InDesign Magazine

Click button to view InDesign Magazine in the App Store.

• URL-based hyperlinks and buttons automatically

become interactive when the issue is bundled. You can use either hyperlinks or buttons to jump to web pages, send email, and more.

• To jump to another article, create a URL-based

button or hyperlink in which you replace “http://” with “navto://.” Example: “navto://article_name.”

Slideshow

• Tap the thumbnails to view different slides, click the navigation buttons, or swipe the main slideshow image to move through the slideshow.

• To create a slideshow, insert the slide images, arrange them in

a stack, and use the Object States panel to create a multi-state object.

• We created thumbnail images for each slide, and used the

Buttons panel to convert them to buttons. Each thumbnail uses the Go to State action, and the arrow buttons use Go to Next State and Go to Previous State. We also enabled swiping.

Image Sequence Overlay

• Tap the image once to rotate it. Tap and swipe in either direction to rotate it manually. Double-tap to reset it.

• An image sequence (previously called “360 Viewer”) overlay

consists of a series of images, with each image representing a slightly different rotation angle. Use the Overlay Creator panel to point to the source folder and change settings.

• Use Photoshop Extended, QuickTime Pro, or a 3D model application to create the set of images for a 360-degree view.

Audio

Audio file with progressive controller skin

• Tap the icon to play the audio. Tap again to pause.

• Notice that the status bar progresses

while the audio plays. We created a set of “_play” and “_pause” png files that each represent the current status of the audio icon.

• These .png files are not necessary. You

can create a simple audio overlay that doesn’t have a status bar skin.

• Full Screen Video

Panorama • Tap the image above

to view the panorama. Swipe to rotate. Pinch to zoom in and out.

• We used an

application called Pano2VR to convert a panorama image into the six source files required to create the panorama.

• We imposed a grid

over the images for testing purposes.

• We set the top tilt limit to -80 and the bottom tilt limit to 80.

Web Content

• We used the Overlay Creator to export

a 600x500-pixel overlay of the InDesign Secrets Twitter website. We turned on Auto Start so that the web view begins loading as soon as the page is turned to.

• Your iPad must be connected to the internet to view the website.

Pan & Zoom

• Tap and drag this cyclist to pan. Pinch to zoom in and out.

• We placed a 1024x1024-pixel image and

cropped it with a 400x400-pixel frame. Then we selected the Pan and Zoom option in the Overlay Creator panel.

Scrollable Content Ingredients

Directions

• Swipe to scroll vertically within the frames. • To create this effect, create a layer called “Scrollable Content.” For each overlay, create two objects—a container frame and a content frame. These frames should be the same width.

• Add the content frame to the Scrollable Content layer, and give the content frame and container frame the same name, such as “Ingredients” and “Directions.”

• The content frame can actually be multiple frames.

Simply group them and name the group in the Layers panel.
