and a commitment to numerous social causes in Uruguay. She has supported several nonprofit organizations in Uruguay such as Proyecto Renacer, Senior Care Center of Florida, Jails, Capilla del Sauce Primary School, San Pedro de Timote School, among many others; and Dr. H. Fisk Johnson, CEO of SC Johnson, a global company with a Uruguayan subsidiary and one of the world’s leading makers of household products. Under Fisk’s leadership, SC Johnson is committed to its environmental objectives and philanthropic efforts around the world. The SC Johnson subsidiary in Uruguay has supported organic orchards in rural schools to create a place of study and source of food for students. In addition it has promoted campaigns to donate to the Cero Falta program, which helps students from underprivileged backgrounds stay in school. Likewise, I would like to express my gratitude to our three special guests. Father Gonzalo Aemilius has shown courage and commitment to improving the educational opportunities of Barrio Casavalle’s children, teenagers and adults. Enrique Baliño has been promoting education and entrepreneurship in Uruguay for many years and Dr. Thomas Dodd for his work as U.S. Ambassador to Uruguay. Their indefatigable work is worth of our outmost admiration. We congratulate this year’s honorees and guest speakers, whose active involvement and leadership in philanthropic endeavors are an inspiration to all of us. En los últimos once años, Reaching U ha ayudado a más de 20.000 uruguayos que viven en la pobreza. Estamos aquí esta noche para renovar nuestro compromiso de brindar esperanza y oportunidades a miles de otros niños y adolescentes que lo necesitan. En estos once años, Reaching U se ha expandido geográficamente y hoy estamos celebrando un Evento Global en Los Ángeles, Madrid, Miami, Montevideo, New York y Washington D.C. En cada una de estas ciudades tenemos grupos de directores y voluntarios que trabajan incansablemente para expandir y fortalecer el alcance de nuestra organización. Para todos ellos mi profundo agradecimiento. En Reaching U estamos orgullosos de honrar esta noche a dos individuos destacados que no solo han sido exitosos en su campo profesional sino también han contribuido significativamente con organizaciones benéficas de ayuda. Nuestros invitados de honor son: SAS Laetitia Princesa d’Arenberg, emprendedora y mujer de negocios con más de 30 años de exitosa trayectoria profesional y profundo compromiso con diversas organizaciones sin fines de lucro en Uruguay. Entre ellas se destacan Proyecto Renacer, Hogar de Ancianos de Florida, Cárceles, Escuela Primaria de Capilla del Sauce, Escuela en San Pedro de Timote en Florida, entre muchas otras; y H. Fisk Johnson, CEO de SC Johnson, una compañía global con subsidiaria en Uruguay y uno de los líderes mundiales en la producción de artículos para el hogar. Bajo el liderazgo de Fisk, SC Johnson se ha comprometido con causas filantrópicas y ecológicas en todo el mundo. La subsidiaria de SC Johnson en Uruguay ha financiado huertas orgánicas en escuelas rurales así como ha promovido campañas para donar parte de la venta de sus productos al programa Cero Falta, que ayuda a los estudiantes de menores ingresos a permanecer en el sistema educativo. Asimismo, quiero agradecer la presencia de nuestros tres invitados especiales. El padre Gonzalo Aemilius ha mostrado compromiso y valentía para mejorar las oportunidades de educación de los niños, niñas y adultos del Barrio Casavalle. Letter from our Executive Director Eleven years ago Reaching U organized its first fundraising event. Since then we have been knocking on doors that open generously with people who are willing to share our mission, accompanying the effort of amazing social entrepreneurs, who work tirelessly for a vision, fighting day after day to build opportunities for Uruguayan children and youngsters. For eleven years we have been in touch with the life stories of these children and youngsters that are the reason for our existence and for whom we want to work even harder.

We could say that we have matured. That now we know what we have to do. It has been a long learning process to choose and monitor the most valuable projects, building solid relationships with those who give us their support, and thousands of hours have been devoted by directors and volunteers to work for the same mission. After eleven years we keep on asking ourselves every day questions that are very difficult to answer. We ask ourselves if we are doing everything we can for these children and teenagers, whether we should support other kind of projects, or do it in a different way. Finally we ask ourselves if there are better ways to reduce educational inequality. If we have matured, why do we still want to grow, questioning what we do, asking experts for help, thinking how to improve our organization, rebelling against a system that does not give the most vulnerable children the answers they need?

I think that after such a long time, Reaching U is still an adolescent. We still have that curiosity to learn and discover. Isn’t it characteristic of adolescence to question everything as a way to learn, to rebel as a way to understand, and ask over and over “why”? I am convinced that what we have experienced so far is only the beginning. We have a clear vision for the future. We already know perfectly well what “we want to be when we grow up”, but we are aware that we still have a lot to do, that we have to keep on growing, learning, asking, making mistakes and changing. Education in our country faces problems that require far-reaching solutions which in turn require the action of various actors. At Reaching U we fight and win battles on a daily basis against inequality in education. We create opportunities so that Uruguayan children and youngsters that live in poverty have access to a quality education. We can do a lot to help them develop to their full potential. They want to do it, but they face obstacles that are difficult to imagine. They want to put aside frustration and believe it is possible. They want to study, improve their present and build their future. We just have to be by their side to help them access what nobody should deprive them of. Something no economic crisis should destroy and no one should take away from them: their education. They can do it if we can help them.

Carta del Director Ejecutivo Hace once años Reaching U organizaba su primer evento de búsqueda de fondos. Once años golpeando puertas que se abren generosas, dispuestas a sumarse a nuestra misión. Acompañando el trabajo de emprendedores sociales sorprendentes, que trabajan de manera incansable por una visión, luchando cada día por construir oportunidades para niños y jóvenes uruguayos. Once años viviendo de cerca las historias de vida de esos niños y jóvenes por los que existimos, por los que queremos hacer cada vez más. Podríamos decir que hemos madurado. Que ya sabemos lo que tenemos que hacer. Es mucho tiempo aprendiendo a elegir y a acompañar los proyectos más valiosos, construyendo relaciones sólidas con los que nos apoyan. Son miles de horas de trabajo de directores y voluntarios alineados tras una misión. Pero aún después de once años no dejamos de hacernos preguntas con respuestas muy difíciles, ¿estamos haciendo todo lo posible por estos niños y adolescentes?, ¿necesitamos apoyar otro tipo de proyectos o hacerlo de otro modo?, ¿hay mejores formas de mitigar la desigualdad educativa? ¿Por qué si hemos madurado queremos seguir creciendo, cuestionando lo que hacemos, pidiendo ayuda a gente experta, pensando cómo mejorar nuestra organización, rebelándonos contra un sistema que no da las respuestas que los más vulnerables necesitan? Creo que Reaching U, después de tantos años, sigue estando en plena adolescencia. Seguimos con esa curiosidad por conocer y descubrir. ¿No es acaso propia de la adolescencia esa necesidad de cuestionarse todo como forma de aprender, de rebelarse como forma de entender, preguntar hasta el cansancio “por qué, por qué, por qué”? Estoy convencido que lo vivido hasta ahora son solo nuestros primeros pasos. Tenemos una visión clara del futuro. Sabemos perfectamente bien lo que “queremos ser cuando seamos grandes”, somos conscientes de que tenemos mucho por hacer, y seguir creciendo, aprendiendo, preguntando, equivocándonos, cambiando. La educación en nuestro país tiene problemas que requieren soluciones profundas para las que se precisa la acción coordinada de múltiples actores. No podemos resolverlos solos, pero desde Reaching U podemos luchar y ganar batallas cada día contra la inequidad en la educación.

Podemos crear oportunidades para que niños y jóvenes uruguayos que viven en situación de pobreza accedan a una educación de calidad. Podemos hacer mucho para que puedan desarrollarse en todo su potencial. Ellos quieren hacerlo pero enfrentan obstáculos difíciles de imaginar, quieren dejar de lado la frustración y creer que se puede. Quieren estudiar, mejorar su presente y construir su futuro. Nosotros solo tenemos que acompañarlos para que accedan a algo que nadie les puede robar, que ninguna crisis económica destruirá, que nada podrá quitarles jamás: su educación. Ellos pueden, si nosotros podemos ayudarlos.

Honoree / Homenajeada HSH Laetitia Princess d’Arenberg, New York HSH Laetitia Princess d’Arenberg was born on September 2, 1941, in Brumana, French Protectorate, currently Libano, where her parents were members of the French Army. In 1951 she arrived for the first time to Uruguay with her family. She volunteered at the Maldonado Hospital since she was 13 years old until age of majority. The family lived in France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Argentina and Uruguay, where she settled in 1973, with her two sons, Sigismund and Guntram. At that point she began her successful business activity in Uruguay buying her first ranch in Los Fresnos, Florida. Thereafter she acquired Las Rosas and Santo Tomás, and later, the dairy farm Lapataia. She worked at several charitable organizations such as Proyecto Renacer (a center for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse), “El Refugio” Animal Protection Association in Montevideo, Honorary President of FUNDAPPAS (Foundation for Canine Support and Promotion), Senior Care Center of Florida, Jails, Capilla del Sauce Primary School, San Pedro de Timote School in Florida, Health Clinic Cerro Colorado. SAS Laetitia Princesa d’Arenberg nació en Burmana, protectorado francés, actual Líbano, el 2 de setiembre de 1941, donde sus padres fueron miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas de Francia. En 1951 llega por primera vez con su familia al Uruguay. Realiza trabajos voluntarios en el Hospital de Maldonado desde los 13 años hasta la mayoría de edad. Vivió con su familia entre Francia, Suiza, Austria, Alemania, Argentina y Uruguay, donde se radica definitivamente en 1973 con sus dos hijos Sigismund y Guntram. Comienza su actividad empresarial en este país, comprando su primera estancia Los Fresnos en Florida. Después se sumó Estancia Las Rosas y Santo Tomás y, más adelante, adquiere el Tambo Lapataia. Trabaja en asociaciones de beneficencia y apoya distintas instituciones como Proyecto Renacer que es un Centro de Prevención y Rehabilitación de personas en situación de drogodependencia, “El Refugio” Asociación Protectora de Animales de Montevideo, Presidenta Honoraria de FUNDAPPAS (Fundación de Apoyo y Promoción del Perro de Asistencia), Hogar de Ancianos de Florida, Cárceles, Escuela Primaria de Capilla del Sauce, Escuela en San Pedro de Timote en Florida, Policlínica de Cerro Colorado así como madrina de varias Asociaciones Civiles de ayuda de distinta índole. Honoree / Homenajeado Dr. H. Fisk Johnson, New York H. Fisk Johnson is Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of the Board of S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc. Fisk joined SC Johnson in 1987 and he has served in a variety of senior level management and marketing positions, both domestically and internationally. Fisk Johnson is the fifth generation Johnson family leader of the 126-year-old global company headquartered in Racine, Wisc. He serves on The Consumer Goods Forum Board of Directors. Fisk served on the Cornell University Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2001 and now is a Trustee Emeritus. He also is a member of the Visiting Committee to the Department of Physical Sciences, University of Chicago. He was honored to be the 2009 Robert S. Hatfield Fellow in Economic Education and to receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2011. Fisk served as a member of the Presidentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiation from 2002-2010, and was reappointed in 2011. From 2002 to 2011, he served on the Board of Directors of Conservation International. Fisk holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics; Master of Engineering; M.S. in Physics; MBA in Marketing and Finance; and Ph.D. in Physics, all from Cornell University. Special Guest / Invitado especial Father/Padre Gonzalo Aemilius, New York Gonzalo Aemilius was born in Montevideo on September 18th, 1979. He is the second of four children. His parents are Guillermo, an accountant, and Any, a teacher. His family have played a vital role throughout Gonzaloâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s personal and professional process, providing him with the necessary tools to meet the challenges that lay ahead. Along the way he met people who marked his life as a teenager, like Pedro Poveda and Father Cacho. They became extremely important when the Archbishop of Montevideo entrusted him with the mission of being Executive Secretary at the Education Vicariate and, simultaneously, Leader advisor for students at Jubilar High school. Jubilar is an Educational Center that generated great expectations for being the first free school in the country privately managed. He was ordained on May 6th, 2006, and was sent to Stella Maris Parish located in the Carrasco district until the middle of 2012, when he was transferred to San Lorenzo Parish. Throughout these years he has created a unique educational model at Jubilar for the teenagers and families from Cuenca Casavalle. The educational unit is the family, which is tackled as a whole, to promote in each teenager and its environment a transforming effect. This turns the school into an integral education center. At present, the Jubilar Model is starting to be replicated in three areas in Montevideo, and has turned into a beacon of hope for Cuenca Casavalleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s teenagers as well as for the formal educational system in Montevideo.

Gonzalo Aemilius nació en Montevideo, el 18 de septiembre de 1979. Es el segundo de cuatro hijos. Sus padres son Guillermo, de profesión contador, y Any, maestra. Su familia ha sido fundamental en todo su proceso personal y profesional ya que ella ha sido la gran escuela y universidad que le dieron los cimientos para enfrentar los múltiples desafíos a los que se enfrentaba. A lo largo del camino, distintas figuras que marcaron su adolescencia como Pedro Poveda y el P. Cacho se hicieron claves en el momento en que el Arzobispo de Montevideo le encomienda primero la misión de ser Secretario Ejecutivo de la Vicaría de Educación y simultáneamente Adscripto referente en el Liceo Jubilar. El Jubilar es un Centro Educativo que generaba gran expectativa ya que era el primer centro del país gratuito pero de gestión privada. El 6 de mayo de 2006 fue ordenado sacerdote, y fue enviado a la Parroquia Stella Maris de Carrasco hasta mediados de 2012, donde fue trasladado a la Parroquia San Lorenzo. Durante todos estos años, ha impulsado la acción educativa del Liceo Jubilar en pro de los adolescentes y familias de la Cuenca Casavalle, generando un modelo educativo que tiene como centro al alumno y su familia. El sujeto educativo es el conjunto familiar que debe ser abordado de forma integral para poder despertar en cada adolescente un efecto transformador en él y en su entorno. Esto convierte al Centro Escolar en un Centro Educativo Integral donde la familia es el sujeto educativo transformador. Hoy en día el Modelo Jubilar está comenzando a ser replicado en tres zonas de Montevideo volviéndose un faro de esperanza no sólo para los adolescentes de la Cuenca Casavalle sino del sistema educativo formal en Montevideo.

He is often invited to give motivational speeches for organizations and companies in different countries. He has had a long and outstanding career at IBM. He was President and General Manager for IBM Uruguay, Customer Satisfaction Director for IBM Latin America, Public Sector Director for IBM Latin America, and President and General Manager for IBM Latin America South. Throughout his life he has been actively involved with a number of nonprofit organizations. He has helped to develop organizations with different charitable purposes, and in particular those related to education and entrepreneurship. At present he is a member of the Boards of Directors of DESEM Junior Achievement Foundation and Logros Foundation. He graduated in Systems Engineering from Universidad de la República (Uruguay). He has also received executive education from the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and from the University of Columbia, New York, USA. In 2002 he was awarded the title of Academic Head Engineer by the National Academy of Engineering and he is an advisory member of the School of Engineering at the University of Montevideo. In 2003 he received the Morosoli prize from the Lolita Rubial Foundation. In 2010 he presented his book “ No más Pálidas. Cuatro actitudes para el éxito” (No more negative thoughts. Four attitudes for success), published by Xn Publishing, Xn Consultores’ publishing and content unit; now in its 13th edition and with more than 19,000 copies sold in Uruguay.

Special Guest / Invitado especial Ambassador Thomas J. Dodd, Washington DC Thomas J. Dodd served as the former United States Ambassador to Uruguay (1993–1997) and to Costa Rica (1997–2001). He was a professor of Latin American History and Diplomacy at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and Director of the Latin American Studies Program for Georgetown’s graduate school. He lectured at several institutions, including the Foreign Service Institute, the National Defense University, and the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores in Guadalajara, Mexico. Since his diplomatic assignments, Dodd has been an adjunct professor in the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University, School of International Service of American University, and the Honors Program, George Washington University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Foundation. Dodd served in the U.S. Army and has received academic degrees from Georgetown University (B.S.) and George Washington University (M.A. and Ph.D.). He has published articles and books on Latin American foreign policy.

Fue profesor de Diplomacia e Historia de América Latina en la Escuela de Servicio Exterior de la Universidad de Georgetown, así como director del Programa de posgrado de Estudios Latinoamericanos de Georgetown. Dodd ha dictado conferencias en varias instituciones, entre ellas el Instituto de Servicio Exterior, la Universidad Nacional de Defensa y el Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores en Guadalajara, México. Desde sus misiones diplomáticas, Dodd ha sido profesor adjunto en la Escuela de Servicio Exterior de la Universidad de Georgetown, en la Escuela de Servicio Internacional de la American University y en el Programa de Honores de la Universidad de George Washington. Actualmente es miembro de la junta directiva de la Fundación Interamericana. Carlos Páez Vilaró was born in Montevideo, in 1923. He took up drawing in 1939 and relocated to Buenos Aires. Returning to Montevideo, he developed an interest in Afro-Uruguayan culture. Settling in Montevideo’s primarily black neighbourhood of “Mediomundo”, he studied the Candombe and Comparsa dances characteristic to the culture. Increasingly well-known, Páez Vilaró was commissioned in 1959 to create a mural of 155 metres (509 ft) long in Washington. He continued to create murals and sculptures all over the world. He traveled in numerous West African nations to make a documentary, Batouk, which closed the Cannes film festival. He purchased a sea-front property on eastern Uruguay’s scenic Punta Ballena, building a small, wooden lodge that over time became “Casapueblo” (“House-Village”), his “living sculpture”, where he currently resides.

Calos Paez Vilaró nació en Montevideo el 1º de noviembre de 1923. Marcado por una fuerte vocación artística partió en su juventud a Buenos Aires, donde se vinculó al medio de las artes gráficas. A su regreso al Uruguay, motivado por el tema del candombe y la comparsa afro-oriental y vinculándose estrechamente a la vida del conventillo “Mediomundo”, entra de lleno a manifestarse en el campo del arte. Se entrega totalmente al tema, pintando decenas de cartones, componiendo candombes para las comparsas lubolas, dirigiendo sus coros o decorando sus tambores. Realizó múltiples exposiciones y dejó su sello en monumentales murales en varios países del mundo. Logró realizar en Africa el film ”Batouk”, distinguido para clausurar el Festival de Cannes. En toda su vasta trayectoria de realizaciones el artista mantuvo con firmeza su lealtad al tema afro-uruguayo, al que le sigue dedicando las mejores horas. Páez Vilaró, radicado finalmente en Punta Ballena, Uruguay, tiene su taller en la cúpula mayor de Casapueblo, su “escultura habitable”, modelada con sus propias manos, sobre los acantilados que miran al mar en Punta Ballena.

En 1986 residió y trabajó en Paris. Desde 1990 reside y trabaja en Nueva York y Miami. Sus obras están en Colecciones Corporativas de Citibank, Xerox, Avon, Merrill Lynch y JP Morgan Chase Bank. Coleccionistas Privados como la Senadora Hillary Clinton, Dan Marino, Gloria y Emilio Estefan, Al Pacino, Steven Segal y Oscar de la Hoya, tienen sus obras. El artista ha exhibido en el Museo de Arte LatinoAmericano, Laguna Beach California, el Museo de Arte, Ponce, Puerto Rico y el Centro Cultural Recoleta, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Las pinturas de Bottero también están en las casas de remate de Sotheby´s y Christie´s, Nueva York, USA.

Daniel Bottero, graduated from the National School of Fine Arts, Buenos Aires. He earned his Master’s Degree at the Academia Italiana di Belle Arti, Lucca, Italy. From 1986 to 1990 Bottero resided and worked in Paris. Since 1990 he has lived and worked in New York and Miami. Bottero’s work has been shown throughout the world. His paintings are featured in the corporate collections of Citibank, Xerox, Avon, Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan Chase Bank. Children´s Club

These are socio-educational proposals aimed at boys and girls that grow up within a social risk environment in Uruguay. They go to school to receive formal education and are provided with ongoing support at the Children’s clubs. Every child benefits from personalized attention according to his/her individual situation.

Their self-esteem is encouraged with respect, cooperation, self-improvement in coordination with other institutions related to their health and wellbeing. A close bond is generated with each family and parents are offered different activities in areas such as labor integration, dental care, and sexual health workshops, among others.

After school hours boys and girls are given tutoring support and attend workshops on English, IT, crafts and paintings, theatre, sports, yoga and they take part in other activities. Moreover, they receive psychological and psycho educational care and those with learning disabilities are provided with special assistance. Children are also offered either breakfast and lunch or snack and dinner.

In general the Children’s Clubs work together with the Uruguayan Institute for Children and Teenagers (INAU for its acronym in Spanish),they get the support from organizations such as Reaching U and other kind of donations. The work is coordinated with the formal education centers within the area as well as with other state programs. The objective of these Children’s Clubs are to accompany all beneficiaries in their educational process and to promote the development to their full potential.

Club de Niños Son propuestas socioeducativas dirigidas a niñas y niños que crecen en condiciones de vulnerabilidad social en Uruguay. Ellos asisten a la escuela para recibir educación formal y cuentan con acompañamiento permanente de los Clubes de Niños. Se desarrolla un trabajo individualizado y un abordaje integral en función de la situación de cada chico. Contra horario escolar, niñas y niños reciben apoyo para realizar sus deberes, talleres de inglés, informática, plástica, teatro, deporte, yoga y otras actividades que varían en función de cada Club. Además cuentan con atención psicológica, psicopedagógica, y se trabaja especialmente con quienes tienen dificultades de aprendizaje. También reciben desayuno y almuerzo, o merienda y cena. Se promueve la autoestima de cada niño en un ámbito de respeto, cooperación, superación en coordinación con otras instituciones vinculadas a la salud y el bienestar de cada beneficiario. Se genera un vínculo estrecho con cada familia, y se ofrecen actividades para madres y padres en áreas como capacitación para inserción laboral, atención odontológica, talleres de salud sexual, entre otros. En general los Clubes de Niños funcionan en convenio con el Instituto del Niño y el Adolescente del Uruguay (INAU), el apoyo de organizaciones como Reaching U, y otro tipo de donaciones. El trabajo se coordina con los centros de educación formal de la zona de referencia, así como con otros programas estatales. El objetivo de estos Clubes de Niños es acompañar a cada beneficiario en su proceso educativo y promover el desarrollo de todas sus potencialidades.

Youth centers These centers consist of socio-educational programs aimed at teenagers from socially vulnerable backgrounds. One of the main objectives of this kind of projects is to prevent teenagers from leaving the formal education system. For that purpose, they are provided help with school work and guidance not only on educational areas, but also in regard to future job opportunities; their capacities are strengthened and their creative, physical and moral development fostered. In those cases of school desertion, the Centers promote the reintegration of students to formal education. Teenagers are offered job training in areas such as IT, carpentry, serigraphy, gastronomy and pastry-making, etc. Teenagers participate in workshops on

health, sexual and reproductive rights, and are part of integration spaces for teenagers and youngsters. Self-esteem is encouraged within a background of respect, cooperation and self-improvement. The work is carried out in coordination with the family, and they are accompanied throughout the different personal and institutional processes. In general terms Youth Centers are jointly managed by the Uruguayan Institute for Children and Teenagers (INAU for its acronym in Spanish), with the financial support and follow-up from organizations such as Reaching U.

Centros Juveniles Son propuestas socioeducativas dirigidas a adolescentes en situación de vulnerabilidad social. Uno de los objetivos principales de este tipo de proyecto es mantener a los adolescentes dentro del sistema educativo formal. Para eso se les da apoyo liceal, orientación en áreas educativas y en su futuro laboral, se fortalecen sus habilidades, se estimula su desarrollo creativo, físico y moral. En los casos de deserción liceal, los Centros promueven el reintegro del adolescente a la educación formal. También se apoya a los alumnos de educación técnica de la Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay. Se concretan talleres de capacitación laboral en áreas como informática, carpintería, serigrafía, gastronomía y repostería entre otras. Los adolescentes participan en talleres sobre salud, derechos sexuales y reproductivos, y son parte de espacios de integración para los adolescentes y jóvenes. Se promueve la autoestima en un ambiente de respeto, cooperación y superación. Se trabaja en coordinación permanente con la familia, y se las acompaña en diferentes procesos personales e institucionales. Cada Centro trabaja para que los adolescentes construyan su propio proyecto de vida, y se los acompaña en ese proceso. En general los Centros Juveniles son co-gestionados entre el Instituto del Niño y el Adolescente del Uruguay (INAU) y organizaciones de la sociedad civil, y cuentan con el apoyo financiero y seguimiento de organizaciones como Reaching U.
