Project: Town Planning (Private Job) |Location: Suburbs, Victoria, Australia | Year: 2017
The project begins in questioning the myth of the architype and its composition in the pernicious context. The ideas of the architecture need to do more, the understanding of everyday life and the conflicts of social order put forth an impression that questions the domestic fabric. When does domestication begin? and how? The project is composed by subtle arrangements. Separation, thresholds, delineations encourage the idea to cut between/through boundaries. Therefore, the outcome becomes the social ambiguity of change. To change ones perception, one creates a difference to the collective, therefore the cut-out becomes the protagonist within an environment filled with elements of life.

THESIS DESIGN
‘SOCIAL RECLAMATION’ Fifth year design unit at Deakin University. Supervisor : Diego Fullaondo Exhibited at Melbourne Federation Square 2015 A+B exibition
In the1960’s Melbourne underwent a slum reclamation. After the Second World War, the housing commission of Victoria built estates for low income families, better known as the slum reclamation project. Given the 21 sites across Melbourne’s inner city suburbs, totalling 45 high rise buildings still in use. Their function and intent are inadequate for families needing assistance. Housing encompasses numerous qualities to an individual’s opportunity and stability in an economic world. Shelter focuses on function, providing opportunity to define a way a living. Low income housing offers alternatives for families who are in unfortunate positions. High rise housing projects intended a greater future for low income families. However, since this system has failed to ‘take care’ of its tenants, the time has come to propose alternatives to traditional forms of living. The intent is to rethink forms of housing, going beyond the home occupant and towards a more sharable and collective way of inhabiting space. ‘From excluded to included’.
PROJECT SITE 1960’S MODERNIST TOWERS
SOCIAL SEGREGATION
Commercial Injection
Circulation Reduced
Lower Level
Central Access to upper and lower levels
Upper Level
Existing tower consisted of individual levels. Being reduced to 1 in 3, minimising circulation & injecting social spaces through new elements Commercial spaces are implemented to break the order and inject financial aid to the deteriating context
PLANS OF THE THREE TOWER TYPES
OPPORTUNITY Homes that go beyond the domestic contraints. Privacy, space & work are flexible. A solid environment is replaced with curtains.
NOSTALGIA The existing vertical elements remain. Modernist tower evokes memory, a past during social change.
ECONOMICS CONNECTION Detaching the stigma of separation and exclusion within the community.
Regenerate income to support and fund the buildings themselves. Create an architectural response to prevent any further detriment to the buildings performance.
NEW WALL A new relation of pedestrian to site. The displacements of tenancies.
PLANS OF THE THREE TOWER TYPES
FRONT ELEVATION - Break from order - New Protagonist
INTERNAL VIEW
The intent is to rethink forms of housing, going beyond the home occupant and towards a more sharable and collective way of inhabiting space. Le Corbusier gave the most precise definition of housing when he said that the house is a machine Ă habiter. (A machine for living) To change the perception on commission towers and create a suitable environment for both the occupants and the community, is to understand the combination of living and working. Socially: The negative reputation of occupants and community segregation creates a barrier between social housing and their local neighbourhoods. The diverse cultures living within the flats are separated and excluded to any involvement outside of the units. A new wall....... A social reclamation.
IN OFFICE
Project: Schematic Design, Town Planning, Design Development| Location: Carlton, Melbourne, Australia | Year: 2015-2016
Design by Jackson Clements Burrows Architects (JCB), this multi-residential building for a government parcel in Melbourne’s Inner-North was refined by a small team from original concept to design development phase. Multiple stages of Private and Public Multi-Residential housing have been developed for Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) land at various sites in Carlton, as part of ongoing works that have delivered over 1000 apartments to date. An extensive Town-Planning submission currently sits before the State Government, with construction to commence imminently pending final approvals. The project was documented in Microstation (CAD)

Project: Design Development & early tender preparation |Location: Prahran, Melbourne, Australia | Year: 2016
Sub contracted to JCB architects, assisting with the Design documentation set for this 6 storey apartment complex. Located in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, the project consisted of 2 level basement car parking, ground floor townhouses, commercial tenancy and high end apartments, ranging from two to four bedrooms. The post and lintel form encompasses wide balconies within the structural grid. The relation between street and form is purely dominated by the concrete elements as it rises to 6 storeys and creates a balance in horizontal and vertical proportion. The project was documented in Autodesk Revit 2016.

Project: Reference Design |Location: Kai Tak, Hong Kong SAR| Year: 2016
Working in collaboration with Leigh & Orange Architects (Hong Kong), the reference design for the new Hong Kong National Stadium was developed by a small team including specialists who delivered stadia inclusive of the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Etihad Stadium. The new stadium will feature a retractable roof with adaptable seating for 50,000 persons over 4 tiers. The project was undertaken on behalf of the HK Government Home Affairs Bureau over a 4 month intensive period and will form the final guide for design development. The stadium has an estimated completion date for 2018. The project was fully documented in Autodesk Revit 2016
