President's Message Dear Rancher, We have just concluded a very successful June sale and 2015 mink season, in a year that wasn’t easy for anyone. Given all of the circumstances leading up to our auction, we are very proud that we could attract such a strong attendance from all markets, creating a very competitive mink sale to end the year. We were up against many factors, including difficult market conditions in Russia, travel warnings in Korea, economic instability in Greece, and the fact that our auction came at the end of a long run of selling days. The success of our June auction is a testament to the ongoing and strong relationships that NAFA maintains with our buyers, as well as the appreciation they have for our diverse and high quality collection. NAFA is the first auction company to offer a complete assortment of Breeders and Section III in high volume, and the end result of this mink auction was a win-win-win – not only for buyers and sellers, but for NAFA as well. Our buyers were extremely pleased that the last auction before the summer break ended on a high note, thereby securing skin prices and garment prices going into the heavy manufacturing season. The conclusion of our June sale brings us to a total offering of over 10 million mink in the 2015 season. This certainly would not have been possible without our dedicated, hard-working employees. I’m very proud of our entire staff for their professional performance throughout all of our auctions. NAFA has a reputation for providing the highest level of service, by the friendliest staff; from the quality of our assortment, to our cataloguing and copying services, to our transportation, warehouse inspection and shipping – even our catering and food offerings, in both quality and service. Our new, young team of auctioneers is receiving extremely high marks from the entire buying community. All of these vital elements contribute to helping us attract the maximum number of buyers to our sale. As the 2015 selling season comes to a close, we are looking ever forward to our marketing and promotional efforts coming up this fall, including buyer outreach programs, NAFA galas, and designer campaigns for 2015/2016. Throughout the course of the summer and fall we will continue to issue communications on these activities, as well as updates on how the market is progressing. Updated Price Report
During our March sale we launched a pilot version of our new price report layout. We received positive feedback on this development from both ranchers and trade alike. After speaking with many of you, we decided to add two additional elements to provide further insight into the price breakdown of NAFA’s mink. These additions are as follows:
Color: the color breakdown is now displayed for the whole variety/sex collection (for example Mahogany Males). The color division is presented as a horizontal bar graph that includes the average price for each shade. This will not only show you the trend of the price structure at-a-glance, but also which is the best-paid color within one variety.
Clarity: clarity is displayed in the same manner as color, representing the entire variety/sex collection. Clarity is also presented as a horizontal bar graph, which immediately clarifies the price structure, and the best paid clarity within a mink color variety.
Further, we have removed many of the gridlines, making it much easier to read. The new NAFA auction report structure now offers everything you want to know about the price structure of mink. It incorporates: sizes, collection numbers, shorter naps, medium nap, longer naps, top prices and now both color and clarity in an easy-to-read format on one single page! Going forward, this new report format will be our standard auction price report, published after each auction day for all varieties of which representative quantities have been sold.
NAFA 2015/2016 Designer Campaign: Behind The Scenes Over several days in June, NAFA’s fall campaign was shot on location at the Glass Boat House on Stoney Lake, in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario. This minimalist location, inspired by the landscape of the Canadian Shield, was an ideal backdrop to let NAFA furs take centre stage. The campaign features Josephine Skriver, a Danish model known for her work with fashion and beauty brands like Victoria’s Secret, Gucci, Michael Kors, DKNY, and more. Stay tuned for the full campaign, coming in Fall 2015.
