We should assess the value of architecture according to the principle that “what is essential is invisible to the eye.” * We should silently evaluate architecture for the sum of sensations it transmits.

RESUME & CV My name is Luca, I am an architect.

I studied and worked in Italy and Portugal, where I picked up my passion for architecture. Just after I earned my degree, I started travelling. I had my really first professional expierience at TOA, a Maori-European firm in Auckland, New Zealand. During the two years at TOA, I had the opportunity to work on a large range of projects – house projects, commercials and also civics, working in different scales from small construction details all the way to large urban dimensions. At TOA, we worked in a really fast and busy environment where we juggled various projects in different stages at the same time.

LUCA DI LORENZO Date of birth: 4th August 1987 Nationality: Italian Phone: +351 91 88 63 052 Mail: lucadilorenzo.ldl@gmail.com

From “the other side of the world”, I bring with me a renovated and genuine approach which can accomodate different designs and technical skills. In a country where almost everything is new, tracking down the origins from the peenores to the ancestors, and investigating local culture is natural and inevitable within the design process. Every day at TOA, we tried to identify the elements that define what is “Pacific Culture” today, and then transform these into Design for Aoteroa (New Zealand). After this experience in Oceania I joined the Decoration Empire’s team, a Dutch fine firm based in Gouda, covering the role of Designer Architect. Practicing architecture entails challenges, which are answered by creative ideas. Creative ideas come from your ability to perceive the habitat, its story, its shapes and colours, the sensation of being surrounded by all these things. This process is an open conversation between problems and solutions.

THESIS

REABILITAÇÃO DE UM EDIFÍCIO POMBALINO

REHABILITATION OF A POMBALINO’S BUILDING LISBON & ROME - JUNE 2014

THIS IS A RENOVATION PROJECT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LOCAL BUILDING SYSTEM. THE MAIN FOCUS IS ON CREATING A POWERFUL DESIGN WHICH ENHACES THE UNIQUE ARCHITECTURAL SITE DESIGNED BY MARQUES DE POMBAL AFTER EARTHQUAKE OF 1755.

POMBALINO’S BUILDING “The first to be called is the carpenter; after then, when the cage is completed, it is called the mason who rises walls with carved stone and bricks. The reason why Portuguese decided to build in this way is that the combination of stone and wood confers eater resistance in case of earthquakes. The originally of intervention after-ethquakes is the conjugation of different levels, drawing up a plan wich started from the urban scale and comes to construction detail. A global plan that integrates urban design and architectural targeting as many production problems.”

COMPETITION

OBA ‘12 - AURORA BOREALIS ARCTIC OBSERVATORY The project includes several facilities (restaurant, sauna, planetarium and several types of rooms) organized around the observatory which is the heart of the project.. The shape of the project is a snow shovel according to the physical distribution of the areas. “A project that will help us rediscover our primitive instincts. We want to create a bond again with Mother Nature.”
