CONCEPT 1 : The Foundations of society. Elements upon which socielty develops and progresses. Basis of today´s society. Under this concept the video is projected on the floor, making the viewer stand on top of the image. CONCEPT 2 : The reflection of the individual. The person as a reflection of society. Under this idea the inside walls of the installation are covered with mirrors. The reflection of the spectator and of the image are infinitely multiplied, generating the feeling of motion in the entire space.
All cultures and societies physically develop in a territory, on a physical surface. Yet, in addition to that physical foundation, societies grow on the basis of ideologies, economies, technologies, and media. These (and others basis) are what truly support the entire weight and structure of social machinery. They are also accepted as solid foundations for an individual’s creation of a “lifestyle” and future. This sense of stability furthermore grants sufficient firmness so that no one bothers to question the way in which society grows and progresses. In this way, individualism, violence, consumerism, etc. are conceived of as just social phenomena and not as reflections and expressions of the individual. Bearing in mind this purpose and starting from these conceptions, the video will be projected downwards, from the ceiling to the floor, making the viewer stand on top of the image. The entire space is designed so that the person’s reflection and the image, which acts as the floor, are infinitely multiplied due to the mirrors placed on the sides of the installation. Since the image will have a rather large field of depth, the viewer, who is standing on the projection, will feel as if he is standing on top of nothing, and the mvement of the image will turn into the feeling of motion in the entire space

The “BASE” video installation plays with the viewer’s perception of space, its dimensions and limits. It will not just be the physical space where he stands, but also of his condition as a reflection of society.
