Discovery – The advantages at a glance Comfort Balance System by STEINER The STEINER Comfort Balance System guarantees comfortable handling. Softgrips Our novel Softgrips for your thumbs ideally combine comfort with a firm grip on the binoculars. The lightweight and comfortable feel eliminates pressure points, particularly if you are observing for longer periods, for example when carrying out a bird population census. At the same time, they give the Discovery excellent balance.

Fast-Close-Focus A small adjustment of the focussing wheel with your fingers is all that‘s needed to recognise details of the bird quickly and with absolute sharpness. The Discovery’s Fast- Close-Focus completely does away with the need for clumsy and timeintensive turning of the focussing wheel. With a close focus range of two metres, the Discovery provides extremely comfortable handling with perfect focussing in an unbelievably short time.

Dual Precision Setting High-Performance-Optics by STEINER

Twist-Up Eyecups The novel Twist-Up Eyecups offer optimum protection against incidental light from the side. They don‘t just block troublesome reflections; they ensure an extremely bright image. The three positions of the eyecups offer an ergonomic, a classic cylindrical and a position for people wearing glasses. If the eyecups do not fit exactly to your eyes, they can be adjusted as desired by the eyecup fine adjustment mechanism.

The perfectly adjusted distance of the exit pupil and the large diameter of the ocular lens provides you with relaxed and exact observing experiences. You gain an “into-the-image” feeling, but you also achieve the highest comfort, even when viewing with low light or peripheral interference. The large above-average objective diameter of 44 mm guarantees clear, detailed and brilliant observation.

High-Definition XP-Optics STEINER developed these remarkable optics. The optical formula is our own development using the purest index matched glass, and coatings using rare-earth formulations of titanium, fluorite and other mineral substrates. The resultis first-class light transmission, brightness and optimal contrast. The Discovery‘s roof prism system contains a specially developed dielectric mirror with a vapour-deposited phase correction coating. This high-tech phase correction gives exact resolution of detail and true colours. It also reflects up to 99% of incoming light. In addition, the dielectric mirrors prevent aging of the coating. Aging also means that there is a loss of light transmission after some time. The contours of these optics are always sharp and distinctly visible, even in poor light or at the onset of dusk.

The Discovery delivers sharper images than any other binoculars thanks to its Dual Precision Setting. No other birding binoculars allow you to focus both eyes independently of each other. It‘s done directly at the ocular, and thus a perfect image is created for each eye. The Dual Precision Setting allows massive differences in dioptre strength on each eye to be compensated for. Simply set the dioptre strength for each eye and you will always see sharply without having to readjust. Those without vision impairment simply set the control to “0”.

Distance Control System The Distance Control System guarantees fast and easy recognition of birds. Focussing takes place before you hold the Discovery up for viewing. When observing, the distance to the bird it can be read off in the binoculars at any time. If desired you can preset the distance even before you start looking at the bird. This gives you more valuable time for identification.

Unsurpassed clear vision is offered by the proven STEINER Nano-Protection®. It provides the lenses with a dirt and water resistant surface, protecting them against aggressive environmental effects. Rain, snow and moisture are eliminated from your view. Cleaning is considerably simplified and hard-to-remove dirt becomes a thing of the past. The ultra-thin hydrophobic surface treatment on the objective and ocular lenses is extremely robust and ensures that your binoculars will deliver high-contrast brilliant images across the decades.

This chemical formula is not only robust, it also gives you a very good grip, in cold, heat, sea water and the sun‘s rays. For a perfect grip, the rubber composite should be soft and non-slip, but on the other hand, the harder it is, the more durable it will be. The NBR-Longlife rubber composite is a perfect solution that makes the Discovery a pleasure to hold. It is resistant against oil, acid and bird droppings. A rubber armouring that is at the same time soft, non-slip and shockproof.

The Discovery is delivered with a soft carrying case and has a wide range of standard accessories such as a neoprene rain protection cap, objective covers and carrying straps. The comfortable carrying strap is extra-wide and has a coating that is kind to your skin. It is non-slip and padded. This special attention to comfort means that you can easily carry the binoculars for a long period. The accompanying neoprene rain protection cover is completely waterproof and prevents contamination by rain or dust. Your binoculars are therefore always at the ready and the valuable optics are protected when carrying them due to the shock-absorbing effect of the neoprene. For observation, simply unclip the fastener stud, slip off the neoprene cover and let it hang down on the other side of the carrying strap.

Extreme ruggedness Nitrogen pressure system using 2-way-valve technology Fogging up or the formation of condensation inside the binoculars is totally prevented by this high-tech solution. Even temperature variations between -40° and +80°C do not have any adverse effects on the functionality of STEINER nitrogenfilled binoculars. The unique 2-way-valve technology makes inspection possible even after a number of years. Your binoculars are always ready for action even under the most extreme conditions. Optical quality and precision are maintained for decades. The Discovery range is waterproof even up to a depth of five metres. This is made possible by special sealing technologies. No dust, no dirt and no humidity can penetrate into the binoculars.

Under the outer armouring hides a high-tech, lightweight, high pressure, cast magnesium alloy chassis that delivers unrivalled stability. This material makes the housing even more shockproof and thus much more rugged. At the same time it keeps the weight down and enables compact construction. STEINER’s cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund and the UNESCO Schutzstation Wattenmeer Project in Northern Germany have lead to the extensive use of “Green” ECOfriendly glass for the manufacturing of lenses and prisms and hypoallergenic non-chloride rubber for the new SkyHawkPro range. The “Green” glass is manufactured without the use of arsenic, antimony, lead and other toxic heavy metals in the refining process. The successful development of Green glass falls into line with STEINER’s continued efforts to seek environmentally friendly solutions for the components of its binoculars. The new ECO glass has an increased index of refraction resulting in a higher degree of resolution, contrast and true-to-life colours making observation and identification of birds as easy as child’s play.

STEINER`s uniquely designed Eyecups with their special ergonomic side flaps reduce stray light as well as the effects of windy conditions. They ensure the enjoyment of observation in the severest conditions.

The STEINER SkyHawkPro range of binoculars offer first-class performance for all types of nature and bird observation. It has never been as easy for Birdwatchers to locate, observe and identify as it is now with the new SkyHawk Pro optics.

The side flaps can be folded down and are made of soft silicon that hugs the contours of the eye and is hypoallergenic. The Twist-up Eyecups with four optional settings allow the wearers of glasses to easily find their ideal position thus enabling them to enjoy the full field of view. The light weight as well as comfortable thumb grips on the underside of the barrels together with a unique design allow for an optimal weight distribution and balance, enabling the Twitcher to observe birds for extended periods without fatigue. The non-slip surface of the rubber armouring protects the binoculars and ensures a firm grip even with wet or cold hands.

A wide field of view for locating the desired object quickly and the fast close focus make every observation in the field an outstanding experience. This is due to the High-Contrast-Optics for which only the highest quality “ECO-Glass” is used together with high-tech multi-layer coatings employing various metals and rare minerals.

The SkyHawkPro range guarantees the highest optical performance and natural colour reproduction even in the poorest of lighting conditions.

The ClicLoc System has been developed for fast detachment and re-attachment of the carrying strap and the objective covers. The unique STEINER neoprene rain protection cap can be removed without making any noise, folded up very small and fits into any pocket. If it should become necessary to use a tripod a corresponding thread has been integrated into the body of the binoculars to accommodate the appropriate fastening device.

The comfortable thumb grips prevent you from feeling tired and also help towards a perfect balance. With the SkyHawkPro you will always have a firm grip on things whether it is hot, cold or wet.

The unique STEINER Fast-Close-Focus with its extra large focusing wheel focuses precisely even when the Birder is wearing gloves. It guarantees exact, smooth and fast focusing down to 2 meters.

The entire series of SkyHawkPro models has been designed using a new, fibre-glass reinforced high-performance polymer material.
